After Abandoning the Ruthless Dao Swordmaster

Chapter 13

Wu Su lowered her head to observe her reflection in the water.

The bright white pearls hanging under her ink-coloured hair reflected the sunlight, shining with brilliant iridescent colours.

Wu Su is usually not concerned about things that happened in the past, but when she encounters something that jogs her memory, she easily recalls what happened.

She now remembers that there was a mouth, with thin pursed lips, that pulled off the pearl earring she had worn that night.

Wu Su’s long eyelashes trembled, but her fair face still appeared indifferent.

The blue bird folded its wings, and quietly observed her.

“Your Highness, is this okay?”

Wu Su turned her head and her eyes fell on the tuft of hair on the blue bird’s head.

Pei Jiuzhi nodded.

When Wu Su exited Prince Jing’s Mansion, she was startled by the lively scene outside.

Today, the normally calm streets were bustling with people coming and going.

Because Prince Jing preferred a peaceful environment, the mansion’s guards stopped the crowd of people a hundred meters away from the gate.

But there were still many noisy voices, most of them shouting to see His Highness the Ninth Prince.

Your Highness the Ninth Prince, but isn’t he right by her side?

Wu Su once again looked at the blue bird perched on her shoulder with some confusion.

Pei Jiuzhi looked at her intently. Now that the talisman had turned into a bird, he could not speak or answer Wu Su’s questions.

Wu Su stared at him for some time before she realized this.

“Your Highness, it turns out you are presiding over the formation of the Heaven-Worshipping Ceremony?” Wu Su asked softly.

The blue bird’s head nodded.

Wu Su decided that since this Little Highness is still connected to the Immortal Island and can control spiritual energy, she should stay away from him.

She couldn’t figure out why he had been following her.

Is it because he felt apologetic that she had been mistakenly arrested by the City Guard?

But her injury is almost healed.

Wu Su raised her hand to her shoulder subconsciously, lightly touching the head of the blue bird.

Pei Jiuzhi pecked her fingertips.

Wu Su was surprised for a moment, and then realised that her actions had probably offended him.

“Your Highness, I’m sorry.” Wu Su’s voice was light, “Let’s go to watch.”

She squeezed into the crowd. Someone bumped into her already injured shoulder, which hurt a little.

Wu Su frowned slightly. The blue bird had already jumped up from her shoulder, and flew away from the crowd.

When she saw the blue bird flying away, she breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that the Little Highness was finally gone.

Wu Su turned around and struggled to squeeze herself back out of the crowd, intending to return to her courtyard to rest.

A moment later, a City Guard wearing silver armour walked out of the crowd.

There was a blue bird flying in front of him. After the last accident, the City Guards knew that this blue bird was Pei Jiuzhi and did not dare to ignore it.

When the cityfolk saw the Guard, they all gave way. The Guard approached Wu Su, and followed Pei Jiuzhi’s instructions to protect her as she moved forward.

Pei Jiuzhi landed on Wu Su’s shoulder again, and Wu Su followed the City Guard with a blank expression. Now, she wouldn’t get hurt.

Arriving at the arch bridge, Wu Su saw a dazzling golden light, emitted by the abundant spiritual energy of the Immortal Island.

Facing the light, she squinted her eyes and could faintly make out seven figures inside the golden glow, arranged like a constellation. They were suspended in the sky, and their appearance could not be seen clearly.

But Wu Su coils easily recognize the white-clothed man who occupied the lead position in charge of the formation.

He was indeed the Little Highness, with the same white robes and black hair, the same  bright gold celestial embroidery on the sleeves.

Pei Jiuzhi was far away from her, hanging high in the sky, like the dazzling sun and moon, noble and lonely, unstained by dust and mud.

Wu Su found that the blue bird that had landed on her shoulder had folded its wings and lowered its head, seemingly unconscious.

It seems that His Highness is currently concentrating on transforming the spiritual energy coming from the Immortal Island, and is no longer using his spiritual consciousness to control this talisman bird.

Wu Su found a pier by the river and sat down. She raised her eyes and quietly watched the figure of Pei Jiuzhi in the sky.

The City Guard, who was still standing next to her, looked down at her with some doubts. He knew that Wu Su had been unjustly taken to the City Guard’s black prison.

Later, Pei Jiuzhi personally came to release her. Because of this incident, Fu Zhou, the original leader of City Guard, was dismissed from his post.

At this time, the blue bird controlled by His Highness the Ninth Prince was actually sitting on her shoulder so intimately.

But looking at her sitting quietly on the pier, there is nothing outstanding about this girl. Because of her injuries, her face still looks fragile and pale.

As far as the City Guard knew, no one had ever heard of His Highness the Ninth Prince taking the initiative to get close to anyone. Even towards his brothers and sisters, he still maintained a distant politeness and respect.

Wu Su grew tired of watching, and the pearl on her earlobe swayed as her head tilted lazily.

She noticed that the spiritual energy drawn out from the formation began to form into golden threads, twining together to form a net, spreading out to cover the bottom of the canal.

Suddenly, the water surged, the boats in the distance on the river swayed, and the crowd screamed.

The golden net of spiritual energy began to carefully wrap around the seal at the bottom of the river, repairing the damage. As for the absconding monster, they would have to go after it and hunt it down.

Wu Su was not afraid of the awe-inspiring golden light that fell on her body. Even though she was a demon, she didn’t feel any discomfort.

To be honest, Wu Su herself didn’t know exactly what she was.

But in her mind, if she wasn’t a human, she must be a demon.

After some time had passed, the light above the formation gradually began to fade, indicating that the seal was nearly finished being repaired. The cityfolk who had been watching in the distance pushed forward even more excitedly.

This time, even the City Guards couldn’t discourage them.

Wu Su was caught up in the crowd, a little disoriented. She heard the heated discussions of the people surrounding her.

“Every time the formation of the Heaven-Worshipping Ceremony is completed, the formation will turn the remaining energy into fireworks. The fuse will fall into the hands of a random person, and the blessed fireworks will explode in his hand.”

“There are so many people today, but I don’t know if the fireworks fuse will fall into my hands. This is a great honor.”

“This formation has been used so many times, why are you still joining in the fun? Is this blessing so rare?”

“But this is the formation presided over by His Highness Ninth Prince. If the fireworks can fall in front of me, it will be a blessing in my life.”

Wu Su listened to them and vaguely understood why they were so excited.

So, after the blessing fireworks explode at the end of the formation, everyone present will gain a small amount of energy.

But the fireworks that only bloom in front of a specific person are a very lucky and happy thing.

Wu Su squeezed into the crowd and stood on tiptoe to watch. She wanted to see whose hands the fireworks ended up in.

She saw the formation in the sky gradually fade away, and the person in charge of the formation disappeared above the clouds.

The remaining spiritual energy slowly gathered in the air, forming a dazzling golden lotus.

This golden lotus flew down from the clouds and passed indifferently over the heads of the crowd.

One person wanted to jump up and reach it, stretching their arms excitedly, but its movement was erratic, and the radiant flower drifted past them.

Wu Su’s shoulder hurt, and several people standing around her began to push and shove, trying to touch the golden lotus.

She felt she had seen enough and it was time to leave.

So she turned her back and squeezed out of the crowd with difficulty, trying to leave the rowdy spectators behind.

She suddenly felt that her eyes were full of light, momentarily blinding her.

After adapting to the warm light, she opened her eyes, and saw that the golden lotus everyone was chasing had landed in front of her.

The cityfolk on either side respectfully stepped back a little.

Wu Su stretched out her hand subconsciously, and the golden lotus landed on her pale fingertips.

The moment she touched the golden lotus, a cluster of fireworks more intense than sunlight exploded.

The scattered spiritual energy fell along with the light spots of the fireworks, bringing blessings to all the common people present.

Some people with minor injuries were healed instantly by this spiritual energy.

Some people could feel their fatigue from travelling disappear.

Some people also gained a moment of happiness, and smiles lit up their gloomy faces for several days.

But Wu Su stood in the centre of the exploding fireworks, with the dazzling flecks of light falling around her, unable to absorb a single bit of spiritual energy.

The blue bird squatting on her shoulder has come to life again, intently watching Wu Su’s black and white eyes.

Despite receiving such a lucky honour, her face remained calm and indifferent.

At the moment when the fireworks exploded, Wu Su felt that a very small emotion suddenly appeared in her heart, but like the fireworks, it also dissipated in an instant.

The spark of joy that filled her heart for a moment made the corners of her lips curl up slightly.

“Your Highness, thank you.”

Of course Pei Jiuzhi gave the fireworks and golden lotus to Wu Su on purpose.

He was high in the clouds, but he could see her face clearly.

She raised her head towards the sky, her eyes were like still water in a deep pool, calm and gentle.

Her dark hair was hanging down, and some hair strands were slightly raised by the wind, passing by the bright pearls swaying beside her ears.

Everyone around her cast envious glances at Wu Su. They didn’t expect this ordinary girl to be so lucky.

Wu Su stood in place as if frozen as the crowd dispersed around her. Eventually, she turned and walked back towards Prince Jing’s Mansion.

She returned to the courtyard of her residence. Wei Li and Lin Meng were nowhere to be seen.

Wu Su entered her room, and closed the door.  The blue bird on her shoulder returned to its human form.

Pei Jiuzhi stood in front of Wu Su and looked at her quietly.

“Today is your birthday.” He actually remembered this.

Wu Su thought that this was all nonsense. She had no birthday, and she didn’t even know when she was born.

“June twenty-seven, I’ll remember it.” Pei Jiuzhi said.

Wu Su looked at him, unable to tell the truth, so she could only nod blankly.

“I’m still in charge of the formation. I can’t get away and I can’t give you anything.”

An illusion in the shape of a small golden lotus appeared on Pei Jiuzhi’s fingertips: “So, I’ll give you this.”

This represents the luckiest blessing. Among thousands of people, he chose her.

But Wu Su could not collect any benefit from the blessing.

She responded: “Your Highness is so kind.”

“Well…” Pei Jiuzhi stared at her injured shoulder and bandaged wrist.

After a long time, he hesitated and asked: “So, after receiving the spiritual energy from the formation, are you feeling better?”

Wu Su was shocked. She could not absorb the pure spiritual energy at all, and it was all absorbed by the cityfolk around her.

Of course there was no change in her body.

But at this time, Pei Jiuzhi had lowered his head and taken her hand.

With a flick of his fingers, he untied the bandage on her wrist.
