What Bai Meiyue expected to happen was spot on. At that moment, Yu Miaomiao, who was hiding in the research centre, felt the high-tech glasses that she was wearing starting to heat up. But before she could take them off, they exploded. She pulled the glasses off and threw them on the ground, but by then the damage was already done. One of her eyes received severe damage and ended up getting burned.

A trail of blood dripped down her eye that received the maximum damage due to the explosion, and Yu Miaomiao let out a painful scream that echoed through the research centre.

"What happened?" Her sudden scream startled the guards, who turned to look at one another. They could not understand what happened to Yu Miaomiao all of a sudden. The woman was perfectly fine just a few minutes ago. Why was she screaming as if she were about to die?

"Call Officer Lin," said another guard. He frowned and looked at the door of the research centre and said to his partner, "We don't know what is up with Chief Yu, and we don't have the authority to enter her office either. In case something happens, we will be the ones who will suffer the wrath of that woman."

The other soldier pursed his lips before nodding. He turned around on his feet and then headed to the apartment building where Officer Lin lived. The soldier didn't waste any time and brought back Officer Lin in less than ten minutes.

And when Officer Lin heard that there was something going on inside the research centre, he didn't think twice before unlocking the door and entering the large space.

"Chief Yu!" Though Officer Lin was upset due to the actions of Yu Miaomiao, he still firmly believed that the woman would be able to help them live a peaceful life in the future. When he saw that the woman was on her knees and was clutching her eye that seemed to be bleeding, he turned worried. What now? They didn't even have skilled doctors who could take care of such a serious injury.

"Go and call the special team. Ask them to bring Bai Meiyue! I want that woman alive — they are not allowed to return without bringing her back!"

Yu Miaomiao wanted to tell Officer Lin to bring Bai Meiyue alive or dead, but she knew that it was not possible. First of all, the leader of the special team was Bai Feng, who was Bai Meiyue's brother. Secondly, Bai Meiyue was not simple. That woman had skills that cannot be underestimated. To think that she was able to stand against the countless waves of the mutated bugs, even though she was pregnant.

If she sent Bai Feng and the rest of the ability users to bring Bai Meiyue, she was worried that the fight would certainly lead to the deaths of many ability users. She couldn't allow that to happen. "Damn it!" Yu Miaomiao cursed as she banged her hand on the table. She had a good plan. All she needed was to wait for Bai Meiyue to be exhausted. When the woman was on the verge of dying, she would have sent the special team and rescued her and her family. The plan was to rescue Bai Meiyue, but in truth, she wanted to corner and capture Bai Meiyue. Who would have thought that before that happened, Lei Qian would arrive?

She admired the man. Adored how charming he was, but at that moment, Yu Miaomiao truly wished to kill him! How dare he ruin her flawless plan?

At that moment, the door of the research centre was pushed open, and a soldier came rushing in.

"What's the matter with you? You are not allowed to enter this place!" Officer Lin shouted at the soldier. Though he was still reeling from the order that Yu Miaomiao had given him, his head was still clear.

"I didn't want to come here, Officer Lin! But I have no other choice," said the soldier with a worried look in his eyes. "There is another tide of mutated bugs, but this one is bigger than the last one! The entire base is about to be covered by them, and as everyone is hiding in their houses, these mutated bugs are showing no signs of leaving."

"What!?" Yu Miaomiao screeched. She picked up the glasses from the floor and placed them on the bridge of her nose. But just as she tried to activate them, the glasses started to heat up again and nearly burned her skin. "Damn it!"

She couldn't even activate the spider cams. How was she supposed to take a look outside?

Yu Miaomiao couldn't help but wonder how long Lei Qian and his team had been keeping track of her spider cams and how in the world they got so close that they exploded the control centre? What was even more shocking was that Bai Meiyue and Lei Qian wanted to move for a long time; if not, how could they have planned everything so clearly?

The more Yu Miaomiao thought, the angrier she became. She regretted being so kind and gentle with Bai Meiyue and her family. She should have used the same kind of force that she had used against others. She should have forced or coerced Bai Meiyue when she still had time. If she had, then Bai Meiyue would have never gotten the chance to escape her grasp.
