Chapter 61: Chapter 61: System, you wouldn't want to be seen as a useless bum forever, would you?

"Oh, Qingque's back again? Didn't the Master Diviner catch you today?"

"Shush! Don't mention her name. The Master Diviner appears out of nowhere—she might suddenly materialize right here."

As soon as Qingque entered the Card Pavilion, she was greeted by numerous people. It was clear she enjoyed considerable prestige there.

"A regular, huh, Qingque?" Lumina teased.

"Well, I just stop by every day and play a little. You naturally become familiar with the place," Qingque replied.

"Are you sure it's just 'a little' every day?" Lumina teased.

"Haha, don't sweat the details!" Qingque chuckled, scratching her head awkwardly and forcing a sheepish smile to hide her embarrassment.

After greeting the owner, Qingque led Lumina to a private room.

The room was sparsely furnished with a few chairs, a Celestial Jade table, and complimentary snacks and drinks.

"Sister Lumina, please, have a seat!" Qingque personally pulled out a chair for Lumina, gesturing for her to sit.

Lumina accepted without hesitation, plopping down and casually fiddling with the Celestial Jade on the table.

"Sister Lumina, let me teach you the basics first," Qingque said, arranging the jade tiles neatly on the table. She then proceeded to explain the rules of the game and how to achieve a winning hand.

"..."

Qingque's explanation of the basic rules of Celestial Jade was brief and soon concluded.

"Sister Lumina, do you understand now?"

"Yes, I understand," Lumina replied with a faint smile, mentally discarding everything she had just heard.

Not a single word of Qingque's explanation of the game's rules or fundamental concepts had registered with Lumina.

Still, her lack of comprehension wouldn't stop the Saintess from feigning understanding.

"Excellent. In that case, let's move on to a practice match." Qingque gave Lumina an approving glance, pushed open the door to the private room, and left to find her an opponent.

"Hey, System," Lumina asked inwardly after Qingque had left the room. "Do you have anything that can instantly make me a Celestial Jade expert?"

Lumina didn't even know the rules yet; she feared Qingque would mercilessly crush her in the upcoming match.

The Saintess would absolutely not allow herself to be humiliated by a beautiful girl!

If I get crushed in this practice match, what kind of precedent will it set for the future?

[Would you like to activate AI Autoplay?]

Sensing Lumina's thoughts, the System promptly offered a solution.

Lumina's eyes lit up at the suggestion.

"Not entirely useless after all."

Her fondness for the System increased by the tiniest fraction.

Hmm... just a tiny bit.

"Sister Lumina, this is Hu Yi, and this is Hu Er."

Shortly after, Qingque returned with two fox-kin. After a brief introduction to Lumina, they all sat down at the mahjong table and began their game of Celestial Jade.

"AI Autoplay! AI Autoplay! Hurry up!"

As the tiles were shuffled and dealt, Lumina gazed at her hand, unable to discern its quality. She requested to activate AI Autoplay mode.

[Okay, initiating AI Autoplay mode.]

[...]

Watching the loading bar progress across the system screen, Lumina's brow furrowed slightly. The memory of the previous prolonged loading time—when she had loaded multiple Amber Eras—cast a shadow over her confidence.

Fortunately, this time the system cooperated, completing the loading process swiftly.

[Ding! AI Autoplay function fully loaded.]

[Please discard the Nine of Bamboo.]

Lumina: ?

"Isn't AI Autoplay supposed to possess my body? Why is it just giving me commands?" she grumbled as she discarded the Nine of Bamboo.

[Well... it's not like I can actually use your body...]

Even without a voice, Lumina could sense the system's helpless frustration through its typed words.

As an Emanator, Lumina's physical strength was far too great for the System to control directly. The only option left was to use AI Autoplay.

"So you're actually this terrible," Lumina murmured, watching the System's clumsy moves on the screen.

She had initially underestimated the System's usefulness. Now, however, she realized that even a little utility was better than none.

This System was utterly useless—a complete waste of space.

[System: Waaahhh! (T-T)~~]

"Well, you're not entirely useless. At least you can help me play mahjong."

Seeing the System's dejected state, Lumina offered a few words of comfort.

[O(* ̄▽ ̄*)ブ~~]

"Alright, which tile should I play next?" Lumina asked, a smile playing on her lips as she studied her hand.

[Play the eight of bamboo! Then, when the sparrow comes up, immediately pon it!]

Whether it was Lumina's praise or some other reason, the System's enthusiasm had surged.

[ What a child... ] Lumina thought. Though she couldn't see its expression, the text made it clear.

Just a little kid—the kind I could wrap around my finger♪

"Hu!"

Before long, someone had won. Clearly, it wasn't Lumina.

It was Qingque...

"Give me an explanation..."

Lumina's smile was plastered on her face, but inwardly she cursed the System to hell and back.

[AI Autoplay is AI Autoplay, but I never promised you'd win...]

[I guess Qingque's mahjong skills have surpassed the AI...]

Sensing Lumina's overly "friendly" smile, the System felt a twinge of fear.

"Fine, fine, you want to play word games with me?" Lumina hissed through gritted teeth, glaring at the System screen before sighing. "Never mind. When it really counts, I'll have to rely on myself."

With that, unnoticed by the others, a subtle green aura quietly enveloped each of her tiles, imperceptibly altering their order to match her desired sequence.

However, the Saintess soon found herself back at square one.

Having no knowledge of Celestial Jade's rules or basic strategies, she had no idea which sequence would secure her victory.

Lumina paused, turning to her precious System. "In martial arts, I'm slightly better than Qingque," she said, "but in strategy, you're slightly worse."

"How do you think we'd fare against Qingque if we combined our strengths?"

[Something feels off about this.]

As the System listened to Lumina's words, it sensed something was amiss. At first, it thought she was praising it, but upon reflection, it immediately realized the flaw in her logic.

"Don't dwell on such trivial details," Lumina said dismissively.

She was genuinely surprised that this dim-witted System had caught on so quickly. Nevertheless, she glanced at Qingque, who was nearly finished shuffling the tiles, and issued her "command" to the System:

"You tell me the exact tile-drawing sequence for a guaranteed win. I'll manipulate the tiles accordingly."

After delivering this order, Lumina couldn't resist adding a deliberate jab:

"System-kun~ You wouldn't want to remain a lifelong disappointment in my eyes, would you? Now's your chance to prove your worth."

The System: ...
