As lines of information flashed across Azu's vision, a smirk played on his lips.
The Marvel Universe was a treasure trove, just like the DC Universe.
Though the current timeline revolved around the Avengers storyline, the fact that he could act freely opened up countless possibilities.
For instance:
He could head to Wakanda to obtain a vibranium suit—and perhaps stir up enough trouble to have vibranium appear in the system's shop.
When the Chitauri army invaded Earth, he could slip through their portal to wreak havoc on their home base, earning skill proficiency in the process.
He could spar with heroes like Thor or Hulk to both hone his abilities and potentially unlock their equipment in the system shop.
And, of course, there was Loki—armed with the Tesseract and the Mind Stone-embedded scepter. These were powerful artifacts worth snatching.
But first...
Azu glanced at the girl beside him.
"I need to get her somewhere safe," he muttered. With a major battle about to erupt in New York, leaving Lin Aida here was not an option.
"Xiao Lin, let's head to a hotel for now," Azu suggested.
No sooner had he spoken than the air before him shimmered, transforming into a constantly shifting mirror. In it, countless reflections of himself and Lin Aida flickered.
Azu's expression turned serious.
Mirror Dimension?
"What's wrong, Mr. John?" Lin Aida asked, sensing his unease.
Azu's face grew tense as he slowly turned to face their unseen adversary. "We've got trouble."
"Trouble? What kind? If it's the police asking for ID, I can handle it," Lin Aida said confidently, entirely unaware of the magnitude of the threat they were facing.
A hooded figure in yellow robes materialized before them. The figure's face was obscured, but with a simple flick of the wrist, the surroundings distorted. The world stretched and twisted like a kaleidoscope.
Azu's suspicions were confirmed.
The Ancient One.
The Sorcerer Supreme. The protector of Earth from threats across the multiverse.
Among Marvel's many powerhouses, the Ancient One was someone Azu would rather avoid confronting. Sorcerers were always tricky to deal with.
Without hesitation, he placed a hand gently on Lin Aida's shoulder. A subtle pulse of energy sent her into a deep sleep.
Lifting her, Azu placed her carefully on the ground and retrieved the Cloak of Justice from his inventory. Draping the crimson cloak over her, he activated its Bio-Force Field to ensure her safety.
Only then did he address the yellow-robed figure.
"What's the meaning of this, Ancient One?"
The hooded figure tilted her head slightly before pulling back the hood to reveal a bald woman's serene face.
"You know who I am?" she asked, a faint smile gracing her lips.
Azu shrugged. "Of course. In my world, you're quite the prominent figure."
"Is that so?" she replied. "Then you'll understand when I say this: I must ask you to leave."
"Leave?" Azu raised an eyebrow. "Unfortunately, that's not an option right now."
"In that case," the Ancient One said calmly, folding her hands behind her back, "you'll need to remain here in the Mirror Dimension until you're ready to return to your own universe. How does that sound?"
Azu chuckled, the temperature around him rising sharply. The air shimmered, and the light turned a fiery orange as the bio-energy field enveloping him intensified.
The plaid shirt and jeans he wore burned away, revealing the sleek, black battle suit beneath.
"I don't think I need to follow your orders, Sorcerer," Azu said, his voice firm. "I don't like being confined. So why don't you let us go? It'll save us both a lot of trouble."
The Ancient One's smile faded slightly as she observed him. "You seem well-informed—too well-informed, even. You're aware of the Sanctum here in New York, aren't you?"
"I know a lot of things," Azu replied nonchalantly. "For example, if you're injured, who will protect the Sanctum from the chaos that's about to erupt?"
The Ancient One's eyes narrowed. "It seems my instincts were correct. You're no ordinary visitor. The aura around you reeks of malevolence. I cannot allow someone like you to roam freely in this universe."
As she spoke, her hands moved in a circular motion, weaving glowing golden patterns into the air. The world around them spun and twisted again, buildings shifting like pieces in a puzzle.
Azu remained unbothered, floating calmly in midair while the distorted environment bent and churned.
Lin Aida, shielded by the cloak, slid gently onto the side of a building now transformed into a smooth wall. The Ancient One gestured, and a window opened below her. Lin Aida slipped through, landing inside safely before the window sealed itself.
Azu glanced at the Ancient One. "Don't hurt her," he warned.
"She's innocent," the sorcerer replied, her tone reassuring. "Unlike you."
Her gaze turned cold as she raised her arms. Yellow light coalesced into a radiant disk—the Rings of Raggadorr—a powerful spell she wielded with ease.
With a sharp motion, she hurled one of the glowing rings toward Azu like a blazing discus.
