Chapter 202: GUESTS
The beautiful woman walked towards us when she was done greeting the other guests. Her eyes lingered around us and stopped when it fell on me.
"Hello Arno, you never said you were attending my party, where's Xander." She asked finally shifting her gaze from me and I let out a small sigh.
"He should be with his maker, or is probably having fun at a corner." Damon laughed at his dry jokes which no one else thought to be funny.
"Who's she?" She asked sizing me with her eyes.
"This... Is... Bash, she's a friend to Xander." Arno lied. I wasn't a friend to Xander, he wouldn't even talk or look at me. She narrowed her eyes at me.
"I don't recall having a mask party." Arno chuckled at her words.
"Well, we don't always have to follow your silly dress code should we?" She shook her head not taking her brown eyes off me.
"You must really be of importance to him to be called a friend." She said with an invisible pain in her voice. Of course, I saw this coming, Mr Perfect is so handsome, so it's not surprising that he's got a woman in love with him. She's ten times more beautiful than I am, I wondered why I thought I had a chance with him.
I said nothing to her, rather just smiled at her words adjusting the mask on my face. If only she knew I haven't said anything to Xander other than the hi he didn't respond to.
"Anyways, since you're here, may I have this dance, my lady?" Callon asked gesturing his hands which she took after rolling her eyes.
"Stay here, bunny don't go anywhere. I need to talk to someone real quick." Arno left me to a woman just across us. I felt awkward and alone standing next to no one, it's not like Damon looked like someone who could keep people company. Maybe I should have asked Camela or Yvonne to come with me.
I was the only one without a partner. Even if the men didn't con with anyone, at least they could still mingle with people. They knew a lot of people here than I did. I tried distracting myself with something else just to avoid looking awkward at the party.
Taking a drink from a waiter walking around, I gulped a large ball down my throat. I had zero control when it came to drinking and I had no idea why, but I still drank anyway. "Be careful with that, that is no ordinary wine," Damon said from behind me placing the glass back on the table. "Come on, let's dance." He said. Before I could protest he dragged me to the dance floor.
Damon guided me across the centre of the large hall. He kept his eyes on me, yet still, he knew exactly where to take me. Every moment, every angle seemed to be planned in advance. Nothing felt forced, I literally thought I was floating.
"I gulped noticing the gazes of people on us as I was the only person in a mask. The strange girl in mask.
Damon squeezed my hand slightly and smiled. "There's no need to be nervous, just flow with the instrument," he chuckled softly, "Thanks."
With that, I knew. He need not say more. My heart, settled and my smile was unending. I've never danced like this before, but it felt like I knew the music, it felt like I've danced to this tune before.
The music changed in time, but Damon was not willing to let me go as we started a new dance, a more close one. When it was time for the women to leave their partners and twirl before holding them again, I did just that but almost choked with who held me.
"He had somewhere to be." Was all he said. He spoke to me for the first time since I met him. I could hear fireworks exploding in my head. My body tensed up as he held my hands. Why was I feeling this way?
The heat radiating from us caused the slick sweat that glides down my skin. How we moved in sync, my ragged, short breaths, and how each dance move makes me breathless.
"What do you want from them?" He suddenly asked. At a time like this? A time when my brain could no longer process a sentence.
"I'm not here for them," I said without a clue of what I was saying.
He turned elegantly, his body in tune with the slow music. Yet, there was a sort of harshness to him, like he was someone who shouldn't be underestimated. I didn't quite care at the moment. Was it because I was falling in love with a man I hardly knew?
The warmth between us grew more powerful by the second. My heartbeat was growing steadily along with it. Our dance was perfect, everything from our breathing to how our feet moved stayed in sync. If by the end of this dance my breath is taken away, I would know the exact reason why.
"What do you want from me then?" He inquired.
I almost passed out when our bodies touched. I felt hot with his breath on my cheeks as he now towered over me pulling my slender figure to himself.
"Marry me..." I said breathlessly.
Moses couldn't bare the pain he would put his wife through. It was just too much on him. He had done something really terrible to his innocent wife.
"I'm sorry." He said tears falling from his eyes. He couldn't do this to his beloved wife, she doesn't deserve any of this. She does not deserve him.
"Don't be, we have a daughter now Moses have you seen her? She looks just like you." Jocelyn said sitting up to wipe tears from his eyes. Moses mouth felt so heavy. He had nothing to say to her.
He had seen his daughter, and for the few minute she was in his arms he could tell she looked so much like his wife. But he couldn't say that. He wouldn't. Not when it would make everything about his plan suspicious.
"I just got here and was asked to take my bath I'll go see her now." He said calmly.
"Then let's see her together." Jocelyn happily got off the bed but as soon as she stood up she coughed out blood which splattered everywhere including on the clothe of the man who was standing right in front of her with wide eyes.
"Are you okay Lean?" Moses frowned staring at the stains of blood around. "Yes." She responded.
"Let me get the doctor." He said walking quickly towards the door, before Jocelyn could walk up to him to stop him from moving, she fell unconscious on the floor. Moses turned around when he heard the thud to see his wife on the floor.
He screamed calling the attention of the doctor and nurses who quickly took her to the emergency room for treatment.
Moses sat in the waiting room lost in his thoughts. Earlier today he had run through the city in search of help so as not to lose his family and now he was losing them. First his daughter and now, his beloved wife.
"Moses you're here. Where's Jocelyn and the baby how are they doing?" Miriam, Lean's mother finally arrived after selling a good portion of her important clothes and jewelry to help raise money for their bills. Even if she had sold those clothes and jewelries she still wasn't able to make half of the bills but she hoped it would be enough.
"She's in the emergency room." Was all Moses could say and the old woman walked towards the room.
After a while he heard screams coming from there and knew he had lost his wife too. He couldn't cry anymore and just kept laughing to himself.
The doctor said his wife had died from a serious heart complications she's been hiding for years. No wonder she was too eager to give him a child. And now he's lost the said child.
Moses left the bag of money with his mother in law and just wondered off. He didn't bother checking on his child or his mother in law ever again, but he knew he had given her the money that would be enough to carry her through her remaining life. And he hoped wherever Rose was, she was in safe hands.
He thought he was saving his family that day, but had ended up losing everything. Now he's forced to be the baby sitter/ assistant to his new boss stupid nephew.
A cunning man who through his devious acts has climbed his way to the top at a very young age.
"Stop getting lost koslov and arrange another meeting with the investors. We would have enough time for your shenanigans later." The silver haired man before him spat as he wore his shirt.
