Koneko appeared right in front of me and immediately cut straight to the heart of the matter.

She's totally onto me, isn't she?! I bet she can smell it all over me, right?!

I was wondering why she was here, but then I remembered—her master Rias Gremory uses the high school's Occult Research Club as her base. After school, it's perfectly normal for a middle schooler like her to be there!

Wait, didn't Kuroka know her sister was in the ORC?! Was that an oversight?! A simple mistake?! Some kind of curse?! Though I can't really talk!!

"......"

".....What do you mean?"

I decided to play dumb for now.

"Don't try to dodge this!"

Damn, she shut me down in seconds.

What should I do?! What's the best way to handle this without making waves?! I don't think she'd sell out Kuroka, but right now she thinks her sister betrayed her.

And here I am, this guy who reeks of her sister's scent. She might get confused and report to Rias without thinking it through. That would be bad! Whatever the circumstances, Kuroka is currently an SS-rank Stray Devil!

The Rias I know might not send an extermination squad, but she'd probably at least dispatch a capture team... Even if I could somehow convince Koneko to keep quiet, if it came out later that she was "harboring a wanted criminal," both she and her master Rias could end up in serious trouble... Think, dammit!

When I wiped my sweaty palms on my pants, I felt something hard—wait, maybe this could work? Even if it's terrible acting, I need to take control of this situation.

"...I have no idea what you're talking about. More importantly, let's discuss business."

I put on my best final boss act (channeling Azazel-sensei) as I said this.

"...Business?"

"That's right, business, little devil."

She immediately backed away.

"Don't be so wary. As you can see, I'm just a regular human—I want to make a contract with you."

I pulled out a card from my pocket—a devil summoning card. I'd gotten it the other day and kept it as a memento.

"...A contract?"

"Exactly. Tonight, I'm going to use this card to summon you. Come alone, of course. You might learn something you want to know—but don't go running to your master. If it's just you, fine, but if that Gremory princess shows up too, things could get complicated..."

I used full body enhancement to instantly appear behind her.

"You understand who has the advantage in a fight, right? I'll say it again. Don't tell anyone—come alone. That way, everything might work out nicely."

With that, I vanished in an instant.

"...So? What's your excuse?"

Scene change to my room, where I'm currently prostrating myself with everything I've got.

"I panicked. I wasn't thinking straight. I'm sorry!"

Halfway through, I think I got way too into the acting (Azazel-style).

Watching me like this, Kuroka seems pretty deflated.

She's probably thinking this is hopeless.

"Sigh My carelessness was part of it too, and there's no point dwelling on what's done when we don't have much time. So? What were you planning to do?"

"Like I told your sister, I want her to make a contract with me. The contract is just for casual conversation, but with the condition that she can't tell anyone else about what we discuss, directly or indirectly."

I'm probably being super suspicious, but I haven't shown any proof that Kuroka is here yet. If I can just get the contract signed first, things might work out... sort of.

"Fine, I'll go somewhere far away so you can handle this smoothly."

She started forming a magic circle at her feet to teleport.

"Wait nooooo!"

I managed to destroy the magic circle and hugged Kuroka—actually, this is the first time I've hugged her on my own, but I can't worry about that now! ...Though she is soft and her waist is so slim! While having these thoughts, I desperately held on.

"It's impossible! There's no way I can handle this alone without you! This is your chance to make up with your sister!"

"Nya~! Let go nya~! What kind of face am I supposed to make when I see her nya~!!"

"Any face is fine as long as you tell her the truth! We can improvise the rest!"

"That's called winging it nya!"

While we kept going back and forth like this, it got completely dark outside. It was probably time to summon her.

"...Fine, I'll meet Shirone. But Ikki! If Shirone ends up hating me, I'm leaving this town, and you're coming with me! I'll squeeze every last drop out of your gens at our hideout!"

For a moment, I actually thought that might not be so bad, but it probably won't come to that.

"Got it, so hide for now! I'm about to summon her!"

I let go of Kuroka and waited for her to leave the room before using the summoning card, thinking strongly about Toujou Koneko.

A magic circle appeared in the middle of the room and Koneko materialized. As soon as she confirmed it was me, she backed away and scanned the room with sharp eyes.

"...Are you alone?"

She's completely on guard... which makes sense. And I'm still in final boss mode (Azazel-style)—I might actually be pretty calm right now (delusional).

I crossed my arms and put on a fearless smile.

"Don't be so wary, little devil. Let's have a peaceful discussion."

"Discussion?"

"That's right. Devils grant humans' wishes, don't they? My request is simple conversation 'in this room.' However, you're forbidden from telling anyone else what you see or hear here by any means whatsoever."

"..."
