A man called Drinain

Chapter 3: Chapter three: Deception and betrayal.

As the days passed, a rumor began to spread like wildfire through the town. It was whispered that Archbishop Andrews was responsible for the strange and terrifying events that had befallen the man who had come to take the church's money. The rumor was fueled by the rebellious Everians, who saw an opportunity to stir up trouble and attack the Archbishop.

The community leaders, however, were quick to intervene, and they managed to calm the mob and prevent any violence. But the damage had already been done, and the seeds of discord had been sown.

Meanwhile, Jason, the younger brother of Archbishop Andrews and the bishop of Florentine, saw an opportunity to advance his own interests. He had always coveted the position of Archbishop, and now he saw a chance to achieve his goal through corrupt means.

Jason traveled to meet King Alexander Ephiphanes, bearing gifts of 10,000 kilograms of silver and 1,500 kilograms of gold. He promised to pay an additional 4,000 kilograms of silver for the establishment of a pagan worship center for Ramas.

King Alexander Ephiphanes was pleased with Jason's offer and gave him his approval. Jason returned to Everia, armed with the king's backing and a contingent of soldiers. He forced his brother, Archbishop Andrews Tates, to resign as Archbishop, and then he set about abolishing all the favors and customs that his brother had established.

The rebellious Everians, who had grown tired of the Christian customs and ways, supported Jason's actions. They were led by some of the community leaders who had grown corrupt and power-hungry.

As a result of Jason's actions, the worship of God Almighty began to decline in Everia. Some priests and church leaders lost interest in the true faith and led the people astray, introducing them to the worship of Ramas. The kingdom of Everia was plunged into darkness and chaos, and the people suffered greatly under Jason's leadership.

Even Jason's rule as Archbishop was short-lived, as he was overthrown by another bishop named Matthias Foxx. This event occurred during the third year of Jason's tenure as Archbishop of Everia.

Jason had sent Matthias to Galvia with a large sum of money for King Alexander Ephiphanes and to seek the king's opinion on some matters concerning Everia. However, when Matthias arrived in Galvia, he had a change of heart. He turned against Archbishop Jason and impressed King Alexander Ephiphanes by offering him double the amount of money Jason had instructed him to give.

As a result, Matthias returned to Everia with an appointment letter from the king, confirming him as the new Archbishop of Everia. However, Matthias possessed no qualifications for the position, apart from being a bishop. He was a cruel tyrant, known for his fierce and wild behavior.

And so, Jason Tates, who had forced his brother Andrews Tates to relinquish the position of Archbishop, now suffered the same fate. He was forced to flee to the kingdom of Aldovia.

Matthias, on the other hand, continued to serve as Archbishop, but he never fulfilled his promise to pay the king the money he had pledged.

Meanwhile, a wave of unrest swept through the cities of Marus and Tallus, sparked by King Alexander's decision to gift these cities to his Queen Pamela. In an effort to restore order, King Alexander set out for these cities, leaving the affairs of the kingdom in the hands of one of his officials, Malcolm.

Matthias, the cunning Archbishop of Everia, seized upon this development as an opportunity to further his own interests. He paid a visit to Malcolm, presenting him with golden articles stolen from the church. Matthias had been secretly selling off church treasures to neighboring kingdoms, lining his own pockets with the proceeds.

During his meeting with Malcolm, Matthias proposed a sinister plot: the murder of Andrews Tates, the former Archbishop of Everia. When news of this plot reached Andrews Tates through a reliable source, he fled to a church in Dawnees dukedom, in the kingdom of Calonia, seeking safety.

However, Malcolm proved to be a master of deception. He reached out to Andrews Tates, feigning friendship and promising him safety. Despite his initial suspicions, Andrews Tates eventually succumbed to Malcolm's pressure. Lured from the safety of the church, Andrews Tates met a tragic end, murdered in cold blood by the treacherous Malcolm.

As the faithful Christians of Everia struggled to come to terms with the corruption and evil that had taken hold of their church, another scandal erupted. Lycan, the brother of Archbishop Matthias, had been secretly robbing the church of Saint Paul Cathedral, making off with numerous valuable articles.

The people of Everia, still faithful to God, were outraged when they learned of Lycan's thievery. They formed a crowd and began to protest against him, demanding justice for the church and its people.

Lycan, realizing that the mob was becoming increasingly dangerous, decided to take drastic action. He sent 2,000 armed men under his command to attack the protesters.

But the Christians were not easily intimidated. When they saw the armed men approaching, they picked up whatever they could find - stones, pieces of wood, and other objects - and threw them at Lycan and his men.

The battle was fierce, but in the end, the Christians emerged victorious. They killed 500 of Lycan's men, wounded many others, and sent the rest fleeing for their lives.

Lycan himself met a grisly end, killed near the church treasury, the very place where he had committed so many of his nefarious deeds. The people of Everia rejoiced at the news of Lycan's demise, but they knew that their struggles were far from over.
