Chapter 220: A Meeting Between Paragons

"Damn it! I was forced to kneel in front of that bastard!" the sound of glass shattering echoed from one of the church rooms.

"Calm down, Evern. Do you want him to hear you?" Not far from him, two men were sitting across from each other with a table between them.

"Velmiran, do you really think I care? If he hears, let him hear. What's he gonna do about it?" Paragon Evern said angrily, then stood and walked past them.

"So what do we do now? Are we really going to let that bastard lead the faith?"

"What else can you do? The Prophet officially chose him. Plus, because of that story the Prophet told, the people now fully accept that kid," Velmiran growled.

It wasn't like he was happy about it — but was there really anything else they could do?

On top of that, the kid said a few words right after the Prophet left and managed to win over everyone's hearts. It's a known fact that most followers of the Eternal Faith have always wanted to expand their religion.

But the Prophet always stopped them from doing so. Still, the moment that kid became leader, he said they would do it — and managed to win over the crowd.

"If he had picked one of the three of us, it would've been fine. If he had picked no one, even better — then we could've decided among ourselves," Evern let out a frustrated sigh.

He had made so many plans for today. He had spent his whole life working toward this day.

And yet, some random kid who appeared out of nowhere just stole all their achievements.

"What do you think, Brother Abraham?" Velmiran looked at the middle-aged man sitting across from him.

"You're all overreacting. The Prophet made his decision, and that kid is now our leader," the middle-aged man — Abraham — said with a smile.

"So we're just going to sit and watch?" Evern growled.

"Of course not. That kid is still just a young and inexperienced boy. How can he lead an entire faith? In the end, we'll have to step in and help him," Abraham said calmly.

His words sounded logical, but both Velmiran and Evern understood the meaning behind them.

The boy can't run the faith on his own. When the time comes, they'll offer their "help" and slowly take control of the power structure.

Smiles appeared on their faces. Right... why should they worry? Sooner or later, the power would end up in their hands. They just needed to be patient.

"Haha, Brother Abraham is right. How could I not see something so simple?" Evern laughed, though he wasn't surprised.

Among the three of them, Abraham was known for being the smartest. Thankfully, he had no ambition to lead — otherwise, only the great god would know what disasters might've happened.

"Well, now that things have calmed down a bit, we should talk about something even more important. The incident from yesterday," Velmiran said as he noticed the mood settle.

"The slaughter from yesterday? What about it?" Abraham asked.

"Isn't it obvious? What happened yesterday severely damaged the credibility of us Paragons. A lot of people are asking why none of us personally intervened out of fear," Velmiran sighed.

"I looked into it myself, but no one knows anything. Even the ones we captured died strangely in prison," Evern said with a scowl.

"The attack came from your own followers, and they didn't just target enemies — they also attacked neutrals. We were lucky it got stopped. Otherwise, the entire structure of the faith might've collapsed," Velmiran added with a deeper sigh.

It might've sounded exaggerated, but things weren't as simple as they looked. If the situation hadn't been dealt with in time, the news would've spread across the world — and it would've ruined the reputation of their entire religion.

"What's worse is that I told the Prophet about it, and even he did nothing."

They all exchanged bitter looks. Sadly, they had grown used to it. The Prophet had long stopped involving himself in worldly matters.

"Who stopped the disaster yesterday?" Abraham suddenly asked.

"Who do you think? Of course, our new leader," Evern replied sarcastically.

The room went silent for a moment until all three of them sighed at once. It wouldn't be long before everyone found out that it was the new leader who stopped yesterday's disaster.

And once they did, people would become even more loyal and devoted to him — and that was definitely not good news for them.

They could try to block the spread of the news, but for how long? There were too many witnesses, and the truth would come out eventually.

"We can't let his reputation spread in a positive light. We'll need to mix in some rumors," Velmiran said, and the other two simply nodded.

They spent a while discussing ways to limit the new leader's influence until...

"If you'll excuse me, I have some things to take care of," Abraham stood up and looked at the other two.

But a faint red glow flickered in his eyes. Evern didn't notice — but Velmiran did, and he silently nodded.

Then Abraham left, leaving the two of them in silence.

At that moment, in the highest floor of the church, Evangelin was showing Daniel to his new residence.

"This is your new room. It used to belong to my master... and now, it's yours."

"Thank you," Daniel nodded. They stopped in front of the door to the room.

"You're welcome... and also, I wanted to congratulate you again for becoming the leader of the Eternal Faith," Evangelin said with a respectful bow.

"There's no need for all the formality. Just treat me the way you did before. Otherwise, I'm going to go crazy from loneliness here."

"Ah... well, if that's what you want," a sweet smile appeared on Evangelin's face.

"Still, you don't seem that shocked I became the leader."

"Well, Master told me a bit about the revelation he had. So no, I'm not too surprised."

Daniel nodded, and after a brief goodbye, Evangelin left. She told him to rest for now — because things would get very busy soon.

Without wasting time, Daniel entered his new room. As he crossed the threshold, he felt like he had stepped into a different dimension.

"wtf?" He looked around in shock. This place didn't look like a bedroom at all.
