Chapter 264: Criteria for Choosing New Members
Chu Miao turned around and hugged Ye Xuan's waist tightly. It felt good to have someone who could share the burden with her without worrying about being judged for trivial matters or being called biased.
She felt understood every time she talked to Ye Xuan and it made her more confident about her actions in the future.
"Don't worry about unnecessary people, just do what you feel is right in the future. You don't have to care about people who don't matter." Ye Xuan added when he felt the emotional turmoil of the woman hiding in his chest.
At that moment, Chu Miao felt that she had made the right decision to accept Ye Xuan as her partner and lover. She could be herself when she was with him without wearing the mask of a competent leader. She could be a nineteen year old girl who is both strong and vulnerable.
She could be that girl who needs a hug because things weren't going her way and feel the warmth of other people other than her family. At that moment, she understood that she had always needed more than just her family, and she had found the right companion in Ye Xuan.
"I want to turn our community into a safe zone to build our sect once the rain stops and the irrelevant people leave. Actually, since these people live in the same community as us and have shared suffering with us, I was thinking about including them in the sect as the first members.
However, that will also depend on the people themselves. We can't force them to be part of something that they are not interested in. Moreover, forcing others will just create enemies. I was thinking that after the rain stops, we can volunteer to clean the community to prevent communicable diseases and the spread of viruses and at the same time talk to the people about building our own safe zone instead of depending on the government for everything.
Those who want to be a part of it can join us and those who don't can move to the government-owned safe bases to stay there. What do you think about this?" Chu Miao asked after giving Ye Xuan a rough draft of what she was hoping to build.
"Your vision is good, though not many people will appreciate it at the beginning. Many people will probably think that you want to exploit them. They trust the government more than ordinary citizens.
But that is okay. Those who stay will help establish a lasting legacy. Such a large sect where people from different backgrounds meet will need rules and regulations to control the people and maintain peace. Have you thought of what to do and how to set the rules?" Ye Xuan first comforted his girlfriend before asking one of the most important questions in regards to the establishment of the sect.
Indeed, Chu Miao had already thought of this. No community can function without rules and a place like a sect, this issue is even more serious because people from different parts of the country or world might become a part of it.
Their country had been thriving before the apocalypse and one of the most successful industries had been business tourism. Many foreigners had been in their country for business and others for leisure and when the apocalypse started and transportation channels collapsed, they were stuck in the country for good.
Such foreigners are humans too and would join others in fighting for survival. In such cases where people from across diverse cultures and backgrounds meet, rules become the glue that holds them together. Therefore, Chu Miao knew that her boyfriend made sense when he said that rules were very important.
"I wanted to sit down and write the rules with you before running them through with my family and other representatives. By the way, I feel that our team has grown too much and we need some individuals to act as team leaders or more like executives.
They can be the mouth piece of the people in their team and also the custodians of the rules we set. They have the right and ability to mete out punishment as well as provide or promise rewards for accomplishments.
We can't do everything ourselves. So, I thought that this is a good way to make sure our sect is organized. What do you think?" Chu Miao explained her thoughts to her boyfriend in more detail.
"I think you've already thought of everything. Your ideas will work well, especially in such an environment where people come from different backgrounds.
There are people who feel entitled and have grown up being served. Such people, maybe not all of them may feel that those who come from lesser backgrounds should become their servants, this is something that cannot be allowed to sprout in our sect.
So, rules and regulations are necessary. Moreover, your idea of rewards and punishments is also excellent. If someone makes a mistake, they are punished and if they make a contribution, they are rewarded.
This is the essence of leadership. You are amazing, darling." Ye Xuan praised and lowered his head to kiss Chu Miao on top of her head, his eyes filled with adoration.
Chu Miao felt embarrassed being praised like that because she knew that this was something that anyone could have come up with. However, she still felt her sense of vanity fulfilled by getting praised by the man she loved.
Every human being with emotions had a certain degree of vanity and as long as it didn't harm others, then there was no harm in indulging in one's fantasies.
"You are just overpraising me. But now that you mentioned it, I feel that we should do thorough vetting when we accept new people into the sect in case we take just anybody and end up inviting disaster.
I also think that in the apocalypse world where the law of the jungle rule and the strong survive, using the civilized methods of leadership might not work in the future.
It was better to adopt a more primitive approach when it comes to setting rules for the sect." Chu Miao thought of how superpower users could easily deal with ordinary people and felt that it was better to take precautions early.
