Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies

The soldier's voice turned more and more fervent as he continued to speak, "Chief Yu could have saved us. She could have sent a few ability users with us, but she didn't care about our lives. She left us to fend for ourselves. How can we not be disappointed in her?"

Another soldier blinked the tears that were flickering in his eyes and said to Fox, "Leader, I want to stop working for the army. I can't do this anymore. When I joined the base, I thought that they would give me a better place to stay and a job that would be respectful and would help me live a comfortable life. But today I realised that this job is simply a trap."

"No one cares about our lives and deaths. Even if we die, the chief will not even blink her eyes and fill our positions with someone else. But our families care for us, my parents love me, and I have siblings to care for. Even if I am not an ability user, there are people who love and care for me. I don't want to give up on my life for someone as heartless as Chief Yu. I want to leave the army. But will Chief Yu accept my resignation?"

"Why does it matter if she accepts the resignation or not? In this time and era, what can she do to you even if you run away from the army?" Fox looked at the soldiers with an inexplicable set of emotions. His lips, which were curved up, dropped, and he stopped smiling. The smile lines near his eyes also disappeared as he stopped smiling.

He said to the soldiers with a calm voice, "If you want, then you can follow Bai Meiyue. I will arrange for your families to follow you all very soon, don't worry. They will be safe under my command. You are right, even if Chief Yu doesn't care about you, your families do care about you all. You are their sons, brothers and husbands. They cannot survive without you."

"I believe following Bai Meiyue is better. You don't aim to do meritorious deeds and dominate the world. All you want is to survive. Bai Meiyue and the team under her wings have the same goals; they don't want to have any other ambition but to live a good life where they don't have to worry about anything else. Why do you have to worry about what Chief Yu would do? Since she doesn't care about your lives, you shouldn't care about her either. Once Bai Meiyue leaves, you should follow her and her team, just go with them and have them take you all in. There is no need to come back. I will bring your families to where Bai Meiyue will live in the future."

Fox was a bit disheartened, and the pain in his voice was obvious. Although he wanted to make great changes and have everyone know his name, he could still understand the pain and suffering of these soldiers. Using the lives of the soldiers to make the base bigger and bigger, it was really a cruel gamble.

And even if he stopped these soldiers from running away today, nothing was going to change. They had lost their loyalty towards Yu Miaomiao after they were left to die in the hands of the mutated bugs. They had seen the true face of their leader and would no longer serve her with the same loyalty with which they had served her earlier. Keeping them in the army would only affect the morale of the other soldiers.

So it was better to let them go with Bai Meiyue, at least that way, he would be doing a good deed.

At that moment, Bai Meiyue was unaware of the fact that Fox had already decided to hand her more than twenty soldiers. She had finished exchanging a few invisibility talismans and tranquilising guns from the barter system and was now making her way to the warehouse of the base. She had gone out earlier to locate the three main warehouses of the base, which Yu Miaomiao had secured. Though it had taken her some time, she had somehow managed to follow a few wood ability users and the hunting teams.

She didn't care about packing all the stuff that she had left in her room because she only needed to go back and take it all in her space pocket. There was no need for her to pack and that left her with enough time on her hands to deal one final blow to Yu Miaomiao and the ability users under her command.

With the invisibility talisman stuck on her clothes, she easily walked past the soldiers and ability users guarding the boundaries of the base and went to the warehouse number one. It was actually a garage that had been renovated into a warehouse. Bai Meiyue had already followed the guards around; thus, she knew the code as well as the security measures.

She first knocked down the two guards who were standing outside the warehouse and then lifted them in front of the security lock to scan their irises as well as their fingerprints. As she had turned invisible, Bai Meiyue didn't need to worry about getting caught. Once she was done scanning, the door opened, and Bai Meiyue walked into the warehouse.

She looked around and scoffed. All the medicines and supplies that Yu Miaomiao had snatched from her were kept in this warehouse. Most of the warehouse was filled with the supplies that she had given to the army, which showed how much Yu Miaomiao had taken from her.

Bai Meiyue didn't even think twice; she first dealt with the surveillance cameras and then waved her hands before collecting all the supplies. Once she was done she went ahead and collected the supplies in the second and third warehouse as well, she didn't even leave a pit of peach behind!
