Chapter 16:

…..

-March 19th, 1996

A week after filming and sending in the video auditions for various roles his now-official manager had suggested, Adam received news that he had been rejected for the movie Jack.

According to Estelle, the producers and director had ultimately decided they wanted slightly older kids to play the friends of Robin Williams' character. At just nine years old, Adam simply didn't fit the age range they were looking for, which was between ten and thirteen.

Plus, being only 128 cm tall didn't exactly help him appear older…

Though, to be fair, Adam was actually surprised by his new height. He was still on the shorter side, sure, but at the beginning of the year, he had only been 125 cm tall. That meant he had grown a whole three centimeters since his birthday... which, for him, was kinda a big deal.

At least, it was a huge deal considering he had always been the shortest among his classmates.

"Well, it's not the end of the world," Adam said with a lighthearted smile when Estelle gave him the bad news.

Sure, he had wanted to work with someone like Robin Williams, who wouldn't?... but he wasn't going to get discouraged just because he didn't land the role. If anything, he was more excited about the fact that he had grown taller.

"No, it's not," Estelle agreed calmly. "Especially because, even though you didn't get that role… the right people are already talking about you"

Adam blinked curiously.

The right people?

"Umm... What do you mean?"

Estelle smiled, pulling out her notebook.

"One of the producers of Leave It to Beaver reached out to me," she said. "He told me that he and his team have seen thousands of auditions for the role of Beaver Cleaver, but they still haven't found someone who fully convinces them. However, your audition stood out enough for them to consider you as a possible finalist."

Adam felt a small rush of excitement. The lead role as Theodore "Beaver" Cleaver.

"So… does that mean I have to audition again?"

"Exactly. Ideally, it would be an in-person audition, but since you can't travel yet, we're going to do a few things to convince them that you are the perfect choice for the role," Estelle explained as she flipped through her notes. "They've asked us to film more audition tapes—new lines from the script, as well as a few specific scenes so you can show them even more of what you can bring to the character."

Andrew, who had been sitting nearby listening to the conversation, chimed in with his usual teasing tone.

"Looks like my little brother is dangerously close to becoming a real movie star."

Adam shot him a look, but he couldn't hold back a small smile.

"If that means more work for you, then yeah, I really hope I get it."

Andrew let out a dramatic sigh.

"Perfect. More hours editing your auditions, setting up the cameras, making sure everything looks good… Exactly how I always dreamed of spending my free time."

Estelle chuckled.

"Oh, come on, Andrew. It's not that bad. At least your brother actually has talent. Imagine if he were terrible, and you had to pretend he was good."

Andrew hummed thoughtfully.

"Okay, I guess it could be worse."

Adam rolled his eyes and turned back to Estelle.

"So… when do we start filming?"

"The sooner, the better," Estelle said. "If everything goes well, we can send the tapes within the next few days and see if you make it to the final audition."

Adam nodded, his determination clear.

"Then let's do it."

...…

Filming the new video audition scenes for Leave It to Beaver was intense and meticulous.

Unlike the first time, when he had only read a few lines from the script, this time he had to fully act out entire scenes—showing a wider range of emotions, from childlike excitement to deep sadness or frustration.

Of course, most of the work was done by his Perfect Acting ability.

Actually, scratch that... all of the work was done by it.

Which meant that without effort, Adam fully became Beaver Cleaver, the young protagonist of Leave It to Beaver.

In one scene, he had to portray the moment when Beaver, with his heart set on a brand-new bicycle, faces the crushing disappointment of realizing that his beloved bike has gone missing. Meanwhile, his mentor and older brother, Wally, tries to cover up the truth.

The scene takes place just after dinner, as their father, Ward, pressures Beaver to come clean about the missing bike.

The tension in the scene had to be palpable.

"Ready?" Andrew asked, adjusting the camera while Adam took a deep breath and prepared for the next take.

Adam exhaled slowly, allowing Perfect Acting to take over.

Within seconds, his expression completely changed…

And suddenly, he wasn't Adam White anymore.

He was Beaver Cleaver.

The camera captured every detail—his wide, innocent eyes, the slight tremble in his hands, the way his lips pressed together as if holding back tears.

Beaver had to express a mix of emotions—disappointment, fear, and just a hint of rebellion.

The sadness in his eyes.

The barely-there desperation in his forced smile.

The way his voice wavered as he tried to keep a secret he knew he couldn't hide forever.

It was a perfect performance.

Estelle, who had been watching closely, couldn't hide her reaction.

"…Incredible," she murmured. "If this video audition doesn't get him the role, then I really don't know what they're looking for."

After hours of recording, Estelle and Andrew reviewed the footage together.

"This is perfect," she finally said. "Tomorrow, we'll edit everything and send it to the producers. If they like what they see, they might invite Adam for the final in-person audition—once he's done filming Bogus."

Adam's smile grew.

He was just one step away from landing his second lead role in a film.

Now, all that was left to do was…

Wait.

-March 19th, 1990

-Malfoy Manor, Wiltshire, England

"What a disappointment…" Adam sighed as he closed the book he had picked up a few days ago from Malfoy Manor's massive library.

He had thought he might find something useful or at least interesting in its pages, but instead, it turned out to be a book full of minor prank spells and mischievous tricks.

Fun? Sure.

Useful? Not at all.

For him, it was honestly disappointing.

With a resigned sigh, he set the book aside.

"Well, at least it was entertaining for a little while…" he murmured, stretching lazily.

"Ah ~" Adam stood up and stretched his back, still feeling a little drowsy. It was early, after all. But when magic was involved, things like exhaustion, sleepiness, or any other mundane concerns tended to fade away.

As he got ready to head downstairs for breakfast, he couldn't help but feel excited about the possibility of landing the lead role in Beaver Cleaver… He really hoped he would get it.

Just as he was about to step out of his room, the door suddenly swung open…

And in walked Lucius Malfoy, his posture as impeccable as ever, though his expression carried a hint of discomfort.

"Whatever plans you had for today are canceled," Lucius announced in his usual dry tone. "Your mother has insisted that you spend time with two new… friends"

Adam blinked in surprise.

"Friends?" he repeated incredulously.

"Yes," Lucius confirmed, frowning as if the very concept displeased him. "Today, you will meet Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle... it is important that you cultivate the right connections before you enter Hogwarts"

Adam could already guess what had happened.

Narcissa.

Ever since he had started truly dedicating himself to studying magic, she had been complaining that he had no friends and never played like a boy his age should.

So this had to be her attempt to "correct" his behavior.

What Adam didn't know was that, apparently, last night, Lucius had argued with his wife about this very issue.

Lately, Narcissa had been growing increasingly frustrated with Draco.

He no longer accompanied her to social gatherings.

She couldn't introduce him to other children his age.

He no longer engaged in any of the social customs expected of him.

No… For some strange reason, her Draco spent all his time reading, completely indifferent to anything else.

And she couldn't accept that.

No, her son was not going to spend all his time alone in the study.

He needed to play.

He needed to have fun like any normal child his age.

Lucius, on the other hand, hadn't seen any problem with Draco's sudden obsession with his studies.

If anything, he was quite pleased with it.

As far as Lucius was concerned, all that playing and socializing could come later.

So why interrupt Draco's studies when he was finally focused?

However, after many heated discussions, Lucius had ultimately been forced to give in to his wife's demands.

Because when a woman like Narcissa Black wanted something…

She got it.

And that was how Adam ended up in this situation.

"Follow me," Lucius instructed. "Remember, these two will be with you for a long time in the future."

Adam simply nodded.

There was no use arguing.

He would just have to see how this played out.

What Adam also didn't know was that Lucius had found a way to make use of this situation…

If his son was going to waste precious study time socializing, then it should at least provide some kind of benefit.

And since Draco would eventually attend Hogwarts, the best thing Lucius could do as a father was ensure that his son had loyal followers by his side.

Lucius knew better than anyone how Slytherin House worked.

And he knew that being alone there was not an option.

Even though Lucius had found a silver lining in Narcissa's demands, he was still very displeased about the whole situation…

And his expression made that more than clear.

...

When they entered the lounge, Narcissa was already seated on an elegant sofa, waiting for them with a satisfied smile.

Across from her, sitting stiffly, were the two boys Lucius had mentioned…

Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle.

Both were the same age as Adam, but noticeably larger and bulkier.

'Well… this is awkward,' Adam thought as he approached his mother to greet her.

"Oh, Draco, darling," Narcissa said in her usual sweet, motherly tone. "Let me introduce you to the sons of two of your father's friends. I know you'll all get along wonderfully. You can't spend all day studying, sweetheart. You need to have fun too, don't you think?"

Adam hid his discomfort.

Seeing how genuinely excited she was, he couldn't bring himself to reject her outright.

"Of course, Mother," he replied with a small, polite smile.

"Good," Narcissa continued brightly. "This is Vincent Crabbe."

The boy on the left nodded awkwardly, looking both nervous and tense.

"And this is Gregory Goyle."

At least Goyle looked a little more relaxed than Crabbe. He greeted Adam with slightly more ease, though Adam still noticed that he, too, seemed a bit on edge.

In the magical community, social standing was taken very seriously… Not just by the parents, but by their children, who were taught early on who they shouldn't offend.

What Adam didn't know was that, despite Narcissa's claim that their fathers were "friends" with Lucius, that wasn't entirely true.

Rather than friends, they were more like followers. Loyalists who had been attached to Lucius since their days at Hogwarts, reaping benefits from staying aligned with him.

And that same dynamic was now being passed down to their sons.

This arrangement would allow both sides to continue benefiting from one another.

But it also meant that Crabbe and Goyle had already been trained to treat Draco with respect.

'Well, that explains it… It was obvious their parents had instructed them on how to behave around Draco Malfoy'

Yup, to them… He wasn't just another playmate.

Adam decided to just go along with it.

"So, Crabbe and Goyle," he said formally. "I'm Draco Malfoy. I'm sure we'll get along well in the future."

As he spoke, Adam also noticed just how hulking the two of them were for their age.

Narcissa beamed with pride.

"Excellent! Now, Draco, why don't you take them to the playroom?"

Adam nodded, resigned.

'Well… let's see how this goes'

…..

…..

To Adam's surprise, spending time with Crabbe and Goyle wasn't as terrible as he had expected.

Although… their conversation skills were definitely limited.

After playing different games with them for a while, Adam reached a very clear conclusion:

What they lacked in intelligence, they more than made up for in physical ability.

As they played, Adam quickly realized that both of them were incredibly resilient.

After an hour of running, jumping, and mock sword fighting, he was completely exhausted.

Crabbe and Goyle, on the other hand?

They barely even looked tired.

Adam collapsed onto a couch in the playroom, trying to catch his breath.

"You guys… have way too much energy," he muttered, taking a sip of water.

Crabbe and Goyle exchanged a glance before grinning with pride.

"My father says you have to be strong," Goyle stated matter-of-factly.

"Yeah," Crabbe added, nodding eagerly. "To protect ourselves."

Adam highly doubted that a pure-blooded wizard could really believe that, they didn't give a damn about physical strength when there was literally magic involved.

Most likely? Both completely misunderstood their parents.

Adam studied them more closely.

They were big for their age.

They were strong.

And though they weren't exactly the sharpest kids around, they did seem loyal.

He had only read a little about them in the Harry Potter manuscript—just enough to know they had been Draco's lackeys—so he didn't have much information beyond that.

But then, an idea began to form in his mind.

'Maybe I can use this to my advantage…'

He had been so focused on learning magic that he had completely overlooked something important:

His physical condition.

As Adam White, he had always been fairly athletic.

He played sports regularly and stayed active.

But Draco Malfoy…?

Not so much.

Up until now, he hadn't given it much thought.

Even though he and Draco looked practically identical—aside from the platinum blonde hair—there was another key difference: their physical fitness.

Draco had never really exercised much beyond flying on a broomstick, which meant that, physically speaking, he was in worse shape than Adam.

And after what he had noticed today…?

Yeah. He definitely needed to be in better form.

Adam sat up and looked at Crabbe and Goyle seriously.

"Crabbe, Goyle."

Both boys turned to him, giving him their full attention.

"How about we start training together from now on?" he suggested. "Not just playing… I mean really training. If you want to be strong, you have to be prepared."

The two boys exchanged a confused look.

But after a moment… They both nodded enthusiastically.

"Yeah!" Goyle exclaimed.

"Great idea!" Crabbe added.

Adam smirked.

They really were the perfect followers… even if they weren't exactly the brightest.

"Perfect"

If he was going to be stuck spending time with them, he might as well turn it into something useful.

From that day forward, Adam decided he would start training with Crabbe and Goyle regularly.

If he was going to be a powerful wizard, he couldn't just study magic— He needed to be in top physical shape too.

...

Time passed quickly, and before they knew it, it was already midday.

The house-elves had prepared a lavish lunch, and while Adam ate in moderation… Crabbe and Goyle absolutely devoured their food with shocking enthusiasm.

It wasn't long before their parents arrived to pick them up.

Lucius exchanged a few brief words with Mr. Crabbe and Mr. Goyle before bidding them farewell with polite formality.

Once they were gone, Narcissa turned to Adam with a satisfied expression.

"Well, wasn't that nice, Draco?" she asked with a warm smile.

Adam, seeing how genuinely happy she looked, decided not to ruin the moment.

"Yes, Mother," he replied smoothly. "I had fun."

Narcissa's smile widened, and she gently brushed his hair back before leaving the room.

As soon as Adam was alone, he stretched… And then immediately headed back to his study.

Yup, a few hours of socializing were fine…

But nothing compared to learning more about magic.
