Chapter 195: Second Disciple?
"She should be around here somewhere."
The white-cloaked figure began searching the room as soon as she entered. It was clear she had come looking for something.
However, no matter how much she searched, she couldn't find what she was looking for.
"Could they have realized something and destroyed everything?"
"But how? They only arrived today. How could they have noticed me already?"
She furrowed her brows and started reasoning with herself.
Logically, the pilgrims had just arrived a few hours ago. There shouldn't have been enough time for them to detect anything.
Even if they had spies within the church, how could they have learned about the situation in just a few hours? Besides, she had kept everyone under watch to identify potential spies.
"Ughh, this is giving me a headache! Why doesn't Master do this himself!" she grumbled and turned to leave
.
Only to suddenly see a handsome face with white hair standing behind her.
"Ahh—who are you?!" she yelped, falling on her butt in shock.
Daniel quickly covered her mouth to silence her and frowned.
Was this girl stupid? She sneaked in quietly only to scream out loud? Also, the voice—clearly a woman's.
He looked at her body shape... yep, definitely a girl.
But why would a girl sneak into an inn like this?
And seriously, why was she wearing white? At night? While trying to be stealthy? Was she dumb?
Once he was sure she had calmed down, he slowly removed his hand. Luckily, she didn't scream again. In fact, she seemed kind of captivated by his face?
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" Daniel asked plainly.
"Uhm, I'm not really anyone special," the white-cloaked girl replied, a little embarrassed.
Daniel released a bit of his aura, and she immediately shivered.
"You better answer my questions properly, or this won't go well for you."
She quickly nodded several times in understanding. Fortunately, she seemed to realize that Daniel wasn't joking.
"Who are you? Why are you here?" She hesitated at first, but after a moment of internal struggle and looking into his face, she slowly removed her mask.
Daniel was momentarily stunned.
A beautiful girl with golden eyes like his, and long flowing white hair.
Her face was so beautiful, the only word that came to mind was "celestial."
But more importantly, her face felt very familiar—like he'd seen it somewhere before.
Where? He strained his memory, trying to recall.
'That woman… the one I saw in the Broken Valley… They look really similar, but the aura, atmosphere, and even the eye and hair colors are different,' Daniel frowned.
Could he be mistaken?
"I'm the second disciple of the great Prophet Zirham. My name is Evangelin."
"Second disciple? So the Prophet took on another student… But why would the disciple of the mighty Prophet be sneaking into an inn?" Daniel said with a hint of sarcasm.
At the same time, he mentally contacted Malrik to confirm her identity.
'I never heard of the master taking on another disciple after me. But I'm certain—she really is Master's disciple. Those eyes prove it. They carry the blessing of the great god Horvand.'
'Then why don't you have them?'
'I lost the blessing after leaving the church. Eternal life stayed with me like a curse.'
Daniel nodded and returned his attention to Evangelin.
"Well, I came here to find traces of people planning to sabotage the city or my master's sermon. But I didn't find anything," she said with a disappointed tone.
"I didn't expect you to answer so easily… more importantly, if you know about them, then your master must know too. Why isn't he doing anything?"
"Well, actually, he's the one who told me about them… and I had the same thought. Why doesn't he do something himself?
But he just said everything has already been decided, and that it's not his place to interfere.
He also said that a white-haired man would stop everything," Evangelin replied, glancing at Daniel's hair.
That was the only reason she hadn't run away or knocked him out yet.
She was uncertain whether this was the man her master had mentioned.
But the more she looked at him, the more convinced she became that it really was him.
"Your master knows about me?" Daniel frowned. From what she said, it seemed the Prophet was fully aware of his presence.
But how? Even though this layer likely reflected a real past, it was still just a simulation.
Still, Zirham seemed to know about him? He doubted it, but then recalled the power of that woman in the Broken Valley.
'The Prophet is probably a demigod. I don't know how powerful they are, but maybe they really can see across time, space, and countless dimensions.'
"So, you're the one Master talked about? Will you help me stop the saboteurs?" Evangelin asked.
"Sigh… Come on, let's go to my room," Daniel said as he flew her back with him.
"Now tell me everything you know about the saboteurs," he said, sitting down and watching the beautiful girl in front of him.
"I don't know much myself. My master just told me that this time the sermon won't go smoothly and that there will be chaos.
A lot of people will try to sabotage it, but a man with white hair will stop them."
"Even though he said not to worry, I couldn't just sit around doing nothing. That's why I ordered surveillance over all church members, had the city's security tightened, and made sure every single pilgrim was inspected before entering the city."
"I found some evidence suggesting that the saboteurs are among the pilgrims and that there may be spies inside the church.
Unfortunately, I don't have enough proof to justify arresting anyone—especially not when Master himself is turning a blind eye," Evangelin sighed and then stopped.
Her eyes were fixed on Daniel, who was deep in thought.
"If someone wanted to sabotage something, when would be the best time to do it?" Daniel asked.
His first guess was during the sermon, but he quickly dismissed that.
The Prophet was known as one of the most powerful beings in the world—no one would be foolish enough to act in front of him.
Most likely, anything would happe between today (when the pilgrims arrived) and the day after tomorrow (the sermon).
Meaning tomorrow
Now the real question was: What events are scheduled to take place tomorrow?
