Chapter 147: Testing strength
"Mistress, I'm sorry for being direct, but the guard, is he dead?" the captain asked while still bowing.
Right now, his heart was racing and far from calm. His fears were understandable. What could he do? He was the weaker one. The only thing he could do was hope that the guard was okay.
The loss of a C-rank guard would be too heavy for the Infite City.
"Oh, that…" Chu Su said as suddenly, a man appeared beside her.
Everyone looked at the man in shock—it was the guard.
With a terrified expression, the guard collapsed to the ground.
"Help him," Chu Su said, and the guards bowing hurriedly stood up and carried him away.
"Thank you," the captain said, raising his head.
"It's nothing," Chu Su replied as Louk looked on with bright eyes.
"Haha, I made the right bet. Father, your son isn't a failure," Louk thought happily.
"You are welcome to the Infite City, and…" The captain paused and smiled. He noticed Louk standing with a golden-haired, beautiful woman.
For a moment, his eyes didn't leave her. Finally, he looked away but smiled. Seeing Chu Su walking toward the woman and staying with her, the captain thought they must be companions.
"Young Master, take care of them," the captain said with a smile and bowed again to Chu Su. In a few strides, the captain disappeared as the audience began chattering.
The news of what had happened spread quickly like wildfire.
"Well, let's go then," Louk said with a smile as the two girls followed him.

Passing an alleyway, the captain's frown deepened. "I didn't even see her move from her spot, and judging by the fact that I couldn't see the guard even with my eyesight says a lot. He must have been thrown really far. Such strength and speed... Can she teleport? Is that her ability? Wait, no... if that's her ability ,then she should disappear, but it seems she didn't move. Is it just her speed?" The captain pondered as his expression turned grim.
"This strength… I need to tell the City Lord," the captain said and increased his speed.

At a mansion, an old man was reading the news sent by the capital to all cities.
"The rate of dungeons appearing has increased rapidly; things have become dangerous," the old man muttered as he dropped the book in front of him and rubbed his temples.
His face slowly changed from that of an old man to a middle-aged man. Handsome yet strict, he spoke suddenly.
"Speak," the middle-aged man commanded as the shadow of a nearby curtain shook, and a being appeared.
"City Lord, I found some suspicious beings—two females specifically—and their strength is incredible," a human suddenly appeared. His face was that of a young man, but this so-called young man was at B-rank.
This alone was enough to show his potential.
"Hmm, I see… How strong are they? Stronger than you… or me?" the City Lord asked, stressing the last part.
"Stronger than you," the young man replied.
"I was also given a warning by them not to spy on them," the young man added, and the City Lord sighed.
"I see. Thanks for your hard work, and I will make sure to clear your name. You may retire from being his bodyguard," the City Lord said as the young man bowed.
"But who will protect him?" the young man asked with a frown.
"No one. It is time he mans up. Whether he dies or lives will be left to fate now," the City Lord said, his eyes growing turbid.
The young man sighed. He knew this decision was a tough one for the City Lord. The City Lord was an A-rank adventurer and respected by all. With his morphing ability, he had mastered body parts of the strongest Rank A monsters he could find. His physical strength was unmatched.
But with all this strength came a huge disadvantage. His only son was born with a weak ability called Finder.
At first, when this ability was discovered, everyone thought they would be able to find treasures or even magical weapons, but no—they couldn't find anything. The only benefit of this ability was locating powerful monsters they couldn't defeat.
With a sigh, the City Lord seemed to age dozens of years in an instant.
"I understand," the young man said.
"Thanks for your help, Bius (Ablabuis—sorry, cough)," the City Lord said.
"It's my pleasure. After all, I'm doing this to get your help," Bius replied. Enjoy exclusive content from empire
"Haha, true, but I can see your heart, boy. You care for my son," the City Lord said, looking out at his city from the window of his room.
"…" Bius remained silent, acknowledging this.
"I won't stop you from making friends with him, and I will vouch for you. I promise with my life," the City Lord said.
"Thank you," Bius said, turning into a shadow and disappearing.
"Alas, if I could just have that boy as my son, life would be good," the City Lord thought and sighed.
His gaze seemed to pass through the city and land directly on his son.
"Fate has really played a bad game with you, my son," the City Lord muttered and sighed again.
Just then, he heard a knock.
Knock, knock…
"Come in," the City Lord said, returning to his seat as the door opened.
The captain appeared, bowing slightly.
"City Lord, we have an issue. A strong woman is here, and she might even be suspected of being S-rank," the captain said, and the City Lord's eyes narrowed.
First, Bius's report, and now this. Before, he had doubts, but now he didn't anymore. The captain had seen many A-rank beings in action, so he knew their strength well.
With a sigh, the old man pondered. "This woman… sigh. I hope I can convince her to stay and protect this city. With the rate of dungeon breaks increasing, soon a massive dungeon break will happen with an S-rank beast. She might be the only solution," the City Lord thought.
"Well, we can't be disrespectful. Let's go and greet her," the City Lord said.
