Abyss Saga

Chapter 8: The Black Butterfly’s Prophecy

Rain stood in the midst of the storm, his eyes reflecting the lightning that tore through the sky. His body pulsed with a power he couldn't explain, as if the Black Butterfly within his soul was expanding, consuming the last remnants of his humanity piece by piece. The rain poured heavily, mixing with the scent of blood still covering his hands.

He took a deep breath, ignoring the bodies scattered around him. He knew this was only the beginning, and that the world would never leave him alone after what he had done. Another village had been annihilated by his hands, yet there was no regret in his heart. There was nothing left worthy of mercy.

"Rain..." The voice echoed in his mind, soft yet carrying an undeniable authority.

"I know..." he muttered, running a hand over his bloodstained scarf. "They'll try again."

He didn't need an explanation. The organization, the heroes, the hired assassins—the entire world would hunt him to the end. But this time, he wasn't planning to run.

The Black Butterfly stirred within him, its dark wings pulsating with energy that grew stronger with every heartbeat. He felt power surging through him like never before, as if something ancient and far greater was beginning to awaken.

"They are coming."

Rain looked toward the horizon, where dozens of soldiers emerged from the trees, their weapons gleaming under the rain, the insignia of the organization engraved on their armor. In the center stood a distinctive figure—a man with silver hair and eyes cold as ice. He was no ordinary soldier—he was one of the high-ranking commanders.

"Rain Earthen." The man spoke steadily, as if nothing in the world could shake him. "You have now been classified as an S-rank threat. We have orders to eliminate you."

Rain chuckled softly, then lifted his gaze to meet the man's eyes. "Eliminate me? You're not the first to try, and you won't be the last."

The commander raised his hand, signaling the soldiers to prepare. "This time, you won't have a chance to escape."

"Escape?" Rain whispered—then vanished.

In the blink of an eye, he reappeared behind one of the soldiers, placing a hand on his head before crushing his skull with terrifying ease. Blood splattered like rain as Rain turned to face the remaining soldiers, who stood frozen in place.

"You're nothing but pawns." His voice was calm, yet it carried an unmatched brutality.

The commander shouted, "Attack!"

And in an instant, the battlefield became hell.

The soldiers unleashed their attacks—swords flashing, bullets cutting through the air, and magical spells illuminating the darkness. But none of it was enough.

Rain moved like a phantom of death, manipulating fate as if it were a mere thread in his fingers. Every soldier who approached him met a fate worse than death—their bodies shattered, their bones crumbled, and their souls were devoured by the Black Butterfly without the slightest mercy.

The commander watched with frozen eyes, yet he wasn't afraid. On the contrary, he seemed to have expected this all along.

"You have surpassed human limits, Rain..." he muttered, his voice barely audible amidst the screams. "But that doesn't mean you're immortal."

Then, with a single step, he disappeared.

Rain barely saw him move before he felt a violent shock in his chest. For the first time in a long while, he staggered back, a drop of blood falling from his lips.

He looked down at his chest to find a black dagger embedded deep within. It was unlike anything he had seen before, pulsating with an eerie energy that unsettled even the Black Butterfly.

Rain lifted his gaze to the commander, who stood before him with a cold smile. "This is no ordinary weapon. It was made specifically to end monsters like you."

A strange force pulled at Rain, different from the Black Butterfly—something he didn't fully understand. For the first time, he felt true danger.

But it wasn't enough to stop him.

He reached out, gripped the dagger, and tore it from his chest, ignoring the blood pouring from his wound. His eyes met the commander's—and the latter's smile vanished.

"Did you really think something like this could stop me?" Rain muttered before vanishing again.

The commander barely registered what had happened before he felt a cold hand wrap around his throat.

"Goodbye," Rain whispered, and in an instant, the man's body disintegrated into ash, fading into the wind.

Rain stood motionless, closing his eyes for a moment. "How many times will they keep trying?"

The Black Butterfly answered, "Until they realize there is no escaping their fate."

Rain smirked, then lifted his head to look at the sky. The rain hadn't stopped, but somehow, it felt warmer.

"This is only the beginning."
