30 Years in Whitebeard’s Crew, I Became Invincible

Chapter 149: Chapter 149: The Arrogant Doflamingo

The flaw of the Tontatta Tribe?

They were too trusting.

If you firmly claimed to be a good person, they would believe you without question.

This was simply how their race was wired, though not all Tontattas were like this. Roy had met others who were cunning and shrewd.

But the Tontattas of Dressrosa were different. They trusted too easily.

If they encountered genuinely good people, all was well. But if they met evil ones? Their fate was sealed.

In the end, a race that couldn't control its own destiny was a tragic one.

The little Tontatta led Roy toward Green Bit, the small island adjacent to Dressrosa.

"You have to step lightly. There are fighting fish down below; they're very fierce. Don't speak loudly, or you'll attract them," the tiny guide warned.

"Got it." Roy treaded carefully.

But the fighting fish noticed them anyway. Upon spotting shadows on the bridge, one surged upward.

"AHHH!"

The little Tontatta was startled. Roy calmly glanced at the charging fish, and it froze mid-air, terrified to move any closer.

A mere flicker of his aura sent every Fighting Fish beneath the bridge fleeing in panic. instantly.

"It's fine now. Let's keep moving." Roy cupped the trembling Tontatta in his palm, the poor little guy still covering his eyes in fear.

Finally, they arrived at Green Bit, home of the Tontatta Kingdom.

The current ruler was Chief Gancho.

"Troop Leader Leo, this nice giant human says he wants to meet the King," said the Tontatta who led Roy.

"Appo, you can't just bring people here. What if he's not a good guy? Doflamingo tricked so many of our people that way," said a green-clothed Tontatta, raising a tiny spear in front of Roy.

"Wait… are you a bad guy?" Apo gasped, turning to Roy.

"No," Roy said.

"See? He said no!"

"Then who are you?"

"I'm a pirate."

"Oh! A pirate!" Leo lowered his spear.

"WHAT?! You're a pirate? Just like Doflamingo?! Then you're a bad guy!" Leo shouted.

"BEEP~~!"

Leo blew his whistle, and a swarm of Tontatta surrounded Roy in an instant.

"Who is this?" came a voice, as an elderly Tontatta wearing a crown and holding a scepter stepped out.

Roy recognized him; it was indeed King Gancho.

"Hello, King Gancho," Roy greeted.

"Your Majesty, this guy is a pirate, just like Doflamingo! We should drive him away. Please step back," Leo warned.

"Wait a moment. Sir, why have you come to see us? Are you here, like the Donquixote Family, to harm us?" Gancho asked.

"Not at all. Our pirate crew owns a territory located in the Calm Belt. The island grows many fruits. If your people are willing, I can relocate your entire tribe there, where you'll no longer be threatened by war," Roy offered.

"Thank you for your kindness, but we will not leave. This is our homeland," King Gancho replied.

"I see. That was presumptuous of me. May I hear your history instead? I enjoy old stories," Roy said, sitting down peacefully.

"Though you're a pirate, you don't seem ill-intentioned. Our Tontatta Kingdom has a long history, likely over a thousand years. Long ago, we were enslaved by the Donquixote Family for who knows how long. But 800 years ago, we encountered the Riku Family, who allowed us to recover and live in peace. We will never leave this land. We will overthrow the Donquixote Family and drive out Doflamingo," Gancho declared.

"What a pity, no historical documents?" Roy asked.

"None remain. The Donquixote Family destroyed all records of our former kings," Gancho said.

Though Roy held little respect for the Riku Family, he had to admit that over the past 800 years, they had ruled Dressrosa fairly well. Apart from making the kingdom a little poor, they hadn't done any major harm.

At least the Tontatta people were no longer slaves, and their society had advanced.

They talked more about the past 800 years. Roy learned they owed much to Montblanc Noland, who taught them how to cultivate plants, skills that sadly brought them back into the Donquixote Family's crosshairs.

Their trusting nature had even led to their princess being kidnapped.

"Thank you for your hospitality." After sharing a meal, Roy left Green Bit.

"An interesting little adventure."

As he walked alone across the iron bridge, halfway through, someone blocked his path.

Under the dim moonlight, once the clouds passed, Roy saw a pink-feathered coat, bow-legged stance, and both hands buried in his pockets.

"Sneaking around, huh? How'd you undo the toy curse?" Doflamingo swaggered forward, arrogance oozing.

"You found me already? Impressive." Roy smirked.

"This is Dressrosa. My territory. You think I wouldn't notice?"

"That's fair. It is easy to get spotted here. But how about you just pretend you didn't see me? We're not interfering with each other. I'll be gone in a few days," Roy replied.

"You haven't even explained what you did. What method did you use to break the curse on the toys? And how did you figure out they were transformed by Devil Fruit powers?" Doflamingo now stood directly in front of Roy, looking down at him.

Standing over 3 meters tall, Doflamingo towered above Roy, who was just under 2 meters.

Roy raised his head and looked him straight in the eye. Moonlight fell across Roy's face, and in that moment, Doflamingo saw clearly.

And froze.

He stood there, stiff as a board, sweat beading on his forehead.

Just for a second… he forgot to breathe.

'No way…"'

'Why is he here?'

Roy clapped him on the pink coat. "I'll let it slide. We'll settle this another time. You'd better win, or everything here will be mine."

Then he casually walked past Doflamingo.

Still frozen in place, Doflamingo watched as Roy strolled off, humming, wine flask in hand, admiring the night view as he walked toward the glowing lights of Dressrosa.

Just hours ago, reports had placed Roy at Egghead, wreaking havoc. Now he was here?

"Did he come for the Phoenix Fruit? Where did that thing even come from?"

He reached for his Den Den Mushi.

BANG!

His sunglasses flew off. Doflamingo dropped to the ground, clutching his ear. Blood smeared across his face and hands.
