Adventure Time : A True Journey

Chapter 38: 37. The thoughts of Bonnie and a game to hide a trauma

**Location: Candy Kingdom **

POV: Bonnibel Bubblegum

It was a special day, special because something important was going to happen. This day was special because a torch was finally going to be passed from one great hero to another.

From the legendary hero Billy to a new, younger hero!

Now that she thought about it, it was quite sad that the great Hero Billy was retiring. However, Bonnie did not let that trouble her too much. She was old enough that such things became increasingly easy for her to manage.

She was happy that Billy was satisfied with his decision to retire. Not many heroes lived long enough to get that chance...

Her entrance to the gathering was spectacular, and by the cheers and murmurs of awe from her people, Bonnie felt equally satisfied and wore a confident smile.

She gave Lady a quick thank you and moved forward to the microphone. Her gait was strong and steady, something she had grown used to throughout her life. Everything would go as she wanted and when she wanted. That was how Bonnie believed things were supposed to go.

Her eyes wandered over the gathered crowd, taking in all her people at once. Their expectations, their joy at seeing her, their reverence for her—all of it brought her satisfaction. After all, Bonnie was their creator.

Her gaze finally landed on a peculiar pair. Peculiar not because of their oddness relative to the land of Ooo, but because she had not seen them around before.

The pair consisted of a yellow dog and a strange young boy. Strange in the sense that he lacked any similarity to the local species in the land of Ooo. Bonnie was certain she had never encountered anyone like him.

She tried to search her memory for any clues, the child catching her attention for reasons she could not explain. It was not just his unusual appearance; there was something more intriguing about him.

Bonnie decided to proceed with her speech, but the curiosity lingered as a strange constant thought at the back of her mind.

It was this same curiosity that caused her eyes to wander back toward the boy, and this time, their gazes met—blue meeting pink.

With her experience as a princess dealing with different individuals, Bonnie sensed an odd attraction in that blue gaze. It was a certain pull that felt strange for her. She could see warmth, determination, and another, even more intense emotion—so intense that she had to quickly look away and hide behind her perfect facade.

"What was that?" Bonnie asked herself, her heart beating furiously for some reason. But she quickly regained her composure.

Determined to finish her speech and return to her lab, she reminded herself that she had to conduct tests and ensure everything was okay with herself. She would not let this unexpected feeling interfere with her responsibilities as ruler of her kingdom and to her people.

The speech went well, which she was sure of, although she tried as best she could to keep her gaze from drifting back to the pair of blue eyes that were always watching her.

As she concluded the speech, Bonnie allowed herself one last glance before hurrying off.

At least that was her original intention until she found herself falling from the stage. A mistake caused by one of her Candy people.

It was a terrifying experience; anyone who said otherwise would be lying. Bonnie would never accept it if asked. She let out a silent scream, closed her eyes, and braced herself for the inevitable pain.

But the pain never came. Instead, she felt a sudden warmth enveloping her body, a calming sensation.

Slowly, she opened her eyes, and there they were again—blue eyes meeting her pink ones in a silent stare.

Bonnie found herself losing herself in the blue eyes she stared into; it was like relaxing in the sun on a warm, bright day—a wish to lose herself in the warmth. There was a certain sparkle in those eyes. The shine of emotion, the shine of brilliance and life.

She finally realized what position she was in and quickly concluded that the child who had caught her attention had saved her, just like a hero would—her hero.

"Mein Held," Bonnie found herself saying before she could stop. This immediately made her heart race so strongly that she felt it was the only thing she could hear at that moment. Her body even warmed—though why, she was not sure.

The child finally spoke, and his reply sent a jolt through her—not only because he understood her, but also because of the words themselves: a declaration of love!

Bonnie would not lie. Over the years, countless people, both great and powerful as well as humble peasants, had confessed to her, yet those confessions had never moved her.

It was only once that...

But this time, Bonnie felt a difference. It was strange, she felt happy!

Quickly, she composed herself. She was obviously the older one here and needed to take control of the conversation. Her eloquence led the discussion to a different topic, but that quickly failed.

She felt herself pouting slightly at the way he had responded after she asked for his name. However, Bonnie maintained her composure—at least for a while.

Finn, as she now knew him to be, confessed to her once again, and Bonnie would not lie when she said that her heart skipped a beat.

To her surprise, she jumped from Finn's arms, standing as straight as a rod. She offered quick pleasantry and stalked off, this time not looking back at all. She called Peppermint Butler to her side as she practically ran away.

But if asked, Bonnie would deny that she was running away because of the confession. No! That was not it. How could a confession fluster her, Bonnibel Bubblegum?

Bonnie had managed to snatch a pinch of one of Finn's hairs and was rushing to her lab to conduct some tests on it. The confession had nothing to do with her running away!

**Point of View: Peppermint Butler**

Peppermint Butler, the silent presence always beside Bonnie, had managed to see and overhear the entire conversation despite the distance from the event. His magic allowed him to do such a simple thing.

As he looked at the fleeing Bonnie, a silent plan began to brew in his mind. He smiled slightly and followed the princess.

[Scene change]

"Is it that bird over there?" Finn said confidently, pointing at a bird perched on a tree near them.

"Yes," Jake replied, resigned at this point. Finn was just too good at this game.

The two had decided to play a game of "I Spy" to pass the time as they walked toward the junkyard.

So far, Finn has been doing quite well, even when Jake tried playing little tricks every now and then. Jake was not doing badly, but he was surprised at Finn's skill in this game. Even when Jake attempted to trick him, Finn surprisingly saw through it.

'When had Finn become so perceptive?' Jake wondered, but he did not think much of it.

"It's my turn now," Finn said, glancing around at everything in their vicinity. This game was also strategic; the goal was to make the other player guess incorrectly, so Finn was deliberately looking around to distract Jake from his actual thoughts.

"I spy with my eye, something round and dark," Finn finally announced, a small teasing smile on his face as he faced Jake, his body swaying smoothly as he awaited an answer.

Jake was deep in thought, turning around in a 360-degree circle to take in everything surrounding them. This time, he was determined to win!

In previous rounds, Finn had only won because he had been tricky with his clues, making it hard for Jake to guess correctly. This time, Jake was going to make sure not to let anything escape his attention.

Jake finally wore a confident smirk as he turned to Finn. This time, he would win.

"The answer is... your shoes!" Jake declared confidently, pointing at Finn's dark shoes.

He laughed smugly, anticipating confirmation of his victory.

"Good guess..." Finn said, and Jake's smile widened; this was too easy!

"...but that wasn't the answer." Now, Finn wore a smug smile, causing Jake's laughter to stop abruptly.

How could that be possible? What else could it have been?

Finn, understanding Jake's thoughts, raised his arm and pointed a finger at Jake's face.

"The answer is obviously your nose," Finn said, smiling in satisfaction as he saw the sudden realization dawn on Jake.

Jake's shoulders slumped as he grumbled a bit at missing such a detail.

"Stupid nose," Jake muttered silently.

"Haha." They both soon burst into laughter. The game was surprisingly an effective way to pass the time.

More importantly, it provided a distraction for both Finn and Jake from what had happened earlier.

Suddenly, they exchanged glances, and the memory came flooding back, sending a shiver down their spines.

.... Adventure Time

About thirty minutes into their walk, a mysterious hooded figure suddenly fell from a tree, landing in front of them, unmoving.

The figure wore a dark cloak that completely concealed their body, preventing Finn and Jake from seeing any features.

Finn and Jake exchanged a nod, intending to help the person, when the figure unexpectedly leaped onto their legs in a strange manner that sent chills down their spines.

That should have been their first sign of starting running.

Jake held onto Finn, yet he remained fixed in place, equally curious about what was happening.

The figure turned to look at them, but its features remained hidden beneath the cloak. In a voice that confirmed the figure was male—at least Finn hoped so—the figure asked.

"Hey kids, you want to see something cool?" The voice had a dark and evil tone, which made Finn and Jake wary. Yet, they both could still see curiosity in each other's eyes, so they nodded in response.

This had been their second mistake: not leaving immediately after the figure had spoken.

The person then laughed at a joke, only he understood. With an unsettling proficiency that came from experience, the figure opened his cloak wide and revealed himself completely naked!

"ARRRRRGGGGGGGGGG!" Jake screamed. Finn screamed as well; they both yelled at the grotesque sight in front of them.

"HAHAHAHAHA!" The figure cackled madly, deriving sick pleasure from their horror.

Finn and Jake had encountered a pervert!

Quickly reacting, Jake wrapped the figure back in his cloak and launched him off into the distance.

This incident led the two to play a game of 'I Spy' to distract themselves from the earlier experience.

They promised each other never to speak of this event again.

[Scene change]

Far, far away, in a place Leonardo had been at some point, a figure with striking blonde hair and red ruby eyes was laughing hysterically to herself.

The scenery had significantly changed since Leo had left though. A house, an incredibly beautiful, had appeared in the area.

And within the house, there was a figure in the living room, her clothes comfortable as she sat comfortably with popcorn, her eyes fixed to the TV.

"Goo Leo, I am you're biggest supporter. "She said and waved her hands happily like a loyal fun would.

Yes, this was the goddess of love that had once met Leo and who had taken him to the adventure time world.

The goddess had found enjoyment in watching Leo as he began his journey and the reason for excitement was the fact that her blessing was not going to be a waste on Leo.

"So romantic! "She said as she saw how Leo had saved Bonnie and how so deeply, they looked into each other's eyes.

"I wonder when you will join the stage. "The goddess asked herself thinking about her rebellious daughter who had gone to chase after her love.

"Huhhh, to be young and in love.
