Chapter 263: “No Need to Feel Guilty.”
Now that he had made that decision, he felt a lot lighter and even felt as if he could see his romantic life flourishing in the future. He stood at the deck of the yacht leaning on the railing with his elbows placed on the railing supporting the sides of his face. Anyone who saw his changing expressions from confused to blissful, to determination, and finally wearing a silly smile would think that he had suffered some trauma.
No wonder Chu Miao always called him a silly brother.
Chu Miao and Ye Xuan had no idea about Chu Hao's thoughts, and even if they knew, they wouldn't care so much anad would just support him silently.
At that moment, they were both standing at the rooftop of the building they had collected supplies from before. It was the only way Chu Miao could teleport so accurately. When she was teleporting to a place she had a clear picture of in her mind, whether from visiting it before or from a 3D map, she could always teleport to the exact place accurately.
The two were standing at the edge of the roof looking into the distance thoughtfully. Ye Xuan stood behind Chu Miao with his arms wrapped around her tiny waist and his chin resting on top of her head.
Chu Miao's hands held onto Ye Xuan's in front of her stomach as she leaned her back against his chest. Both were silent, listening to each other's breathing and thinking about the future.
Ye Xuan had used his spiritual energy to cover the two of them and protect them from the winds and rain. He was glad that the Chu family had chosen to introduce cultivation to him. It was so convenient for him to protect his beloved even from something as trivial as rain.
If he had to use an umbrella, he would not be able to prevent some parts of her body from getting wet in this heavy rain. He felt both grateful and appreciative.
However, his heart also felt heavy because even if the Chu family had not said anything specific, he could tell that they were carrying a heavy burden, especially his beloved. She was still so young, but instead of being carefree and letting her family protect her, she was always busy protecting others and looking for ways to become stronger.
This was not something a normal teenager would do, thus, there was only one reason she would be so uptight and strict with herself, she had a mission to fulfill, and that mission required her to be very strong.
You have to admit, Ye Xuan didn't expand the Ye Group by chance after taking over when he retired from the military. He was smart, resourceful, and could think several steps ahead into the future.
This can be attested by how he had managed to figure out Chu Miao's issue with only a few clues. However, even though he had already figured out the issue with his girlfriend, Ye Xuan had no intention of asking her about it. After all, they were both entitled to their own privacy even when dating.
If Chu Miao ever felt that she was ready to tell him about it, he would listen and help in the best way he could.
"When do you think this rain will end? It is preventing me from doing so many things?" Chu Miao asked out of the blue, which broke the silence between the two lovers and also brought Ye Xuan out of his reverie.
"Going by how long the extreme heat took, it shouldn't be long now. But it seems like the flood would have risen to higher levels before the rain stops." Ye Xuan replied to the woman in his arms.
"Let's hope more people don't die in vain from drowning and starvation." Commented the sad little general.
In fact, Chu Miao knew that hoping people would not get killed in the floods was just wishful thinking, after all, many had already died even in their building.
Moreover, the issue of cholera also emerging had added to the problem of hunger, thirst, and lack of proper shelter.
These were the problems that had arisen with the floods, once the water dried up and dirty animals and insects started to spread bacterias and viruses, the situation would become even more deadly.
The thought of some dead bodies having been dumped in the flood water made Chu Miao's skin crawl. People didn't have the means to bury their dead relatives and neighbors and once someone died, it had become the norm to just toss them out the window.
Death was no longer regarded as anything to be respected. Before the apocalypse, if a relative died, people would send them off with respect, burn money paper for them, and offer incense. But at the moment, people had more things to worry about and respecting the dead wasn't one of them.
"Don't stress yourself too much. We will do what we can for the time being and help the people we can and those we should. No need to feel guilty. Many of the people who are perishing had many opportunities to go out and collect supplies but because they chose to depend on the government or other survivors, they missed the best chance to collect supplies when the land was still dry.
Even now, there are people who have access to the means of transporting supplies even if they have to use inflatable boats, but they choose to hide at home because they are afraid of zombies or the rain. You can't help such people even if you wanted to. So, there is no need to feel burdened." Ye Xuan really loved his girl. He could say so many words just to comfort her. Something that his subordinates would never have the luxury of experiencing.
Chu Miao felt comforted after hearing her boyfriend's analysis. Indeed, why did she have to feel bad about those people who refused to make an effort to survive? Wasn't that the obvious result of being cowardly and feeling entitled?
