Chapter 31: 31 When the Girl Grows Up
On the road leading to Nezu Shrine, the sky had already darkened, and Hojou Kyousuke was riding his bike at the front.
Although he really wanted to speed up, he wasn't familiar with the bike yet, so he was going at a very slow pace.
Because of his slow speed, a large group of his subordinates on motorcycles was following behind him, forced to ride slowly as well.
This caused what was normally a relatively wide Honmachi Avenue to quickly become congested.
The cars stuck behind the motorcycle gang didn't dare honk their horns—partly because they were in the city and partly because the bikes in front were all his subordinates.
It was probably confusing for the drivers, as they were used to seeing the gang rush through traffic like they were racing to get to the afterlife, but today, they were moving at a snail's pace.
"Makki, take them to the shrine first. I'll catch up slowly," Kyousuke said, seeing that more and more cars were piling up behind them.
He spoke to Makki, who was trailing just a car length behind.
"Hey, Kanahra, you go ahead with them. I'll be a bit late," he instructed as his orders were passed down the line.
Soon, the sound of roaring motorcycles filled the air, zooming past him with a whoosh.
It was only about three kilometers from Higashi High School to Nezu Shrine, so even Kyousuke, who was riding slowly, didn't take long to arrive.
There was no parking at the shrine itself, so the surrounding area was already filled with the motorcycles of his gang members.
Fortunately, the shrine was closed to the public by that time, so it didn't cause any trouble.
But even if it were open, his subordinates wouldn't have cared.
Kyousuke found a parking spot and got off his bike, then began looking for a few familiar faces.
He quickly spotted Yamauchi Sakura and the others at the entrance of the shrine.
Although they were in a rush, the girls had taken time to dress up.
It had only been a few days since they started middle school, but it seemed like they were rapidly maturing.
Their bodies were starting to show more curves, and the baby fat had disappeared from their faces, revealing their individual charm.
Yamauchi Sakura's long brown hair cascaded over her shoulders.
She wore a white tank top with black stripes, revealing her slim arms like delicate lotus stems.
Her lower half was dressed in blue overalls and black sneakers, with the pants rolled up to show off her cute ankles.
She looked full of youthful energy, vibrant and lively.
Thank goodness, she didn't wear a kimono after all. I wouldn't have been able to take her for a ride if she had.
Shouko Nishimiya had her hair pinned up at the back of her head with a hairpin, while the rest of it was slightly disheveled.
She wore a white shirt, her chest noticeably prominent, and a simple blue and white plaid skirt.
Black knee-high socks and leather shoes completed the outfit.
When she noticed Kyousuke, Shouko gave him a small smile, exuding a mature charm.
I'm crazy. How old is Shouko again?
Seeing Shouko's smile, Yamauchi Sakura and Naoka Ueno also noticed Kyousuke and waved at him.
He waved back and walked toward them while checking out Naoka Ueno.
She's so pale, so tall, and so smooth.
Forgive me, but all Kyousuke could focus on were her long, perfect legs, which were glowing white even under the dim streetlights.
Naoka really knew how to show off her best features, and it was clear she knew exactly what caught Kyousuke's attention.
She wore a loose white T-shirt, and her ultra-short shorts disappeared beneath the hem of her shirt, making it impossible to notice anything but those incredible legs.
"Good evening," Kyousuke greeted, beginning to experience the downside of having too many female friends.
He didn't even know which name to call, so he just used a general greeting.
I can't keep gathering them together like this! He reminded himself.
"Hojou, you're so slow," Sakura complained, but her eyes were full of Kyousuke.
I never thought such an old-fashioned uniform would look so good on him.
This kind of long coat really challenges the person's figure.
Some people look shorter wearing it, but Kyousuke's physique was outstanding, and his long legs made it look perfect.
The windbreaker-style uniform looked great on him, and when he walked, the hem of his coat flared up slightly, shimmering with golden embroidery in the light from the roadside shops.
He looked both handsome and powerful.
"Sorry, sorry," Kyousuke apologized.
"Hehehe," Sakura wasn't looking for an apology.
She just enjoyed seeing him so unconditionally considerate toward her.
Shouko and Naoka also watched him intently.
"Hojou, why didn't you let me make your uniform?" Naoka said with a hint of regret.
"It would've been nice if you could've worn the one I made for you. But I guess you look good in this one, too."
"Hojou-kun, good evening," Shouko smiled shyly.
Despite their close relationship, she was still so easily embarrassed.
Was this also a kind of charm?
"Boss, it's time to go in. Everyone from the headquarters and the branches is already here," Makki Hojou called as he approached.
The days were getting longer in the Kanto region, and as Kyousuke and the girls entered Nezu Shrine, the sunset's glow still illuminated the azaleas beginning to bloom.
"Wow, it's so beautiful," the girls exclaimed, immediately pulling out their phones to take pictures.
"It's not even at its peak yet."
"Let's come back when the Nezu Shrine hosts the Azalea Festival."
"I'll bring my camera and take plenty of photos for you," Kyousuke said, but as soon as the words left his mouth, he mentally slapped himself.
He had just promised himself never to gather them together again, but he had already broken his own rule.
The girls reluctantly put their phones away, realizing it wasn't the right time for pictures. They had only been caught up in the moment.
Pink, purple, and white azaleas bloomed in abundance on both sides of the torii gate.
Kyousuke led the girls to the main hall of the shrine, following Makki Hojou.
By now, the area was filled with members of the "Bousou Tenshi" gang, probably over two hundred of them.
All of them wore white work-style uniforms and were chatting in small groups, occasionally bursting into laughter.
"Makki, find them a place to rest."
"Make sure responsible people are assigned to keep an eye on them. Don't let anyone bother them again, or I'll be angry," Kyousuke instructed.
Makki quickly summoned a subordinate, marked as the third squad's to take care of the arrangements.
"Can I be a boss, too? This uniform looks kind of cool!" one of the girls joked.
"Finish up and take me for a ride!" another said.
"Good luck, Hojou-kun!" they cheered.
The girls followed the third squad's to a nearby pavilion.
On the other side, noticing Kyousuke's arrival, Kanahara Takao immediately shouted, "Hey, you little punks, get over here! The meeting's starting!"
At his shout, the subordinates quickly gathered, forming rows, leaving a small path in the middle.
"Let's go, Boss," Makki Hojou said, trailing behind Kyousuke, a few steps behind.
Kisaki Tetta, who had just arrived at Nezu Shrine's entrance, mentioned having something to do and said he'd come back later.
Then he disappeared.
