A Dual Crest Summoner In Infinite Summoning World

Chapter 51: The Weight of Their Names

There was a tinge of uncertainty in the two women's eyes.

Well, no normal kid would talk about death so freely. However, they did not truly know him — Auren had come from a world where people like the baron's boy were the very dregs of society. The pain and suffering they spread was not small at all.

But then again, if laws were strict and the consequences real, the noble brat would never have enough balls to do something like that. Even to his mother and Granny, the punishment of death seemed excessive — they did not put as much importance on the fact that a little girl was being forced, as one would in Auren's past world.

Well, to say it clearly, none of the gods of the five regions had Sacred writings of any kind in this world — no divine rules on how one should live a life. It was why the knowledge of the deeds happening in the Redwilds was known to everyone — even the emperor — but none of them saw those deeds as something demonic or satanic. To other regions, Redwild was just a bit too unstable and violent a place to live in. People still condemned acts such as having relations with a family member, looting, killing without any reason, and things that directly or indirectly affected a region's profit.

In short, what Earth would have been if there were no religions — but instead, massive, powerful fantasy creatures who were treated as gods. Which truly existed once, for real. Guess in a world where such fantasy creatures lived, a religion based on philosophy would indeed not be as popular.

"You are saying the Thornfield kid deserves death?" Sable asked with slight hesitation.

"I don't know. But I do know that if I had cut his hand instead of some random man in a fight — it would have been more just," Auren replied.

The night was much quieter in their house compared to usual nights — the incident and other things that had happened had sent them all into overthinking mode. Auren soon fell asleep, though. His body had slight pain and buzzing after using the Chi, as it always did as a Black Crest Summoner. He had more Chi in his body than most of the villagers, according to Dante, and that was after he had used most of it practicing aiming with his black projectiles. When he used more, it also affected his body more.

The people outside, sleeping in the open, had good tents, and all around them were torches lit bright as day — even then, they would not have dared to sleep outside if there was no wall around. There were so many new folks in the village, the Elders had just given them the task to kill the Thralls if any spawned or had remained from before. They had to do it if they wanted to sleep outside, so they accepted it eagerly.

They were too noisy all night long, though — too many people not sleeping and fooling around. This translation is powered by the readers at M|V|LE9MPYR.

The next day, Auren was woken up by Sable. She was already dressed up and was about to leave for the village.

"Don't bring your sword this time. I am proud of you for what you did. I'm sorry for not seeing it as such before. I am going ahead — the Earls and Barons have arrived all together. They are camping near the river."

Auren simply nodded as he rubbed his eyes and stood up. By the time he was done with all his morning routine and had breakfast — Granny made it clear he wouldn't be leaving without eating — he did so, and then Auren finally left his house. The tents had grown more, if that was possible. It looked like they had grown out of the ground overnight.

When Auren started walking towards the village, dressed in one of his normal everyday attires — Sable had taken out his fancy dress for him to wear, but Auren didn't really care about looking good today. It was not an event for him.

He had decided he would let Sable and Hanzo handle it all and only speak up if things were really bad. He would already be under scrutiny after injuring a knight of some other Baron. Fights, however, were not that big of an issue as long as the cause was justified — and theirs was. The issue was how Baron Wallace would react afterwards, and whether their Baron and Earl would make an effort to not let Thornfield have his way with them.

Granny mentioned, however, that there were two Earls — one their own and another from Primarch Hold. Hillwatch was the neighbour of Lowfield to the East. Despite being from another region, the Earl of Hillwatch and Lowfield had good relationships for years. Auren had not assumed the relationship to be so close as to even invite the Earl for a hunt.

Once Auren entered the busy village filled with soldiers, porters, camp boys, peddlers, all the different skilled professionals for mending armors and wagons, and a lot — a lot — of women. Quite pretty ones at that.

Camp-followers.

Before he could turn towards the riverbank, Auren heard someone call his name. Soon, he found a round-faced kid waving his hands from afar. It was Kenzo. The brat must have seen him leave his house and had followed behind. Most likely, he was not allowed to come out, so he must have sneaked out.

Auren waited for him, and then both walked near the big camp that was sprawled on both sides of the river. A somewhat flimsy, narrow bridge of theirs was being fully utilized by the soldiers and armored knights. It was a bit overkill for the Basilisk — not that he had seen the thing — but considering they were men of four Barons and two Earls, it wasn't actually that big.

On their way, Auren learned from the chattering mouths of villagers and their guests that, along with their own Baron Thornmarch and the Banner-lord Wallace Thornfield, the foreign neighbouring Earl had also brought his own two Barons from his region.

It was easy to notice who the Earl was and who the Barons were. Under the banyan tree where Auren and other kids usually took lessons, a big table was placed which was full of food and wine — two men were seated together in premium-looking attire with their kids. Two sons of Earl Cedric Cornvell, both in early twenties, that Auren knew — so the one on the left should be their Earl. On the right side were also two sons of the foreign Earl. But one was around 16 and another younger one barely 10 or 11.

Cedric Cornvell had a tall and athletic build, Auren could tell, compared to the heavy, wide foreign man with ginger-red hair and slight weight to him — Earl Braegor Vashil of Hillwatch.

There was a big animal sleeping next to the table — a weird wolf and bear hybrid. It had black stripes on it. Only after watching it for a few seconds and seeing another two smaller versions of it jumping around did Auren realize they were Wolverines. Had to be the summons of the foreign Earl and his sons.

The two camps on either side of the river looked like one united camp, but that was not the case, Auren realized. This side of the river, where the two Earls were, was actually a camp of three Greenvale nobles, while on the other side of the river were the three Primarch nobles.

The two Earls, however, were seated together and even eating and drinking at one table, showing their close bond. Barons usually never had good relationships with one another, no matter where they were from.

Auren entered the camp and no one stopped him — well, knights were standing on guard near the Earls, but all other places in the camp were free for people to roam around. Well, mostly for children — the adults with weapons were still stopped at the camp perimeter.

Auren and Kenzo could see from afar where the group of five Elders and their two Barons with Hanzo were. Sable was in another tent at a bit of a distance, where Auren could see their Lord's daughter, with whom he had talked before. She too was dressed like a warrior this time. There was another little girl with her, wrapped in the silkiest leather armor attire Auren had seen. It was clearly meant more for show than actual usage. There was a monkey near them, playing with some iron toy that made sound on movement.

Sable and the teenage girl were busy talking — the little girl was paying full attention. For a second, as he kept looking towards them, his eyes met with the little girl's — and he felt like the wind had suddenly started to crush his body. But the sensation only remained for a fraction of a second. He wasn't even sure if it truly happened or if he was just suddenly scared for his life for some reason.

Auren ignored them and walked towards Hanzo and the Elders, busy making their case before the two Barons.

Auren did not miss the massive eagle flying high above them. But he stepped forward nonetheless.
