Chapter 119: Chapter 119: A Power That Breaks Common Sense

She froze.

Kasumigaoka Utaha was completely stunned, her face full of disbelief. Even though the person in front of her was covered from head to toe, she still recognized her. "You… Eri…"

"Shh." The girl gently pressed a finger against Utaha's lips. "My contractor, revealing the answer too early just ruins the fun."

Contractor?

Utaha's eyes widened. She stared at Eriri with shock. What the hell? Contractor? What's that supposed to mean?

Buzz.

Right then, another wind blade shot straight at them.

"Watch out!" Kasumigaoka and Kato shouted at the same time.

But Eriri didn't dodge. She just turned slightly, raised her pale hand, and slowly opened her palm toward the incoming blade.

Snap.

The blue wind blade broke down into clean particles of wind and vanished into the air.

Stunned.

Both Utaha Kasumigaoka and Megumi Kato were frozen in place, mouths wide open as if someone could stuff a large duck egg in.

They weren't the only ones with that expression. Even General Okada Isamu and his aide back at the Fourth Combat Division had the same look on their faces. These two top military officials stared at the screen like they were seeing a monster.

The wind blade that sliced through a tank's armor looked as weak as a cracker in this cloaked figure's hand. Was this really power a human could have?

"Naughty bug." Eriri's lips curled into a small smirk under the cloak. She spoke in a deliberately raspy voice. "You need to be punished." As soon as the words left her mouth, she suddenly vanished.

Whoosh.

A flash of silver.

The beetle's antlers flew into the air, dark green liquid spraying everywhere.

HSSSS!

The giant stag beetle let out a sharp, painful screech, and the surrounding swarm of bugs dove straight toward Eriri like they'd gone mad.

"Tch. Trying to gang up on me? How stupid." Clicking her tongue, Eriri raised her right hand toward the swarm and whispered, "Hadō 63: Raikōhō."

BOOM.

A deafening explosion erupted, golden lightning filling the sky.

Moments later, the light faded, and the smoke cleared.

In front of Eriri, the ground now held a massive crater more than twenty meters wide.

Bug corpses were scattered everywhere—some missing heads, others cut in half, and some reduced to broken limbs that barely showed what they used to be.

"They didn't run from me?" Eriri turned her head to see the huge stag beetle staring at her with eyes full of determination and rage—almost human emotions. "So you want a fight to the death, huh? Impressive."

Hsss...

It hissed in response.

Head down, the beetle charged at Eriri like a speeding train. The ground shook with loud rumbles, and clouds of dust rose behind it.

"What a shame." Eriri sighed. She twirled the hilt of her sword and brought it down in a single, clean strike. "I was going to let you live."

Splat.

The silver-white blade cut straight through the beetle, slicing it clean down the middle. Dark green fluid sprayed out, and both halves crashed to the ground.

But that wasn't the end.

The force of the strike didn't stop there—it continued on and smashed right into the indoor gym behind the beetle. With a loud crash, the whole building collapsed.

Shock. Awe.

Utaha Kasumigaoka, Megumi Kato, and even Okada Isamu and his aide, still staring at the screen, looked like someone had grabbed their throats. They stood there, stunned, unable to look away.

After a long moment.

Okada Isamu slowly came back to his senses and asked quietly, "Ryohei. Based on our Special Affairs Division's classification system for ability users, what level would you say this one is?"

"At least Level 7," the aide replied after a deep breath, his face serious. "Maybe even Level 8."

"Have we ever seen a Level 7 before?" Okada asked again.

"No, sir!" the aide answered without hesitation. "Even the Deep Sea Demon in the Pacific was only rated Level 6."

The so-called Deep Sea Demon was actually a giant octopus over a hundred meters long. It once appeared at Yokosuka Port and dragged a U.S. Navy destroyer into the deep ocean.

That incident was completely covered up, so the general public never knew. But top military officials like them knew all about it—and had even watched the footage.

"So this person might be stronger than the Deep Sea Demon?" Okada narrowed his eyes, deep in thought. "Can humans really reach that level? And everything about this person—the way they speak, the way they act—it's all so old-fashioned. And what's with that 'contractor' thing?"

"Huh... so this is what mankind can make these days?"

A raspy voice suddenly rang out, interrupting Okada Isamu's thoughts. He looked up and saw a cloaked figure on the screen holding a drone, examining it as if admiring a piece of art.

There was a moment of silence.

Okada Isamu slowly spoke, his tone slightly respectful. "Who exactly are you?"

"I was awakened by these two contractors. You may call me the God of Death," the cloaked figure said hoarsely, as if already aware that this human-made device could transmit sound.

God of Death?

Okada Isamu and his adjutant glanced at each other in confusion. Was this person being arrogant, or did that name have some deeper meaning? And what did he mean by "awakened"? Could there have been others like him a long time ago?

The two high-ranking officers were completely lost in thought, and Kasumigaoka Utaha and Megumi Kato looked just as confused.

God of Death? What is even happening anymore? What kind of show is Eriri putting on this time?
