Age of Summoner

Chapter 36: The Quest Bar Part III

"Then, what kinds of quests can I accept?"

"Well, it could only be E-level quests, boy—wait a minute," Thomas said clearly before bending down to pick up something from the bottom of the counter. “For now, it must be beginner-level quests that are not that difficult—come take a look."

After saying that, he laid down ten cards neatly on the counter, causing Joke to narrow his eyes at those cards that had adorable cartoon images along with “C-E” written at the top, which he expected to stand for “Copper E-Rank”. Joke picked up one of the cards before shaking it gently until its information window appeared before him.

It appeared like these cards were only for quests inside of Arcadia. The only visible difference it had from a normal quest card was that they also constrained illustrations. For instance, the card in his hands contained an adorable picture of a boy raising his sword and chasing down a blue slime.

The quest itself seemed to not be that difficult, but its reward was far inferior to the ones he bought. The given monetary reward was in “gold”, Arcadia’s currency that could not be used in the outside world.

“So, how many points for ranking up will I get upon a quest’s completion?” Joke asked.

"That depends on the difficulty of the quest as well." Thomas then pointed at the quest that Joke was looking at. “For example, this quest states that if you will get fifty gold when completed, right? And the EXP written on the back is the number of points to be added to your rank. The experience bar for a Copper E-Rank is at a total of three hundred fifty points.”

Joke nodded understandably. The quests’ levels of difficulty were not a complicated matter. Most of the rewarded EXP for each quest was around fifty to eighty points, which meant that it would be enough to move up to a D-Rank by completing only six or seven quests.

"And do you know about the Daily Quests, young man?"

"Daily Quests?"

Just by seeing that confused look on his face, Thomas was confirmed that he was a fresh beginner without a single clue.

“Listen, young man. The quests in Arcadia are usually divided into three main types: a Quest Bar, which are quests that you can receive here at the Quest Center; an Event Quest, which are quests that you can find outside of the Quest Center whether in a dungeon or with other NPCs; and, last but not least, a Daily Quest.”

After speaking, he placed another set of quest cards down on the table for Joke to see. It was a plain white card with no patterns like the other Quest Bar cards that were already on the table. He then handed over one of the quest cards.

“As you can see, these are quests that are randomized daily along with rewards that are also randomized so that it’ll be different each day. These quests need to be completed daily, and the given rewards will be slightly better than the Bar Quests, including a lot higher experience points. You can accept these quests from your daily check-in window or the application on your mobile phone that you used to register your ID card with.”

"Oh...."

Somehow, Joke had already seen the word "Quests" in his downloaded AOS-DATA application as he could sync the phone that the application was on to his ID slot to constantly transfer data back and forth between the two devices. It was very convenient indeed.

“In this case, wouldn’t it be wiser for me to carry out only the Daily Quests instead of the Bar Quests as it can be accepted anywhere like this?” Joke asked.

"Oh, you can only take on three Daily Quests a day. You need to wait past midnight until the next set of quests is renewed.”

"Oh..." Joker nodded.

“Apart from that, there are also Weekly Quests and Monthly Quests. Their expiration date is as the name suggests. Plus, they even give out better rewards.”

“There are quests on a weekly and monthly basis as well?"

Joke raised his eyebrows as he opened the information window. Once his finger fell on the word “Quests”, he then saw a table of quests listed out. There appeared to be various Daily Quests for him to choose from, while the system would select the Weekly and Monthly Quests for him, which he could start at any time he wanted.

“The system’s way too complicated, this is only just a part about quests.” Joke sighed, realizing that there was still a long way for him to go. “I’ll take the Bar Quest, then. So, what’s the maximum amount of quests we can take?”

"Only five quests at a time, young man." Thomas held up five fingers. “There are no limits to the number of times you can complete a Bar Quest, but you can only register for five of them at a time. There is no cost to an E-level quest, you can go ahead and take them. Once you complete the quest, you have to come here only to receive your rewards... Remember, you can only receive rewards from the same place you accept that quest from.”

"I understand."

Joker nodded before grabbing the whole pile of quests to look at each of them in detail again, to which Joke selected only the easier quests with high EXP reward as he wanted to quickly climb up the ranks.

“I’ll take these five quests, then.”

"Let's see..." Thomas took the five cards and spread them out. "Defeat Wild Boar, defeat Pokko, collect smocking mushrooms, collect Valerian blossoms, and collect Blue Herbs—I see. You’re all set, young boy.”

The chiseled man smiled before pressing his finger down on the cards like he was stamping down his fingerprints until a “ringgg!” sounded from those cards, which probably was a signal that the registration had been completed. Thomas then handed back those cards to Joke soon after.

"Here you go, young man. I've completed all of the registration for these Copper E-rank quests. Fortunately, there isn't a time limit for these quests, so you can go easy on your first quest. My warning for novices would be to not wander into strange areas blindly—carefully check information about the monsters or else you might game over and be transported back to town.”

"Thank you."

Joker nodded at the warning before receiving all of the quest cards. In the blink of an eye, every quest disintegrated into a mist and shot straight into his body. His iron-colored orbs opened wide as he was a little surprised. He then saw that all of those five quests had already appeared on the list of his ongoing quests on the information window.

“That’s everything, right?”

“Yeah. Go for it, young man!” he smiled broadly. “Oh, there’s another thing. You see that board people are crowing around over there?”

Thomas then pointed to a large board with chalk writings on the other side, which was the corner with the largest crowd that caught Joke’s eyes since he set foot into this place.

"What about it?" Joke asked.

“That’s the quest board. Random quests will randomly appear on the board. It’s kind of like the Daily Quests, but the quests are issued from our bar only and you can only accept those quests here. However, these quests are a bit more difficult. It might be a struggle for a copper-rank like you. Let’s wait until you’re an iron-rank before going on with those quests.”

"I understand."

He nodded while leaning over to look at the mentioned quest board, fully aware that the quests there would have a higher pay off than the ones he was doing, or else this bar would probably not be this crowded. Nevertheless, he would still have to leave it for later.

"Okay, then thank you very much for the information and advice."

"Oh, have fun with your quests! And you are always welcome to stop by for a meal at the bar when you’re free!”

Joke simply nodded before finally walking away from the bar’s counter as he glanced over at the dining table where the other summoners were gathering and chatting lively. Foods such as large chicken thighs, soups, or giant steaks were sending off a really mouth-watering smell.

He did not know if eating these foods could make him feel full or if he could actually taste them or not.

But he was sure that if he had the money, that would be one of the things on his to-do list.

"Alright, now I got quests to take on.”

Joke stated after he was finally outside of the Quest Bar. The fresh air caused him to stretch out his sore muscles and breathe the fresh air deeply into his lungs until his iron-colored orbs glanced at the town’s northern gateway.

“Let’s go try out my new deck, then.”
