Chapter 15: 15.Hunting
Henry and John were in the front seats, while Axel and the others were in the back. They were in Henry's pickup truck. Henry was driving.
After a while they stopped in front of a house. "Wait for me here, I'll be back in 5 minutes," Henry got out of the pickup.
He went into the house and came out 4 minutes later. He was holding three rifles. He brought the rifles for Axel, Maxwell, and Felix. His own rifle was in the pickup. John had taken his rifle before he left the house.
Betty came out of the house after Henry. Betty gave warnings. "Be careful with each other, Henry."
"Okay, Betty. We'll be careful." Whenever Henry went hunting, Betty always told him to be careful.
Betty waved to the Blackwood family when she saw them.
"We're leaving, Betty." Henry got into the pickup and drove off. Henry had handed the rifles to Axel who was in the back seat.
Henry and John talked on the way. Axel and Maxwell listened as Felix drew in his notebook.
They walked along the road between tall trees. Felix finished his drawing. When Axel looked at the drawing, he saw a picture of several different men in the forest.
When Axel looked at this drawing, he understood that they were going to meet someone in the forest.
Even though Axel hadn't taken his axe before leaving home, he was sure that the people they would meet would be dangerous.
Henry parked the truck under a tree. The place where they parked was shady. After everyone took their guns, Henry distributed bullets to everyone.
Maxwell took the bag of water and food.
"Is there anyone who doesn't know how to shoot? Or anyone who doesn't know how to use a rifle?"
"I trained them, is it possible they don't know?" John spoke proudly.
"I ask because I know you trained them." Henry didn't miss the opportunity to tease John.
Axel stepped in to stop their argument. "I think an animal passed this side." Axel pointed his hand in the distance.
"Where? I don't see it." Henry looked in the direction Axel pointed.
John thought Axel was lying.
"It must be gone, let's check." Henry started to move forward carefully and quietly, believing what Axel had said.
_____________ One Hour Later ____________
The group that had been walking for a long time was following the tracks of a deer. Except for Henry, the others knew where the deer was, but they didn't say so so as not to arouse suspicion.
As Henry advanced with his rifle, Axel spotted a group of vampires nearby. After signaling to John, Axel went to intercept the group of vampires. Felix and Maxwell followed Axel.
As Axel intercepted the group of vampires, he realized that the newcomers were from the Volturi. Axel stood in front of them, while Felix and Maxwell stood behind them.
"How dare you block our path?" As a vampire from their midst approached Axel, the old-looking Volturi member who was standing still grabbed his arm. "I think we can handle this. What's the problem? Why are you blocking our path?"
The old-looking vampire had tried to approach moderately. He never let Axel out of his sight.
"You are our friends. We hope you won't cause any trouble." Axel tried to communicate calmly.
"Calling a shapeshifter and a human your friends? We -" the same vampire was about to make trouble again when the others stopped him. "There will be no trouble, everyone will go on their way."
Axel didn't answer. Axel's cold gaze was on the Volturi vampires. Even though they knew Axel was strong, they thought they wouldn't dare attack the Volturi.
The Volturi vampires mostly looked at Axel. Axel understood that the vampires in front of him knew him. Because Axel was sure that if they didn't know him, they would try to bully him. Axel had heard a lot about the Volturi. But among the things he had heard, there was nothing good.
"Yes. Everyone going their own way is the best decision." Axel didn't use his fists because the other side wasn't causing any trouble.
The Volturi members changed their route and headed in a different direction.
Axel looked in the direction the Volturi had gone.
"They're gone. Come on buddy, we have to go back." Felix tried to calm Axel.
Axel decided to go back to Henry and John. They had been missing for a long time. Henry was not a stupid man, he had definitely noticed.
"Weren't they Volturi?" Felix tried to satisfy his curiosity.
"Yes." Maxwell replied briefly.
As Axel walked, lost in thought, he wondered why the Volturi members were here. Axel wanted to know the answer.
"Where have you been all this time?" Henry looked angry.
"We -" Maxwell started to answer when John cut him off.
"You shouldn't insult Felix, my friend. I told you that." The three didn't understand what John meant.
"Felix, I've known you for a long time. It hurt me that you hid your illness from me. I thought we were close." Henry looked sad.
"What illness?" Felix didn't understand.
"No need to pretend. John told me everything. But I understand you. I respect you. You're a young man."
Axel approached John and asked quietly, "What did you tell him?" Although Axel had a few guesses, he wanted to hear from John.
John laughed softly. "I had to make something up since you didn't come for a long time."
"Who were the newcomers?" John stopped laughing and got serious. He sensed that there were other vampires.
"They were from the Volturi."
"Volturi? Did they come for us? No, there must be something else." John searched for a logical reason.
"I don't think they came for us. They didn't make trouble because they knew me. But they know you're here. Maybe they came to find you." Axel considered all the possibilities.
"No, they won't come. They've known my whereabouts for a long time. They won't come because they don't see me as a threat." John was sure of his words.
Axel found John's words to be logical. There was no way the Volturi were unaware of the shapeshifters. There were plenty of sources for the Volturi to get information.
While Felix and Maxwell talked to Henry, they listened at the same time.
"We've waited long enough. Now we need to find some prey." Henry started to move and the others followed. After walking a short distance, they saw a deer ahead. Henry aimed his rifle at the deer.
"How about we leave this to the young ones, John?" Henry wanted to help them gain experience.
"I trust them. They can do it." John had taught them all kinds of guns.
"Who wants to try?" Henry looked at Axel. "Axel, would you like to try?
Axel raised his rifle and aimed at the deer. His finger was on the trigger. Axel was about to shoot, but he noticed something and changed his mind. There was a fawn.
Axel took his hand off the trigger and lowered his rifle.
