A man called Drinain

Chapter 2: Chapter two: Discord in the church.

The warm sunlight streaming through the stained glass windows of Saint Paul Cathedral cast a kaleidoscope of colors on the stone floor, but the beauty of the scene was lost on the two men standing in the center of the nave. Archbishop Andrews and Simeon, the people's warden of the cathedral, were engaged in a heated argument.

"You are overstepping your bounds, Simeon," Archbishop Andrews said, his voice firm but controlled. "The rules governing the kingdom market are clear, and I will not support any changes that would undermine the well-being of our people."

Simeon's face reddened with anger. "You are always so quick to side with the community leaders, Your Grace," he spat. "But what about the interests of the cathedral? Do they not deserve consideration?"

"Well whatever you say is your business but my stand still remain the same.I will not support evil and all those barbaric rules about heavy taxes on the citizens of Everia must be abolished for the wellbeing of the kingdom" Archbishop Andrews said.

The argument had begun several days ago, when the community leaders of Everia had come to the archbishop seeking his opinion on a proposed change to the market rules. Simeon, who had long been a thorn in the side of Archbishop Andrews, had opposed the change, and the Archbishop had sided with the community leaders.

Simeon now angry with the Archbishop for suoporting the community leaders had taken his grievances to a higher authority. Archbishop Andrews received words a few days later that Simeon had met with James, the governor of Casttelum in Galvia, and had made some disturbing accusations.

"Simeon has told Governor James that there is a large sum of money in the church treasury that cannot be accounted for," Matthew a church member who heard from a reliable source said, his eyes narrowing. "He also suggested that the money be placed under the king's command, since it is not needed for the servicing of the church."

The Archbishop was heavy with concern. He knew that Simeon's accusations had the potential to cause great harm to the church and the people of Everia.

Meanwhile king Alexander Ephiphanes of Galvia called for a meeting with all his royal officials to know about the recent developments happening in his realm.James the governor of Casttelum whom Simeon had met earlier was among them and he felt that this was a good opportunity to tell the king all that Simeon had told him.

James, the governor of Casttelum, stood before King Alexander Ephiphanes, his voice bold as he relayed the news he had received from Simeon. "Your Majesty, I have been informed that there is a large sum of money hidden away in the treasury of Saint Paul Cathedral in Everia."

King Alexander's eyes lit up with greed at the hearing of money and he leaned forward in his throne. "How much money are we talking about?" he asked, his voice dripping with avarice.

James hesitated for a moment before responding. "I'm not entirely sure, Your Majesty. But I have been told that it is a substantial amount."

King Alexander's face twisted into a cruel smile. "I want that money," he growled, and turning to his chief administrative officer, Homer said to him "See to it that it is retrieved and brought back to me."

"Yes your majesty"Homer said bowing low and immediately left the king's presence to carry out his command.

Homer set off immediately for Everia, accompanied by a large contingent of soldiers. He claimed that he was on a tour of inspection, visiting the various cities and kingdoms under King Alexander's rule.

When Homer arrived at Saint Paul Cathedral, he was warmly received by Archbishop Andrews. But as soon as they were alone, Homer's demeanor changed, and he revealed the true reason for his visit.

"Archbishop Andrews, I have been told that there is a large sum of money hidden away in the treasury of this cathedral," Homer said, his eyes glinting with greed. "Is this true?"

Archbishop Andrews' face was calm, but his eyes flashed with anger.Indeed Simeon was someone not to be trusted at all as such a news has reached the king "It is true," he said, "but I must condemn the actions of Simeon, who has seen fit to betray the trust of this cathedral all for his selfish interest"

Homer's eyes narrowed. "I am not concerned with Simeon's actions, that's between you and him and I wish not to be involved in whatever squabble you and him have" he said. "I am concerned with retrieving the money. How much is there, and where is it?"

Archbishop Andrews sighed. "The money amounts to thirty thousand kilograms of silver and five thousand kilograms of gold," he said. "But I must tell you, Homer, that this money is not for anything else. It has been set aside by the church to help widows and orphans in the kingdom of Everia."

Homer's face twisted into a scowl. "I am not concerned with the charity of the church," he said. "I am concerned with retrieving the money for King Alexander."

Archbishop Andrews' eyes flashed with anger. "And I must tell you, Homer, that half of this money belongs to Elliott Smith, a high and influential man in Everia. He entrusted it to me for safekeeping, and I will not betray that trust."

Homer left the cathedral after that in a fit of rage but his parting words to Archbishop Andrews still lingered in the air: "I don't care about your stories or your excuses. I will return in three days, and I will take that money by any means necessary." With that, he turned and left, his bodyguards following closely behind.

The news of Homer's ultimatum spread like wildfire throughout the kingdom of Everia, causing widespread panic and outrage. Priests, dressed in their priestly garments, went about their duties with heavy hearts, throwing themselves down at God's altar at every opportunity to pray for deliverance.

Archbishop Andrews was a shadow of his former self, his countenance changed from one of joy to one of deep sorrow. The entire kingdom was in an uproar, with women dressed in sackcloth crowding the streets, wailing and lamenting the impending doom.

Young girls, who had never been allowed to venture out in public, ran freely through the kingdom, rushing to the nearest church to pray and seek solace. Men, too, dressed in sackcloth, went about their daily activities with downcast faces, their hearts heavy with worry.

But amidst the chaos and despair, there was a small group of Everians who seemed entirely unaffected by the news. The rebellious set, who had long since abandoned their faith in God Almighty, saw an opportunity to advance their own interests. They joined forces with Homer, declaring feasts in their homes and celebrating what they saw as a victory over the church.

As the kingdom of Everia teetered on the brink of chaos, one thing was certain: the next three days would be crucial in determining the fate of the kingdom and its people.

Monday morning dawned, and Homer, flanked by his bodyguards and accompanied by some of the rebellious Everians, marched proudly into the church, intent on carrying out his evil agenda. They thought to themselves, "the so called and useless God of Everia is asleep, and He cannot see what we are doing in His church."

But the moment Homer and his team entered the church treasury, something miraculous happened. Homer alone saw a vision or trance before him. In this trance, he saw two handsome men dressed in white, with golden swords at their waists, looking at him fiercely from high up in the ceiling of the treasury.

Suddenly, the two men descended with lightning speed and stood on either side of Homer. Before he could react, they beat him mercilessly, leaving him black and blue until he lost consciousness. Homer fell to the ground, and his men, shocked and amazed by what had just happened, carried him out of the church on a stretcher.

Only moments before, Homer had entered the church with pride and arrogance, intent on desecrating God's holy place. But now, he was being carried out, unconscious and helpless. All who witnessed the event were left in awe of God's mighty power, and they trembled with fear at the thought of His wrath.

The news of Homer's punishment spread quickly throughout the kingdom, and the people were filled with a mix of emotions - fear, awe, and reverence for the God who had defended His church. The rebellious Everians, who had joined forces with Homer, were shocked and dismayed by the sudden turn of events, and they didn't know what to do next.

Homer's condition worsened, and he developed a terrible fever, despite being unconscious. His bodyguards were frantic with worry and didn't know what to do. In desperation, they went to Archbishop Andrews, begging him to pray for Homer's recovery.

After much pleading, Archbishop Andrews reluctantly agreed to visit Homer. He went to Homer's bedside, prayed for him, and anointed him with holy oil. Slowly but surely, Homer began to recover, and within three days, he was fully healed.

Homer was overwhelmed with gratitude and gave thanks to God Almighty. He even offered a gift of gold to God and immediately made plans to leave Everia kingdom and return to King Alexander Ephiphanes.

When Homer arrived at the palace, King Alexander Ephiphanes was eager to know if he had succeeded in retrieving the money. But Homer had a very different story to tell.

"It was impossible to get the money, Your Majesty," Homer said, his voice shaking slightly as he recalled his terrifying experience. "Something strange and miraculous happened at the cathedral church of Saint Paul. I was beaten unconscious by two mysterious men, and I would have died if Archbishop Andrews had not prayed for me."

King Alexander Ephiphanes was taken aback by Homer's story. "Who can I send to Everia to retrieve the money?" he asked, his mind racing with possibilities.

Homer's expression was grim. "If you have anyone who is planning to overthrow your government, Your Majesty, that person would be the perfect candidate. But I must warn you, they will not return from Everia alive. There is a strange and powerful force at work in that kingdom, and it will not be easily defeated."
