Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies

"I am not going to take them in," Bai Meiyue refused outright. She didn't want to be harsh on these survivors but she really couldn't take so many people, especially not from Fox. The man was too sly. It terrified her.

Fox's smile faltered a little but he soon hitched it back. He lowered his head and said to Bai Meiyue, "I know that you are suspicious but I assure you that I came here of my free will. Neither Chief Lin nor Chief Yu sent me here. I came to look for you on my own. I swear."

"Chief Lin?" Bai Meiyue arched one of her willow-like eyebrows and questioned, "Since when did your safe base have two chiefs in charge? Wasn't it just Yu Miaomiao?"

Upon hearing her question, Fox sighed. He raised his hand and ran his fingers through his hair before saying to Bai Meiyue, "It's not that I don't want to tell you everything but the situation is really complicated, Miss Bai. I don't know what happened but a few days ago Chief Lin suddenly turned his back on Chief Yu. It caused the safe base to break into two halves."

"The Special Team has been under Chief Yu's control till now but this morning, Bai Feng and his team successfully moved the family members of the ability users who were taken as hostages. With these hostages gone, I am certain that the power dynamics of the safe base are going to tilt to another side very soon. With so many things happening, I don't think that the safe base is safe anymore."

This was one of the reasons he came to look for Bai Meiyue in such a hurry. He knew that his relationship with Bai Meiyue was not good and there was a good chance that the woman might not even like him trespassing in her sanctuary like this but did he have a choice? He didn't! That ancestor was with him and if something happened to her, his good brother would certainly skin him alive. He couldn't allow that woman to get caught in the power struggle.

It was bad enough that the woman refused to move when he asked her to; it took quite a while to convince her and if Bai Meiyue refused to take them in, then it would definitely cause some trouble—no, a lot of trouble for him.

Of course he had known that Bai Meiyue might refuse him but he still came to her shamelessly because he knew that even if every other survivor could be left behind, that ancestor could not be left behind!

With an amicable smile on his lips, he rubbed his hands together and said to Bai Meiyue, "I know that you are angry with my abrupt actions but the safe base is in a lot of trouble. If I keep these people there, then they are bound to be caught in the fray. There are more than twenty pregnant women. If they die, it would be one body and two deaths. I cannot shoulder such a pain and blame on my shoulders, can you?"

Bai Meiyue rolled her eyes. She knew that the man was trying to trap her with the moral talk and whatnot. Indeed, she couldn't watch more than twenty women who were carrying children die. However, it didn't mean that this man could take advantage of her or her remaining kindness.

She said to him, "It's fine if you want to bring these people in here; I will give them a place to stay but you need to pay for their living expenses. I don't think that they are skilled enough to do that, are they?"

"I need to send living expenses?" Fox was stunned. When he came to look for Bai Meiyue, he never thought that he would need to bring living expenses for this many people.

"Fifty crystal nuclei for each," Bai Meiyue didn't show any mercy and simply put forth her price. She was not going to let this man take advantage of her just because she was willing to do a favour for him. "They would also need to do some work at the mansion. If not, then I will not keep them here. You should be aware of this:I do not raise any freeloaders. Unless they work hard, they can forget about living in this mansion. These are my conditions and you can accept or reject them as you like."

Fox licked his teeth. Of course he knew these things but –

"I have nothing against these conditions but," Fox said to her. "There is a little problem." he raised his hand and pointed in a particular direction.

Bai Meiyue followed his gaze and turned to look in the direction in which he was pointing. There stood a woman, a rather young one. Maybe she was only twenty or so years old and she looked rather pretty if only she didn't have a scowl on her face. She was dressed in a rather fluffy and cute dress, which certainly did not match her current physique, as she was quite heavily pregnant but she was still determined to wear a pink jacket with puffy sleeves and a white tank top that rode her pregnant belly and a skirt so short that Bai Meiyue could nearly see her panties.

Behind the woman stood a tall and sturdy young man, who was certainly her bodyguard, as he was holding a parasol over the head of the woman even when the sun was not that hot; the woman still had a frown on her face as if she was standing in a ditch with humid air surrounding her. There was another guard who held a battery-operated fan in his hands and was pointing in the direction of the woman.

And that was not all. There were eight more guards like that and each of them was carrying something. From picnic basket to foldable chair, they had everything, which showed how pampered this woman was!
