Arcane: Twin Cities Mechanic

Chapter 530: CHAPTER 530 - The Fall of the Emperor

The sudden appearance of a colossal magic-metal automaton immediately drew the attention of everyone present. The gods, the Winged Sisters, and Atreus all turned their gazes in unison toward Li Lin.

[Detected changes in mental space energy fluctuations. This unnamed magitech automaton possesses strength on par with the Archmagister Nasus at his peak.]

Li Lin's brow arched as the anti-gravity device lifted him into the air. With "Data Mind" activated, Mordekaiser's mech data unfolded in his mind.

[War Fortress Magitech Automaton (Epic): Constructed using materials from the physical realm, spiritual realm, and the realm of the dead, powered by a soul furnace core, capable of channeling the magic of all Mitna Rachnun.]

"So, this is your trump card?" Li Lin murmured.

At his command, the armor plating on the Overlord Dragon God in the sky opened up, and the tank-form Overlord Zero swiftly transformed into its humanoid mode, drawing forth a massive kinetic battle axe from its back.

To deal with Mordekaiser, even in the dominion he had usurped, there was no need for Li Lin to resort to a World Rune.

The mental interface between the mech and Li Lin's combat suit synchronized, granting him control over Overlord Zero. It descended softly to the ground, not stirring even a speck of dust.

The ashen mist, sharp as a blade, brushed against Overlord Zero's metallic exterior but failed to scratch its coating. Once the energy barrier enveloped its body, all necromantic magic was completely shut out.

Realizing Li Lin was the one piloting these mechanical forces, Mordekaiser finally understood the mastermind behind the mechanical army wasn't a celestial warrior.

"Who are you?! A mere mortal with creativity rivaling Nezuk?"

Mordekaiser's knowledge spanned ancient and modern times. In his first life as Sahn-Uzol, his only ambition was to secure a place among the divine pantheon in Mitna Rachnun's Hall of Bones after death. However, upon discovering that the realm of the dead held neither gods nor ossuaries, and through sheer willpower resisting the dissipation of his soul, he began studying every means to establish his own domain.

The language of the dead was all-encompassing. Through the ancient tongue of Ochnun, he unearthed secrets from countless worlds.

After his resurrection as Mordekaiser, he nearly conquered all of Valoran. From the treasures he amassed, he gained even greater knowledge. The War Fortress Magitech Automaton was a creation modeled after the legendary single-stone fortress crafted by Nezuk, an ascended being from Ixtal who waged tireless battles against the Void.

Of course, a creation this powerful required a massive energy source. Unlike Li Lin, Mordekaiser lacked a technological power core or an army of ascended elementalists and tens of thousands of gifted mages to provide energy.

Thus, his War Fortress Magitech Automaton could only achieve maximum efficacy within the realm of the dead—his trump card to deter any deities wielding dominion over death.

"A traitor daring to compete with Li Lin's ingenuity? Even given another century, it wouldn't be enough," scoffed Aatrox before Li Lin could respond.

Mordekaiser was taken aback to see the ascended willingly supporting a mortal, even stepping aside to let him take the battlefield.

"I don't know what's transpired in these past centuries—how the once-sealed Darkin returned, or how a genius like you appeared—but…" His chuckle grew into a booming laugh. "What an intriguing soul! If I enslaved it, all your knowledge would be mine!"

"That line? The Void Empress once said the same," Li Lin retorted with a smirk. "Yet here I stand, perfectly intact, while she's been utterly obliterated into nothingness."

A shadow flickered across Mordekaiser's heart. He couldn't help but feel a twinge of doubt.

He understood the Void to some extent. Shurima's downfall, while caused by the betrayal of its final emperor's subjects, was ultimately due to the devastating war with the Void, which wiped out much of the ascended empire's living forces.

Even in the Freljord, where the Void Watchers descended, only to be sealed by Lissandra, one of the Three Sisters of Ice—Mordekaiser had heard of these events.

But this "Void Empress" Li Lin spoke of… What could it be?

Pressed for time, Mordekaiser could no longer afford to ponder. The Overlord Zero, stationed kilometers away, had already unveiled its chest armor, with the Axis Cannon—its Matter Disintegration Beam—charging.

"Ha!" Mordekaiser roared in fury, forcing the enormous automaton to draw from the soul furnace. Countless tormented souls wailed in agony as they fueled the machine.

As a searing disintegration beam hurtled toward him, Mordekaiser frantically manipulated sand and scattered scrap metal to form a massive shield, bolstering it with defensive magic to block Overlord Zero's full-force strike.

But much of the material he controlled was metallic. With just a thought, Li Lin rendered most of Mordekaiser's defenses useless.

Like a gear locking up in a precision mechanism, the automaton's massive arms froze mid-motion, unable to respond no matter how hard Mordekaiser tried.

Overlord Zero gripped the battle axe with both hands, raised it high, and hurled it with explosive force. The axe, bolstered by an overclocked engine, spun toward the War Fortress Automaton in an instant, cleaving directly into its core region.

The massive construct collapsed under the impact. Without hesitation, Li Lin issued a command to the AI:

"Mechanical army, focus all firepower on Mordekaiser."

No margin for error. Li Lin wouldn't leave Mordekaiser any chance for a comeback.

[Mechanical army ready. Fire!]

In a symphony of destruction, drones, aerial fighters, combat engineers, Warlord Kog'Maw, Warlord Urgot, Overlord Dragon God, and Warlord Xerath unleashed a synchronized barrage, blanketing Mordekaiser's location in a relentless hail of firepower.

Gamma beams burned hotter than the magic of ascended beings. Amplified by arcane control devices, even Xerath exceeded his usual limits.

Though satellite support was unavailable in the spiritual domain, within mere seconds, the area where Mordekaiser's automaton had stood was reduced to a bottomless crater.

After all, Mordekaiser, even in life, had been merely a mortal soul. Despite mastering forbidden powers across multiple realms after death, his threats remained confined to the realm of mortals.

Had Li Lin chosen not to intervene, the celestial warriors alone could have quelled Mordekaiser's rebellion in the underworld. It would've simply taken more time.

Emerging from the mech's cockpit, Li Lin ascended into the air, overlooking the abyss where Mordekaiser had disappeared. A system notification echoed in his mind:

[You have slain the Iron Revenant, Mordekaiser (Hero), earning 120,000 Blue Essence, 12,000 Orange Essence, and 100 Skill Points.]

[Congratulations! For defeating one of Runeterra's major threats, you have obtained a legendary-quality blueprint: The Emperor's Throne.]
