Apocalypse: Mad Necromancer’s Troops

Chapter 31: Three Dogs

Chapter 31: Three Dogs

Looking at the gleaming bullets, Wu Heng felt confident again.

Ever since running out of bullets in the mining village, he had felt less secure going out.

Moreover, Blackstone Town wasn’t as safe as it seemed on the surface.

After all, it was a professional world, and the peace was merely a façade.

The additional guards sent to the town and the patrols by the professional squads indicated that things weren’t so safe recently.

Although the Fourth Squad didn’t need to participate in the patrols, it was still essential to have more self-defense measures.

Now that he had bullets, he might not be able to handle powerful enemies, but dealing with fugitives should be no problem.

Inside the safe, besides boxes of bullets,

There were also several handguns with tags, likely kept there for safekeeping.

He first loaded his own handgun with bullets.

Then, he packed all the bullets and handguns into a backpack.

After emptying the safe, he hung the backpack on one of the skeletons.

Apart from the bullet-laden safe, the room also contained other police equipment: handcuffs, metal flashlights, batons, and something like riot shields made of plastic.

These items weren’t in the safe but were simply placed outside.

They didn’t seem particularly useful to him.

But since he was here, he decided to take them anyway.

He packed the smaller items into the backpack and had the skeletons carry the shields.

Then, he headed downstairs.

……

As he descended to the first floor, the smell of burning hit him.

The fire from the Grease spell had gone out, leaving behind a scorched mass of corpses.

The battle at the front door was still ongoing.

The few remaining zombies lunged at the spear-wielding skeletons.

Their bodies were pierced and then collapsed to the ground.

Time passed, and when the last zombie fell, the area finally fell silent.

Only the car horn in the distance continued to blare.

But it seemed that all the zombies had been drawn over, as no new ones appeared.

Wu Heng ordered the skeletons to clear the bodies blocking the door, then began casting 【Raise Skeleton】.

One by one, the skeletons stood up, slowly joining the rear ranks.

He continued the reanimation process until dusk.

Wu Heng didn’t plan to stay here any longer. Although this was a police station, it wasn’t as defensible as the residential buildings.

If special mutated zombies or other creatures showed up, his entire force could be wiped out here.

He glanced at the unconverted corpses on the ground, feeling reluctant to leave them behind.

"Pick up the bodies."

Under Wu Heng’s command, the skeletons lifted the bodies.

Forming a procession of corpse carriers, they retraced their steps.

As they passed the zombie slumped over the steering wheel, Barson propped it up.

The shrill car horn finally stopped.

Silence returned.

The skeletons crossed the area of crashed vehicles, carrying the bloodied bodies back to the residential area.

They placed the bodies on the ground, securing the building entrance.

Wu Heng then returned to Blackstone Town.

……

In Blackstone Town,

Wu Heng bought dinner at a tavern and took it back to his place.

He pulled out a braised chicken leg, sausage, and peanuts, then opened a can of cola.

He looked at the meal on the table, nodding in satisfaction.

It wasn’t that he couldn’t afford a better meal, but the tavern food didn’t have the same familiar taste.

Eating and drinking, he couldn’t help but feel a bit nostalgic for his old life.

Those days of endlessly scrolling through videos, eating and drinking whenever he wanted—those decadent days.

He used to fantasize about a different life.

Now it seemed that his once-boring days were a luxury that only the wealthy in this world could enjoy.

"Sigh~! Damn apocalypse."

After eating and drinking his fill, Wu Heng pulled out a handgun and loaded it with bullets before handing it to Barson. "Do you know how to use this?"

Barson took it and examined it from all angles.

Wu Heng pointed at the gun and explained, "This is the safety. Once you unlock it, you can fire at enemies. It’s similar to using a crossbow. Just aim through here and shoot directly at close range…."

Barson listened intently, absorbing the new knowledge.

He knew how to use a crossbow, so learning to use a handgun wasn’t difficult.

Then he tried unlocking the safety and aimed the gun at the wooden target in the corner.

Wu Heng reminded him not to waste bullets before returning to the table to load the remaining magazines.

He had several guns, all of the same model.

The magazines fit perfectly, so if a fight broke out, he could just swap them out instead of reloading bullet by bullet.

In hindsight, raiding the police station was the right decision.

Although he only had handgun bullets for now, it was enough.

Someday, if he managed to get his hands on rifles or rocket launchers, maybe he could form a skeleton special forces unit armed with AKs.

What era are we in, still using cold weapons?

After loading the magazines, the sky had begun to darken.

Confirming that no one would come looking for him, he opened the portal and summoned Sword One.

He resumed his sword training.

Ever since learning that weapon proficiency could be unlocked on his stats screen, he had been more eager to train with weapons.

It felt like playing a game and unlocking achievements.

After correcting his posture, Wu Heng followed Sword One’s lead, swinging his iron sword.

Meanwhile, Barson continued to familiarize himself with the handgun.

……

The next day, in the zombie world,

Wu Heng went to the rooftop and checked the levels of the spear-wielding skeletons.

Besides the first skeleton he reanimated, two more had reached level three.

The level-up progression was evident.

He could form a spear phalanx and lure monsters to level up himself and the skeletons.

This method seemed relatively safe and efficient.

After distributing cleavers to the newly reanimated skeletons, Wu Heng led his skeleton army downstairs.

As they exited the building, five or six zombies with missing limbs and heads began to snarl and approach.

Why are there more zombies?

He had cleared the area three or four times already. Where did these come from?

"Attack!" Wu Heng ordered.

Clatter!

Without any particular formation, the skeleton warriors swarmed and hacked down the approaching zombies.

Wu Heng went to the pile of corpses he hadn’t finished reanimating yesterday and continued the process.

One by one, the skeletons stood up and joined the rear ranks.

……

By the afternoon,

After reanimating the corpses,

He led his skeleton army eastward to clear out a few more residential buildings.

He opened the building doors, and the skeletons swarmed in, killing all the zombies inside.

Once the area was secure, Wu Heng began looting.

As dusk approached, Wu Heng returned to the rooftop with the skeletons, preparing to head back to Blackstone Town for dinner.

Just as the skeletons stood at attention, and he was about to leave through the portal,

He heard zombie snarls and a commotion from downstairs.

Wu Heng walked to the edge of the rooftop and looked down.

He saw three large mutated dogs leading a pack of over twenty zombies toward his location.

The dogs would run a few steps, then turn back to wait for the pursuing zombies.

"So it’s you guys who brought them here."

Those limbless zombies downstairs this morning were the ones they had led here.

The three mutated dogs were all sizable.

One of them had a black, slender body with a narrow head, long neck, and straight legs.

After mutating, it looked more like a black horse with a dog’s head than a dog.

It was absurdly grotesque.

"What are these three doing here?"

These were the three mutated dogs he had encountered at the southern plaza, but now they had wandered over here, bringing along some zombies.

He glanced at the dogs playing with the zombies below and then at Teddy, who was squatting nearby, also peering down.

Teddy’s bony tail wagged like a fan.

"I wonder if I can lure them up here and kill them."
