Chapter 9: 9. The Aria VI
Siegfried closed his eyes and felt the unprecedented power coursing through his body. He didn't know what came over him but he remembered consuming the heart of Fafnir.
But he didn't feel any sense of excitement from the immense power coursing through his veins. He just felt empty, he went back to the kingdom and became the hero who slew the evil dragon and brought peace to the lands.
Then years passed by as he lived his mundane life until he came upon a prophecy by chance, a prophecy that showed him his tragedy if he was to save a maiden from her curse.
And this maiden was his supposed other half. But if they stayed together their fates would be doomed.
If he followed the prophecy then what awaited was imminent doom.
Although he was a bit shaken knowing about his demise he still couldn't sit still knowing somebody out there was in need of his help.
Since their fates were tied together he would try to help her.
If there were no feelings involved then he wouldn't have to worry about the prophecy. He would just save the woman and help her break her curse.
After that, he would not be involved thus removing the probability of harm befalling both of them.
Siegfried was very confident in his plan, and he prided his self-control. He didn't believe he would fall for someone he clearly knew he was not supposed to have feelings for.
Siegfried may be many things but he certainly was not an indecisive person....
.....
Siegfried faced many adversities on his journey to Mt Hinderfjall but with the help of his trusty companion Grani, he was able to overcome them all.
The summit of Mt Hinderfjall an inhuman devil cave was covered with scorching flames which deterred anyone from approaching them but this did not deter Siegfried as he bravely rode through the flames to reach her.
Siegfried was stunned when he first laid eyes on her, his battled-hardened heart and firm resolve were nothing in front of the emotion he was feeling.
He only knew one thing and that was that he had failed....
...
Brynhildr gazed at the man in front of her who had a stoic face and his eyes were clear and they betrayed no emotions, she couldn't help but feel a fluttery feeling in her chest.
She didn't know why she felt a sense of sadness and loss when she faced those eyes, she felt like there was a lump stuck in her throat as she was unable to say anything.
She wanted to say a lot of things but she was unable to, but after a lot of hesitation and thinking she voiced a single word that clearly conveyed her current thoughts.
"Why?" her voice was barely a whisper and her voice was melodious and gentle to the point that anyone listening to it would find it soothing but her voice contained a hint of sadness which was unnoticed by Siegfried.
Siegfried who heard her question was a bit stunned but he quickly understood she was asking him why he tried to save her even when he knew about the prophecy.
He knew that if both of them were to meet each other then only ruin awaited them, he knew all of this but he still decided to save her as his entire soul would be in agitation if he just let her suffer.
So after a few moments of silence, Siegfried gazed at Brynhildr and replied indifferently. "My only purpose is to save you from the curse, I did what had to be done according to my heart. I have never considered feelings or love in this matter as my purpose from the beginning was to resist the prophecy "
Brynhildr who heard his answer couldn't help but feel her heart clench a bit, although she felt that she should be happy that she would not be bringing ruin to him she still felt sad. She tried to say something in response but in the end, stayed quiet.
Siegfried didn't know why but when he saw the smile on her face which seemed to radiate sadness he felt as if his heart was being squeezed by something.
Siegfried sighed bitterly in his heart, he felt as if the resolve and conviction that he had at the start of his journey had all but crumbled when he he first laid eyes on her.
Siegfried never believed in love, much less love at first sight.
But a single glance at her was enough for his heart to start beating faster than ever.
He felt... No! he knew...that a single smile from her was enough to satisfy his turbulent heart.
To make her happy he would do anything.
Siegfried who was made aware of his inner thoughts felt it was more urgent for him to leave, as it was now much more important for him to leave even if it pained him because he didn't wish to bring harm to her.
If the prophecy were true then him following the feelings in his heart would only lead to her ruin which he never wanted to happen.
Siegfried understood that he had fallen in love with someone whom he shouldn't have and that made him feel a painful feeling in his heart once again.
He didn't know why was fate so cruel to him...
