"Sorry, I don't have the registration form with me right now. The club recruitment is actually outside the auditorium. Would you mind waiting here while I go get it?"
Yukinoshita Yahan was a decisive person. Having obtained the result she wanted, she needed to solidify it immediately.
"There's no need for you to make another trip, senpai. How about this—senpai gives me your Line, and once I'm done handling my current tasks, I'll come find you at the club recruitment booth."
As he spoke, Fujihara Toru had already taken out his phone.
Yukinoshita Yahan raised an eyebrow, her lips curling into a sly smile. "Fujihara-kun, are you sure you're not just making up an excuse to ask for my Line?"
"It’s true that I want your Line, but it’s also true that I have things to take care of right now."
Fujihara Toru glanced behind Yukinoshita Yahan. His biological father and his wife had been waiting for quite some time now—he had noticed them long ago.
Yukinoshita Yahan casually took out her phone and exchanged Line contacts with Fujihara Toru. She shook her phone lightly and said, "Then it’s settled. Don’t back out on me, Fujihara-kun."
With that, Yukinoshita Yahan prepared to leave temporarily. But when she turned around and saw the two people standing behind her, she froze for a moment.
They were familiar faces to her. With a perfect smile befitting a younger relative, she approached them and greeted warmly, "Uncle, Aunt."
Fujihara Yoshitaka nodded, signaling his wife with a glance.
His wife immediately understood what her husband meant. She reached out and held Yukinoshita Yahan’s hand, asking with concern, "Yahan, it’s been such a long time since we last met. Shall we talk over there?"
Yukinoshita Yahan glanced at Fujihara Yoshitaka thoughtfully before replying obediently, "Alright."
Letting her aunt pull her away, she caught sight of her uncle walking toward Fujihara Toru from the corner of her eye.
After leaving the backstage room of the auditorium and stepping into the hallway, Yukinoshita Yahan didn’t wait for her aunt to speak first. Instead, she asked directly, "What’s Fujihara-kun’s relationship with Uncle?"
"They’re father and son by blood."
Her aunt’s expression darkened as she replied hesitantly.
"Why haven’t I heard about this before?"
"It’s… complicated."
"Is that so? Then I won’t ask further."
Yukinoshita Yahan had already guessed the gist of the matter. She wouldn’t pry any further, sparing her aunt from feeling embarrassed.
If it were her younger sister here, though, she would have relentlessly pursued the truth until everything was laid bare. Snowflake—that was her sister’s name—was someone who valued honesty above all else, often disregarding «N.o.v.e.l.i.g.h.t» others’ feelings in pursuit of the truth.
In polite terms, one might call her independent-minded; less kindly, one might say she lacked tact and social awareness. More accurately, she could be described as somewhat "chuunibyou," or stuck in a self-absorbed, idealistic phase.
And mocking her younger sister was one of Yukinoshita Yahan’s favorite pastimes.
As she walked alongside her aunt, memories of her family affairs surfaced in Yahan’s mind.
The Yukinoshita family was considered a prestigious clan in the Chiba region. While they couldn’t compare to those aristocratic families with centuries of lineage, they still held significant influence locally and possessed considerable wealth.
Her grandfather had two daughters—her mother and her aunt.
Since both were women who needed to inherit the family estate, it was inevitable that the Yukinoshitas would choose sons-in-law to marry into the family.
Yahan’s father had married into the Yukinoshita family, which made her mother the head of the household, while her father managed various business operations.
For families like theirs, aside from the heir, the remaining children either pursued love freely without interference or were arranged into political marriages.
Her aunt hadn’t been forced into an arranged marriage but instead was given the freedom to pursue her own romantic interests.
No one expected that her aunt would fall in love with the second son of the Fujihara family—none other than Fujihara Yoshitaka.
This wasn’t just a successful marriage alliance—it was also based on genuine affection. At the time, Yahan’s grandfather had been overjoyed, believing that his younger daughter was truly fortunate.
But misfortune never comes singly. After her aunt’s marriage, she failed to conceive a child—a critical issue for a family that relied heavily on inheritance.
Desperate measures were taken, and both her aunt and uncle underwent medical examinations. The final verdict was devastating: her aunt was unable to bear children.
This was a severe blow to both the Fujihara and Yukinoshita families. Divorce would have been entirely understandable under such circumstances.
However, Fujihara Yoshitaka had already entered politics and was climbing the ranks. A divorce would undoubtedly harm his political career.
Moreover, the two had genuinely loved each other during their school days, so they chose not to separate despite the lack of heirs.
But the absence of children placed her aunt in a difficult position within the Fujihara household. Rumors suggested that Fujihara Yoshitaka’s father had lost his temper more than once over the matter.
"Yahan… do you… do you know that Fujihara Toru?"
Her aunt’s voice trembled with fear as she asked cautiously.
Yukinoshita Yahan looked into her aunt’s hopeful eyes and sighed inwardly.
Her aunt and mother had a strained relationship—so strained that calling them enemies wouldn’t be far off.
Her mother had essentially been forced into marrying someone she didn’t love, shouldering the burden of the family business, while her aunt enjoyed the freedom to love and eventually married into a prominent family.
Back then, her young and fiery aunt had said many harsh words, causing the sisters to become estranged. Whenever her mother mentioned her younger sister, bitterness filled her expression.
And now, Yukinoshita Yahan could even guess what her aunt wanted her to do.
