"No need for the formalities, we will be teammates in the future, just call me Gu Fan." Gu Fan said as he went to the sofa and sat down.
"What brings you here?" Yang Leo asked because from his interaction with Ye Xuan's squad yesterday, he had figured that Gu Fan and Jing Xian didn't like to talk too much, thus, he would not be here for no reason.
"The boss gave us a mission, but we need your help to complete it. We are going to look for materials used in making communication devices….." Gu Fan proceeded to explain everything he had talked about with Ye Xuan to Yang Leo.
"Do you think you can help in getting the materials and also making the gadgets?" Gu Fan asked after he was done explaining.
"Of course, I can do it. Since it's something that will help both the team and humanity as well, I have to do my best.
In fact, before all this started I was doing research with some of my students at the university. We were researching the use of wavelengths and magnetic fields in communication instead of networks.
Our research was not mature yet, but we had the necessary equipment and materials. So, we can just use those. However, we don't have much time for further complicated research, since the network has probably collapsed due to the floods ruining network stations around the world, we can depend on satellites.
Satellites should still be available now and usable. We will use that instead of network or magnetic fields and wavelengths. We can conduct further research later to avoid a situation where the satellites collapse and communication breaks down completely." Yang leo was excited when it came to doing something in his field.
He couldn't wait to start. At least now he felt useful and not a burden that only received help without contributing. He felt that even as a superpower user, he was still useless because he had not seen his powers help anyone.
Having telekinetic powers sounded cool, but what was the use of having the ability to bring things closer to stuff like that? How was that helpful at all? Nevertheless, he never let anyone see his doubts because his family needed his protection.
Now that there was a way to help out in the team, he was excited to start right away.
"Alright then, I'll go talk to my brothers and see when to go there. Do you have any specific requirements?" Gu Fan asked because the person going to take the supplies would be him.
"I have no requirements. Since the flood water is rising so fast, how about we go today instead of waiting? The lab where I worked on the project is on the sixth floor of the academic building of the physics school.
That place is a little lower than the other areas, probably because of the lake nearby. So, I suppose it has been flooded to the fifth floor already unlike the other places that have only their fourth floor flooded.
If we wait any longer, we might not be able to salvage much. Luckily, some of the materials and prototype were left in my office, which happens to be on the tenth floor of the administration building.
So, we can go and get those too. They will come in handy when it comes to making a complete product." Yang Leo thought it was better to go earlier because if those things were submerged, then nothing could be done after they spoil.
"Okay then. I'll go talk to my brothers. You prepare to leave, we'll be here in a short while." Gu Fan felt that Yang Leo made sense. It was better to go earlier and secure whatever they wanted and needed before the flood water swept everything.
After saying goodbye, Gu Fan went back to the seventeenth floor and found his brothers in the living room playing cards.
Looking at this scene, he felt both relieved and exasperated. He was relieved because at this point, it was not healthy mentally for everyone to be thinking about nothing more than survival. It was taxing mentally and would cause them to develop depression, which was not ideal for the mission they had to complete to preserve and protect humanity.
However, he was also exasperated by the fact that they had the leisure to play cards at this time. Other people were dying of starvation or from fighting zombies to the death, yet here they were, having fun.
That word had become almost foreign. Before the apocalypse, you could meet both young and old people in entertainment joints having fun. Even the elderly would go dancing in the park in the mornings or evenings to enable them to live a healthy life.
But at this moment, you could not even tell where a park used to be. It is such a suffocating feeling but as humans with responsibilities, they had to grit their teeth and do what is necessary to improve their chances of survival and find ways to protect the remaining human beings.
And this mission was one of those ways. If they find what they were looking for, they could communicate with others and if they were in danger and they could help, then that would ensure another layer of protection for the citizens.
"Hey, get up, we need to go out on a mission. The boss wants us to go to University A to get some things that are useful for research and building communication devices." Gu Fan had to stop the people playing cards on the table.
When the other heard that they were going on a mission, they all stopped what they were doing and got up to go to their rooms to prepare. They didn't ask questions, just like when they were in the military. If Ye Xuan gave them a mission, they would jump into action without questions.
Within five minutes, the few people met back in the living room in their military waterproof gear.
