After Being Reborn, I Refuse To Be The Holy Son Of The Sect Anymore

Chapter 89:

Chapter 89:

Xiao Yang strode out of the Xiao Family ancestral residence without looking back.

There was nothing left here to make him stay.

In just eight days, the Northern Territory Tournament would begin.

Once it was over, he would sever all ties and be free. Free to roam the skies and seas, bound by nothing.

“Senior Brother…”

“Holy Son…”

Song Qiang and Lin Wangchuan ran after him.

“Go back,” Xiao Yang sighed, glancing at them.

The Law Enforcement Elder was already furious with him. Though the elder wouldn’t dare act against him directly, he would certainly target anyone associated with him. If these two followed him, they would undoubtedly face severe punishment later.

The so-called “fair and impartial” image of the Law Enforcement Elder was just for show. He was not as righteous as he appeared; he weighed benefits and consequences like anyone else.

“But I only want to follow you, Brother Holy Son!” Lin Wangchuan said reluctantly, particularly because his companion, Little White, was still in slumber. Without Xiao Yang around, who else would he have to play with?

“Go back. We’ll meet at the Inquiry Platform on Yuanwu Mountain,” Xiao Yang said, continuing to walk away.

Song Qiang and Lin Wangchuan could only watch as he left.

“Senior Brother, we’ll meet at the Inquiry Platform!” Song Qiang shouted.

“Holy Son, you must come! I’ll be waiting for you!” Lin Wangchuan called out loudly.

Xiao Yang waved a hand without turning around.

He walked toward the city gates. As he passed through, he saw the aftermath of chaos—a city in ruins. Collapsed houses littered the streets. Many people had lost their homes, wandering aimlessly. Others, having lost loved ones, were crying in despair.

All of this was Qin Fei’s doing.

Xiao Yang firmly believed that good and evil would ultimately be repaid. Justice might be delayed, but it was inevitable.

Where should he go now?

Xiao Yang exited Yuanlong City and stood outside the city gates, gazing up at the sky. The midday sun shone brightly.

He needed to think carefully about his next steps.

Qin Fei would undoubtedly try every possible means to retaliate. Xiao Yang had thoroughly angered him by rendering him a eunuch, effectively turning Qin Fei into “sisters” with Jiang Ting. Now Qin Fei could only look at the beautiful and delicate Jiang Ting, never daring to act on his desires.

At this moment, Qin Fei must be wishing to tear him to pieces.

Moreover, Qin Fei would certainly send more experts from the Demon Sect to hunt him down.

But Xiao Yang wasn’t one to be easily bullied.

No one yet knew that he had broken through to the Spirit Martial Realm. That was his ace in the hole. Still, he had to be vigilant—open attacks were easy to counter, but hidden schemes were dangerous.

Qin Fei’s next move would likely involve Black Wind City, the next stop after Yuanlong City. Qin Fei wouldn’t miss an opportunity to cause trouble there.

In his previous life, Xiao Yang had suffered greatly on his journey to the Yuanwu Immortal Domain because of Qin Fei. He had been falsely accused of standing by and doing nothing, colluding with demonic forces. Meanwhile, Qin Fei had painted himself as a self-sacrificing hero, saving Jiang Ting and earning her favor. He also saved many fellow disciples, winning their gratitude and admiration.

Qin Fei had built his reputation by stepping on Xiao Yang, leaving Xiao Yang’s reputation in tatters.

If not for his determination to win first place in the Northern Territory Tournament, earning immense resources for the sect and securing the Azure Sun Sword Sect’s place as the top sect in the Northern Territory, he wouldn’t even have been able to return to the sect.

But in this life, Xiao Yang had no intention of falling into Qin Fei’s trap. This time, he would leave the group. Let’s see how Qin Fei would frame him or play the hero without him.

“Hey, isn’t that Brother Xiao? What are you doing here?” A voice suddenly called out.

Xiao Yang turned to see someone striding out of the city.

“Chu Guiyuan?” Xiao Yang was surprised. This man was still in Yuanlong City?

The tournament was only eight days away, yet the Holy Son of the Guiyuan Martial Sect was still lingering here?

“Eh?” Xiao Yang noticed that Chu Guiyuan and his companions, including Chu Xiao, bore various injuries.

Chu Xiao’s left arm was bandaged and hung across his chest, clearly badly injured. Another of his junior brothers had his hair and eyebrows completely burned off, his skin charred red like a roasted pig. The third had frost covering one side of his face, his skin pale and lifeless. One of his eyes was gray and cloudy, clearly blind.

Chu Guiyuan himself had two swollen lumps on his forehead, resembling budding horns.

“Brother Chu, did you grow horns?” Xiao Yang couldn’t help but laugh at the sight.

Chu Guiyuan, a Holy Son with extraordinary cultivation, looked utterly disheveled.

“Uh… Haha. Brother Xiao, are you interested in joining me for a trip into the mountains?” Chu Guiyuan said awkwardly.

Such humiliation was not something he wanted others to know about.

“Holy Son, this…” Chu Xiao frowned, trying to speak.

“Hm?” Chu Guiyuan interrupted sharply.

“What’s the matter, Brother Chu? Found something interesting for me?” Xiao Yang smiled, intrigued.

There was no camaraderie between them; Xiao Yang had even killed members of Chu Guiyuan’s sect, including the father and brother of his partner Liu Ruxian. The two were practically enemies.

“The Fire Qilin Beast. I only need its pelt for armor. If we join forces to kill it, the inner core will be yours. What do you say?” Chu Guiyuan proposed without hesitation.

“What?” Xiao Yang was shocked. The Fire Qilin Beast in the Fire Spirit Vein was still alive?

The spirit vein had nearly been destroyed by Qin Fei’s machinations. Though the eruption had been absorbed by the Lunar Dragon Pearl, Xiao Yang hadn’t expected the ninth-level beast to survive.

“You’re being awfully generous,” Xiao Yang said, his smile laced with suspicion.

“Brother Xiao, with your cultivation, do you think I’d dare trick you?” Chu Guiyuan laughed dismissively.

“If you could kill it alone, you wouldn’t need me. Am I right?” Xiao Yang smirked knowingly.

“Ha… Nothing escapes Brother Xiao’s sharp eyes. I’ve already fought the beast and suffered a miserable defeat. With your help, we’ll surely succeed,” Chu Guiyuan admitted, forcing a smile.

His companions, however, looked uneasy.

Xiao Yang noted their expressions. Something about this smelled fishy.

“Fine. Let’s see what you’re up to,” Xiao Yang thought, deciding to play along.

The Fire Qilin’s core was indeed a treasure, especially valuable to his cultivation.

“Alright, lead the way,” Xiao Yang agreed.

“Excellent! Let’s go!” Chu Guiyuan exclaimed, taking to the skies toward the northern mountains.

Xiao Yang followed, flying on his sword.

The northern mountains bore the scars of the recent disaster. Corpses of birds and beasts littered the landscape.

Scavengers roamed the area, hoping to find remnants of the vein’s treasures. Though much had been absorbed by the Lunar Dragon Pearl, some spirit stones, crystals, and herbs had been scattered across the mountains.

Soon, they arrived at a valley and approached a dark cave. Its gaping mouth looked like a giant beast ready to devour anyone who dared approach.

“The Fire Qilin is in this area. It’s cunning, with multiple exits nearby. Brother Xiao, you take this cave, and we’ll search the others. Whoever finds it will draw it out, and we’ll fight it together,” Chu Guiyuan said, leading his group toward another cave.

Xiao Yang examined the cave entrance as a cold wind gusted out, carrying a frosty chill.

“Hm?” Something felt off.

The Fire Qilin was a fire-elemental beast. Why was there icy wind coming from the cave?

“So, this is your game?” Xiao Yang smirked.

He stepped into the darkness, ready to uncover Chu Guiyuan’s scheme.

“Ha! Xiao Yang, you’re supposed to be the Holy Son of the Azure Sun Sword Sect, yet you’re this gullible? What a fool,” Chu Guiyuan sneered, watching Xiao Yang disappear into the cave.
