Chapter 24 - Hunting (2)
Zang Ya didn’t know that someone was talking about him behind his back. Even if he did, he wouldn’t care much.
After Zang Ya led his group out of the city gate, they rode for another half an hour before arriving at a dense mountain ridge.
The attendants greeted the guards on the mountain ridge and explained the origin of their group. After opening the fence, they rode in.
In less than an hour, everyone arrived in a deep forest and dark valley.
Along the way, Zang Ya hunted a wild boar, and the prey was hung on the horse of his guard.
As they continued to move forward, Zang Ya suddenly waved to stop.
Before anyone could react, Zang Ya quickly drew his bow and arrow and shot in one direction, followed by a scream.
The face of Qing Ri, who was following Zang Ya, changed drastically. He frowned in dissatisfaction and said, “This is the young master’s private property. Outsiders are not allowed to enter. How come there is still someone here?”
When Qing Ri asked, the attendant who was already alert followed the sound and chased after it, then dragged a thin young man back. There was an arrow stuck in his calf, which looked like the one Zang Ya had shot just now.
The young man also carried a backpack, with a rabbit, a pheasant, and a lot of fungi inside.
As soon as Qing Ri saw the young man, he pulled out his sword, put it on his neck, and scolded him sternly: “You are so brave, don’t you know who owns this forest farm? How dare you come in and steal and hunt privately! Since you were caught by us, you can’t leave today.”
Zang Ya just glanced at the young man, then looked away and prepared to go deeper, leaving the young man to Qing Ri.
The young man, already shocked and scared when he was caught, felt there was no hope for his survival upon hearing the stern scolding. His strong survival instinct kicked in. Just before Qing Ri’s sword was about to end his life, he shouted urgently, “I have a hundred-year-old ginseng. Please let me go!”
Qing Ri’s hand holding the sword paused, but there was still a bit of disdain on his face. “Do you think that thing can buy your life? Or do you think you really have that thing? If you have it, you wouldn’t be sneaking and stealing in here, wouldn’t you?”
The young man’s face was filled with tears, caused by pain and fear. He was unable to stop crying but still choked out, “Sir, it’s true. I wanted to find a good buyer, so I kept it at home and didn’t sell it. I’m just a cheap life, but the hundred-year-old ginseng is worth thousands of golds. Naturally, it’s worth more than my life. Besides, ginseng is a good thing. I heard that if people eat it for a long time, it can nourish the body and prolong life. Mine is a century-old ginseng. Even a weak patient will definitely be in good health if he eats it.”
The sound of horse hooves walking forward paused. Zang Ya, sitting on his horse, looked at the crying young man with a bit of consideration in his eyes. He thought the young man’s eyebrows seemed somewhat similar to An Yun’s, though slightly uglier.
Sure enough, Zang Ya thought, no matter who he compared with, An Yun was the most beautiful.
Qing Ri didn’t want to hear more of the young man’s pleas and wanted to execute him on the spot. However, he heard a plain question coming from behind him: “Do you really have that hundred-year-old ginseng?”
Listening to this voice, Qing Ri knew his young master was interested. Immediately, he put away his sword.
When the young man saw this, he understood that the person on the horse was the one who could decide his fate. He turned to look at Zang Ya and said with an earnest expression, “Yes, I really have it. If I dare deceive you, sir, you can kill me at any time.”
Zang Ya tilted his head and stared at him for a while without saying anything.
No one present dared to speak, waiting quietly for Zang Ya’s next order.
After a moment, Zang Ya sneered, “Where is it?”
The young man clenched his fists, and finally, gritted his teeth and said, “In my house.”
Zang Ya raised his chin and said to the guard next to Qing Ri, “Go and get it with him. If the thing is a fake, kill him. If it’s real, let him go.”
“Yes,” the guard replied and dragged the young man away.
Zang Ya looked at the young man who was dragged in a state of embarrassment; even the wrapping cloth on his head fell off. He suddenly said, “Before taking him back, take him to the medical clinic to get arrows and apply medicine.”
The attendants who heard Zang Ya’s instructions felt that their young master was being a bit excessive. There was no need for such preferential treatment for unknown stranger. However, they did not dare to talk back to the young master, so they could only agree and leave with the young man.
Watching the guards and the young man leave, Zang Ya continued deeper into the jungle. He come here to find his Xiao Huang and could not afford to waste time on unimportant matters.
This time, Zang Ya did not find his Xiao Huang, which made him feel a little uncomfortable. Even though he hunted many animals along the way, it did not alleviate his disappointment.
This unhappiness lasted until he returned home. While everyone serving him tremblingly, Zang Ya maintained a straight face, telling everyone that he was in a bad mood that day.
It wasn’t until Qing Yue presented Zang Ya with dinner and dessert that his mood started to lift.
Zang Ya looked at the dishes, then at the desserts next to him, raised his eyebrows, and glanced at Qing Yue.
Qing Yue smiled and said, “Young master, this is what An Fulang prepared.”
