Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies

Chapter 573: Collecting Interest

Bai Meiyue turned and whispered something in Bai Jixuan's ears. Her voice was controlled, and Fox couldn't hear a thing. He frowned, wondering what the woman was trying to do, but his confusion didn't last for long because a few seconds later, Bai Jixuan appeared in front of him. Fox frowned even harder when he saw what the man was clutching in his hands. It was a dirty rag.

"What? What are you trying to do?" he asked Bai Meiyue, even though he already had a very good idea what the woman was trying to do.

Bai Meiyue simply smiled. She replied, "Can't you see? We are going to stuff this rag in your mouth to silence you."

"There is no need to do that," Fox said hastily. He looked at the dirty rag in Bai Jixuan's hand and shuddered. "I will not scream and stay quiet."

"That won't do," Bai Meiyue corrected him with a shake of his head. "You are a hostage, and we have taken you under our control with force. If you stay well-behaved, then Yu Miaomiao will think that you are on the plan with us. We cannot allow that to happen, can we? So you need to play the part very carefully."

"Hostages are not treated well; they are tied up and thrown to one side. They are treated roughly to make sure that those who need to be subdued are subdued properly. If you are treated nicely by us, would Yu Miaomiao be worried about your life and death? No. Since that is the case, we can only treat you roughly for a few hours. Don't worry, Mister Fox, we will make sure to hold back."

She then turned to look at her brother, who stood behind her, and without saying anything, stepped aside. Realising what Bai Meiyue wanted him to do, Bai Jixuan didn't say a thing and moved forward. He raised his hand and stuffed the rag in Fox's mouth. With the handcuffs tied around his wrist, Fox was like a doll in the hands of Bai Jixuan and Bai Meiyue.

He didn't even have the strength to stand up straight, so how could he even fight Bai Jixuan? He could only watch the man stuff his mouth with a dirty rag and sighed. He knew that Bai Meiyue was taking revenge on him for all the trouble that he had brought her by stealing the soil from her greenhouse.

Bai Meiyue then said, "Tie him up, Second Brother. We cannot leave him alone; what if he runs away?"

Indeed, Fox was quite correct. Bai Meiyue was indeed taking revenge for the trouble that he brought to her door after stealing the soil from her greenhouse. If this man had stayed put, then nothing would have happened. Her child wouldn't have been threatened, and she wouldn't have lost her temper. Nor would Yu Miaomiao get to know about her true level. It was Fox who brought the trouble to her door.

Bai Jixuan nodded and agreed with his sister. He dragged Fox and tied him to the pillar in the corridor and then left a few ability users to guard him.

Bai Meiyue, on the other hand, turned to look at the orphans and Meng Guo, who had long become the leader of the children. "Go and tell your mother that we are moving. Ask her to collect her bags and bring everything that is necessary with her, and what she cannot take with her, she can leave behind. We need to move tonight."

Meng Guo nodded. He turned to look at his friends and urged them to grab whatever they could and go down to the garage.

When others heard Bai Meiyue's words, they looked at one another. They had gotten a bit used to living in this place. This complex had become their home, but now, because of Yu Miaomiao's interference, they ended up becoming homeless again. Even though Bai Meiyue had arranged another place for them to live, they knew that living in the mansion would never be the same.

They felt saddened by the prospect of moving, but beneath the grief, they felt angry and upset with Yu Miaomiao. They couldn't understand why that woman wouldn't leave them alone. They could have lived a good life if only that woman hadn't interfered. Though they were annoyed, they had no other choice but to get busy, and they started packing their stuff. What they couldn't collect, they dumped in the trash, making sure that no one would be able to use it.

Fox watched them working hard and sighed. This time, they had really miscalculated. In fact, he even told Yu Miaomiao that this plan would not work, but the woman was way too conceited; she believed that Bai Meiyue would never leave the base. Now this was good; they had lost not only the hen but also the eggs that they were trying to snatch.

He turned and looked at the soldiers who didn't return to the base even though they could have, as they were not tied down by Bai Meiyue. He asked, "What's this? Are you disappointed in the chief as well?"

Fox was smiling, but the soldiers were not. A few of them had tears in their eyes. One of them rubbed his eyes and said to Fox, "Leader, you don't know how terrifying it was just now. We were cornered by the mutated bugs and nearly lost our lives; if not for Miss Bai, who stepped in, we would have become a puddle of blood on the street. It was really terrifying. Who did we step out for?"

"Isn't it the chief? She asked us to go and wash the streets clean such that she could put Miss Bai's guard down and make her believe that she was on the same side as her and would fight alongside her. Because of her command, we all came out of the safety of our homes but what did we receive in return? Betrayal!"
