Chapter 30: 30 Kendo Club [50 PS]
"Where's Makki? I haven't seen him anywhere." Hojou Kyousuke looked around, then turned to Kanahara Takao.
"The leader is preparing the motorcycle for you. He'll be here soon," Kanahara Takao respectfully answered.
Since Makki was still part of the Bousou Tenshi (Rampaging Angels), he had recognized him as the second-in-command who could take on the entire gang and still defeat the former leader.
"Oh, in that case, I'll go ahead and train." Kyousuke responded casually, not really understanding how difficult it was to prepare a good motorcycle for someone like him.
"Uh, Boss, could you please give some guidance to the members on kendo?" Takao asked quietly.
After all, they were the kendo club, and many members not only practiced kendo for fighting but also viewed it as a career.
The club culture in Japanese high schools was something hard to imagine in other countries.
For example, in kendo, winning the All-Japan Inter-High Kendo Championship could lead to great benefits, whether pursuing a career as a professional athlete or advancing in education.
There were also competitions like the Gyokuryu Flag and others, offering not only generous prize money but also valuable life advantages for high school students.
Kendo, a somewhat niche sport, was booming.
And when it came to sports like soccer, baseball, and basketball, the popularity was even higher.
For instance, the attendance at a high school football championship in Japan was often higher than some professional soccer games in other countries.
The portrayal of high school clubs in movies and dramas wasn't exaggerated at all.
The cheerleaders, the star players in clubs whose shoe lockers were filled with love letters, and the reporters chasing them during competitions, all showed how beloved they were by their fans.
If you wanted to compare the Inter-High (IH) to something, the NCAA in the U.S. might be the closest, though one is for high school sports and the other for college.
The similarities were striking, partly because many Japanese students choose to go straight into the workforce after high school.
After seeing Kyousuke's kendo skills, the members of the kendo club were eager to receive guidance from him in the Hokushin Ittoryu (Northern Star One Sword Style).
"Ah, that's fine, but I'm not exactly great at teaching," Kyousuke said.
He didn't mind helping out.
After all, if his subordinates got stronger, he wouldn't have to worry about them calling him in to save the day, leaving him more time to slack off.
"That's great!" Kanahara Takao exclaimed with excitement, even though he had expected the second-in-command to agree.
Hearing Kyousuke's straightforward response made him even more thrilled.
The kendo club members, who had been watching from a distance, immediately gathered around, their eyes full of anticipation as they looked at Kyousuke.
Seeing all those eager eyes, Kyousuke felt a little nervous.
He honestly didn't know how to teach.
He was a natural at kendo, and when he was trained by the likes of Yamamura and Ono-sensei, he only had to watch a sword technique once, then quickly improved in practice.
"Let's do paired practice. I'll hold back my strength. I'll point out where you're lacking, and you try to avoid my attacks," Kyousuke suggested.
At his words, the members quickly formed a circle, and Kanahara Takao stepped forward as the first to practice.
"Alright, give it your all." Kyousuke got into the middle guard stance.
Kanahara Takao, nervous, moved his throat up and down, then struck an upper guard stance and charged toward Kyousuke with a shout, putting all his energy into the attack.
At the moment his bamboo sword came down, Kyousuke countered, slashing from the right, pushing Kanahara Takao's sword to the side while stepping forward toward him.
After their swords crossed, Kyousuke swiftly withdrew his sword and raised it to the side of his face in the "In-no-kamae" stance, then let out a fierce shout as he aimed a strike at Kanahara Takao's abdomen.
Only after this series of moves did Kanahara Takao manage to stabilize his bamboo sword, having failed to defend in time.
Kyousuke, in his blue kendo uniform, looked particularly tall and imposing.
Every move, from blocking to dodging and striking, was smooth and filled with an effortless grace—every action seemed almost too cool for words.
Afterward, both of them stood and bowed, and the spectators applauded energetically.
"Kanbara, focus on your presence of mind, you..." Kyousuke began pointing out his mistakes, moving on to the next member.
The harmonious kendo practice continued until the sound of a roaring motorcycle engine interrupted them. Without anyone saying a word, Kyousuke instantly recognized it—it was the Guren ZⅡ.
"Boss, the vice leader is here," Kanahara Takao said.
As soon as he finished, the door of the kendo club opened, and the familiar voice of Makki Hojou called out.
"Hojou, come check out your motorcycle!"
Without even changing out of his kendo uniform, Kyousuke excitedly rushed outside.
In the open space outside the kendo club, Makki Hojou stood next to his Guren ZⅡ motorcycle, with a truck parked nearby.
"Is it on the truck?" Kyousuke asked, looking at the truck, which still had its rear door closed.
"Yeah, I managed to get it after a lot of effort. Just got off the plane and brought it straight here," Makki Hojou proudly said, patting the side of the truck.
Kyousuke was surprised. He had thought Makki had just bought a motorcycle from a shop, not one that had been airlifted from another city.
"Is it ready?" Makki Hojou asked as he pulled the truck's rear door open.
A sleek, jet-black motorcycle appeared before everyone.
"Triumph Rocket 3 GT Triple Black," Makki Hojou said quickly.
Even Kyousuke had no idea what that meant, and probably no one else understood either.
"The Triumph Rocket 3 Black Limited Edition, only 2,000 units worldwide! 2458cc three-cylinder engine, maximum torque of 221Nm at 4,000rpm, maximum horsepower 167hp at 6,000rpm..."
By this point, Kyousuke wasn't really paying attention to what Makki was saying.
His focus was entirely on the two stunning motorcycles.
As the setting sun's golden light poured into the truck, it illuminated the glossy black body of the bike.
Even the frog-eye headlights had been specially treated, blending seamlessly into the bike when not lit. It looked less goofy and more imposing.
The exhaust pipes were matte black.
Without hesitation, Kyousuke jumped into the truck bed and onto one of the bikes.
Even though the kendo uniform wasn't ideal for riding, he didn't mind.
The dashboard had a retro style, but the silver lines gave it a touch of modernity.
The seat was low and wide, allowing Kyousuke to place both feet flat on the ground.
The back seat had a small backrest.
This was perfect. Now he could take someone on a ride.
"Hey, Makki, how do I get it off the truck?" Kyousuke shouted toward the truck.
"Just use the stand and you can ride it off," Makki replied.
"I've never ridden a bike this big before," Kyousuke confessed.
During the last holiday, as soon as he was old enough, Kyousuke got his motorcycle license.
"Don't worry, it's the same as any other bike."
"Plus, this one's yours."
"Do you really want to let someone else be the first to ride it?" Makki said, already shouting to a couple of subordinates who were setting up a ramp to unload the bike.
"I'll handle it myself," Kyousuke said, gripping the handlebars and glancing at the rearview mirrors.

As the sun set, he could clearly see his own face in the mirror and thought to himself:
'I'll take Sakura out for a ride this weekend.'
"Ready? I'm going to unlock the stand now." Makki Hojou asked, walking up to the bike and holding it steady.
With an "OK" gesture, Kyousuke focused on the motorcycle.
Despite its massive size, with his inhuman strength, it was easy for him to handle.
It seemed like Makki Hojou was worried about Kyousuke's skills, so he had made the ramp extra wide and long, ensuring the new rider could get off the truck without trouble.
With a twist of the throttle, the roar of the engine filled the air, almost deafening, and Kyousuke felt his whole body shaken by the force.
"Ha ha ha! This bike's top of the food chain when it comes to engine displacement."
"No need to modify the exhaust—it already sounds amazing!" Makki laughed heartily.
Then, Kyousuke smoothly rode the motorcycle off the truck.
"This bike looks like it's not cheap," Kyousuke remarked, realizing the expensive gift he had just received.
He mentally calculated his assets—uh-oh, even if he used up all his scholarships, it might not be enough.
Would he have to ask his dad to sell some cows to return the favor?
"Ha ha ha! Don't worry about it."
"As long as Bousou Tenshi gets better under your leadership, I'd give you as many bikes as you want!" Makki Hojou said generously.
"Boss, Makki's family owns the biggest motorcycle dealership in Tokyo."
"He doesn't mind the cost. Many people in the gang got their bikes from him at cost price," Kanahara Takao added.
"Alright, I won't be polite then. Thanks, Makki," Kyousuke said.
Since confirming his position as second-in-command, Makki had asked Kyousuke to drop the "senpai" title and just call him Makki.
Even though Kyousuke had accepted the gift, he was already thinking about how to make some money to repay Makki with a gift of equal value.
He couldn't be that shameless.
Before he could enjoy the moment any longer, Makki Hojou urged him to change clothes, as his special "combat outfit" was already ready.
His special outfit, just like Makki's, seemed to be the boss's exclusive version.
It was a long, wide-sleeved jacket with gold lettering on the back that read "2nd in Command of Bousou Tenshi, Hojou Kyousuke."
However, there were no names listed below like there were on Makki's.
The space remained blank, and when Kyousuke saw it, he felt a strong urge to write the names of Yamauchi Sakura, Nishimiya Shouko, and Ueno Naoka on it.
Just like Makki had listed the names of the people who built Bousou Tenshi with him, those girls were his wings.
Kyousuke had already messaged the three girls earlier, telling them that tonight he would officially take over Bousou Tenshi at the Nezu Shrine and asking if they wanted to come watch.
When he asked Kanahara Takao whether it was allowed, Kanbara had simply told him that as the boss, he could do whatever he wanted.
After all, they were delinquents, and nothing was off-limits.
Yamauchi Sakura immediately sent a long voice message, excitedly saying she'd come.
She even asked if she should wear a kimono, as if she was the one becoming the leader.
Shouko cautiously asked if being a delinquent was very dangerous.
Kyousuke smiled, thinking that if he said it was dangerous, Shouko would come running to protect him, just like when they were younger, standing in front of him and shielding him from all the dangers.
'Ah, she's so cute! I definitely have to kiss her later', Kyousuke thought.
Ueno Naoka, like Sakura, immediately booked a ride for tonight and claimed she'd be the first one to go for a ride with him.
