After Abandoning the Ruthless Dao Swordmaster

Chapter 12

Landing in front of Wu Su, Pei Juizhi looked up and saw her pale lips.

Wu Su’s eyes were very calm, like a clear pool of water without a single ripple.

Under her eyelashes, the strongly contrasting white and black reflected the sunlight, blending into a strange, pure colour.

Pei Jiuzhi remembered these eyes.

He lowered his head and pecked at Wu Su’s fingers lying on the table.

Wu Su’s fingertips trembled, feeling a little itchy.

“Your Highness, what’s the matter?” Wu Su asked softly.

Today, Pei Jiuzhi’s body had finally left the formation of the Heaven-Worshipping Ceremony, and arrived outside Prince Jing’s Mansion. He planned to use the recently gained power from the Immortal Island to repair the cracked seal.

The spiritual energy coming from the Immortal Island is rich and pure. After being filtered by  by the Heaven-Worshipping Ceremony, this energy has many uses.

If a region is plagued by drought, this spiritual energy can be turned into rain to moisten the earth.

If there is a place that is difficult to reach, it can move mountains and fill in the sea, carve out water systems, and connect rivers.

If there are evil spirits causing chaos, this energy can be turned into a sword to kill them, protecting the mortals in safety.

It just so happened that before the Heaven-Worshipping Ceremony had been completed, there was a problem with the seal in Yundu. Conveniently, some of the spiritual energy gathered from the Immortal Island could be used to fix it.

As for the culprit who broke the seal, he would have to investigate slowly.

Pei Jiuzhi knew that this matter was aimed at him.

There was no special reason that he had come to look for Wu Su today. He simply wanted to see her.

Wu Su felt that this Little Highness must really be bored.

She had already told him all the information she knew, so why did he come in search of her?

She looked at him and blinked.

Pei Jiuzhi hopped off the table, and turned into his human form.

He asked abruptly: “What are you doing?”

What else can Wu Su do? She has not been short of yin and yang energy recently, so she stayed in the room to recuperate.

She lowered her head, lying it on the desk sadly, and replied to Pei Jiuzhi, “Your Highness, I am in a daze.”

Pei Jiuzhi glanced at her almost empty desk.

Only a handful of old letters lay on the corner of the table. There was no sign of liveliness.

“The injury is not healed yet?” Pei Jiuzhi asked.

“It’ll be fine in a few days.” Wu Su’s voice was soft and gentle, “I’ll go back to work then.”

“Ok.” Pei Jiuzhi observed her as he replied.

Wu Su’s fingers drifted over the letters on the table. She randomly picked up a letter from the stack and began to read through it.

“Is this your letter?” Although Pei Jiuzhi asked this question, his eyes politely avoided the contents of the letter.

“It belongs to someone else.” In this letter, Chen Wu had written that her two “lovely” friends had given her a birthday gift.

In reality, Chen Wu had prepared gifts for her roommates for several years, but they had never given her anything.

Like all the others, this letter is also full of false fantasies, the unattainable wishes from Chen Wu’s small life.

Since Wu Su didn’t have a birthday, any day could be used as her birthday.

She began thinking of various methods she could use to receive a gift from Wei Li or Lin Meng.

After pondering for a long time, she turned her head and found Pei Jiuzhi still standing behind her.

Little Highness, why aren’t you leaving yet?

Wu Su tilted her head to face Pei Jiuzhi, “Your Highness, don’t you have important business to take care of?”

“I am attending to it.” Pei Jiuzhi replied. At this moment, his real body was still repairing the cracks in Yundu’s seal.

“Do you want to go take a look? Someone outside the mansion is using the aura of the Immortal Island.” Pei Jiuzhi wanted to invite Wu Su to observe him repairing the seal.

When Wu Su heard this, she was scared to death. The Immortal Island’s spiritual energy would reveal that she was a demon. What could she do if she was discovered, besides be killed on the spot?

She shook her head.

“Your body still hurts?”

Since the Little Highness gave her a way out, Wu Su followed along, and nodded her head.

Pei Jiuzhi looked around, and picked up the jar of ointment: “I’ll help you with the medicine.”

Wu Su looked at him with some confusion: “Your Highness, why?”

“No reason.” Pei Jiuzhi untied the bandage on her wrist.

He recognized her, but she didn’t want to admit it. He didn’t want to scare her.

Wu Su avoided his touch, putting her hands behind her back, and just stared at him blankly.

“Your Highness, I am the servant here.” Wu Su reminded him of her identity.

As a little monster hiding in the human world, she can only survive by being careful with her words and actions.

She didn’t want to become entangled with a noble person such as His Highness.

“Hand.” Pei Jiuzhi looked into her eyes and spoke firmly.

“…Yes.” Wu Su reluctantly extended her hand.

Pei Juizhi’s once pure white sleeves were still marked with blood from her injuries.

Although this talisman could transform into birds and beasts, it would remain stained until the moment its energy was exhausted.

Even though Wu Su knew that his current body was actually a transformed talisman, the sight of the bright red smudges on his sleeves made her feel slightly guilty.

“I’ll take you outside to see. It’s very lively outside Prince Jing’s Mansion.” Pei Jiuzhi said.

As soon as they heard that the spiritual energy from the formation for the Heaven-Worshipping Ceremony was going to be used outside Prince Jing’s Mansion, all the citizens of Yundu wanted to come and watch.

Although they knew that this matter might be related to an evil demon, they were more curious to see His Highness the  Ninth Prince, who had left Yundu for more than ten years.

On the day he was found by Emperor Yundu, the sky was engulfed in chaos, and day and night were reversed.

This scene has already become a popular story, and now even Pei Jiuzhi himself has become legendary.

Wu Su didn’t dare to disobey a nobleman, so she just nodded.

Pei Jiuzhi re-wrapped her injured wrists in new bandages.

Perhaps due to the doctor’s previous comments, this time he focused on the task even more carefully.

Pei Jiuzhi couldn’t remember ever being injured himself. He knew some basic treatments for injuries from reading books.

His previous life was peaceful and smooth, and it was normal for him to have no experience in this area.

When he was finished, Wu Su stood up, and Pei Jiuzhi turned into the blue bird and flew up to land on her shoulder.

Her eyes once again fell on his blood-stained wings.  “Can’t you wipe it away?”.

Pei Jiuzhi shook his head.

Wu Su put on the robe she wore when going out, the plain white fabric falling down to her ankles. “I’m sorry.”

Demon blood must be considered very dirty by humans.

Humans don’t like demons, and demons hate humans. The two are incompatible.

Wu Su is unsure whether she is really a demon or not, because she doesn’t have any positive or negative emotions towards humans.

But since she’s not human, she must be something unnatural.

All races are exclusive, and suspicious of others. She knows she will never truly belong in the human world.

Walking outside, the sun was shining brightly, and the weather was clear and comfortable.

The area around Prince Jing’s Mansion was quiet and serene. Many of the servants had taken advantage of the fact that the mansion was close to the river, sneaking out to watch His Highness the Ninth Prince preside over the formation.

But Wu Su’s yard was not quiet.

Wei Li sat on the swing in the yard, her head lowered, sobbing uncontrollably.

On her knees, there was a small dowry box with a few pieces of delicate jewellery inside.

“I’ll sell these to treat A’Cun’s injuries. I don’t know if they will be enough.”

Wei Li rubbed her eyes and cried even harder: “A’Cun was beaten so badly. I feel sorry for him.”

Lin Meng on the side comforted her repeatedly, but there was already a hint of impatience in her eyes.

She didn’t want to stay here to coax a crying young lady, she also wanted to go outside and watch the excitement.

It was understandable for Wei Li to cry a little, but if she kept crying, it would start to become annoying.

Hearing the sound of Wu Su’s door opening, Wei Li suddenly raised her head. She saw a small blue bird sitting on Wu Su’s shoulder.

— She saw this blue bird last time. Is this Wu Su’s pet?

Wei Li wiped her tears, unable to think clearly.

She stared at Wu Su, struggling with her words for a long time before finally speaking.

“Wu Su, I know someone came to the City Guard’s to rescue you. That person must have a lot of influence in the City Guard.”

Wei Li felt ashamed to ask Wu Su for help, but for A’Cun, she had no choice.

“Please beg him for me, let A’Cun live. He is about to die after being struck with forty lashes. Even once he gets better, there are still twenty more lashes waiting for him…”

“Whatever conditions you have, just say it.” Wei Li’s voice was trembling, “Anything you want, as long as you get the message to that person.”

Wu Su answered simply: “Okay.”

“What-” Wei Li was surprised.

If Wei Li’s condition was just “let him hear the message”, then it has already been fulfilled.  Since this task has technically been completed, it is not unreasonable to ask Wei Li for something in return.

“What do you want me to do?” Wei Li asked.

Wu Su took this opportunity to make one of Chen Wu’s wishes come true.

“Give me a gift.” Wu Su bluntly stated her request. “Today is my birthday.”

The blue bird perched on her shoulder was stunned for a moment.

Wei Li didn’t expect that Wu Su would really dare to make a request. She looked down at the box in front of her. These pieces of jewellery were so expensive that she couldn’t even bear to wear them.

She took out the most worthless hairpin and handed it to Wu Su.

Wu Su didn’t care which piece was chosen.  She was about to accept the offered hairpin, but Pei Jiuzhi fluttered his wings and flew over to the jewellery box. He directly picked up one of the most pleasing items.

It was a pair of pearl earrings, in a style somewhat similar to the pair issued to the servants of the mansion.

Wu Su looked at the shiny pearls and blinked. She was a little bit afraid of pearl earrings now.

Feeling guilty, she immediately thought of the illusion-covered fish eyes and cherry stems that she had turned in.

Of all the pieces, this was the one the Little Highness had chosen for her.

Of course, Wu Su did not dare to question his choice, and the pair of pearl earrings fell into her hand.

“How about this one?”

Wei Li’s jaw tightened in anger. This pair of earrings appeared ordinary, but in fact they were the most expensive ornaments in the collection.

But for A’Cun, she could only agree with Wu Su.

“Take it.” Wei Li responded with a sob.

Lin Meng sitting beside her couldn’t help but object. “Wu Su, aren’t you being too greedy?”

This is not a question of whether Wu Su is greedy or not, she was only following the Little Highness’ decision.

Wu Su gently picked up the blue bird and placed it back on her shoulder.

She tilted her head slightly and glanced at Lin Meng.

“Lin Meng, if he likes it, then it must be this one.” Wu Su told the truth.

Once again, two small red patches appeared on the little bird’s cheeks.

Wu Su walked out of the yard carrying the pearl earrings.

Once they were outside the West Garden, Wu Su wanted to put the precious earrings into her purse.

But when she opened her hand, Pei Jiuzhi flew down and picked up a pearl.

His wings stirred up a gust of wind next to Wu Su’s ears, and Wu Su felt the cold pearl being pressed against her earlobe.

Oh, he even wants her to wear it, this troublesome Little Highness.

Wu Su patiently took the pearl earrings, but her fingertips were trembling.

Just wear it.

Wu Su faced the pool in the garden, where her figure was vaguely reflected.

She turned her head sideways, and her hair flowed like watery ink, drawing a graceful arc on her white neck.

Wu Su carefully put on the pair of pearl earrings.
