Zombie Apocalypse: Am I Counted As 10 People?!

Chapter 16: On the Way-2

After twenty miles, they were forced to stop.

The vehicles were completely stuck. It would take even longer if William pushed all the cars. So they had to leave the motorcycles behind.

There was no guarantee that everything would go according to plan.

They took all their belongings with them and continued on foot.

William realized that he had killed almost twice as many zombies since the north crossroads.

There were also plenty of zombie animals on the side of the road.

So far, he had killed five zombie deer, more than eight zombie rabbits, and five or six zombie squirrels. They weren't very strong, but they were as fast as a rocket.

William struggled to protect himself.

Then there was a great silence.

A five-mile silence. William couldn't hear any sound. He leveled up and added the points he earned to his PERCEPTION stat, but he still couldn't hear or sense anything…

Finally, Austin broke the silence.

"What is your blessing, William?" They hadn't talked much, but Austin thought they needed to talk a little to become more familiar with each other.

William thought for a few seconds. He thought they would be jealous if he told them what his blessing was. So he quickly made up a lie.

"My gift is weapon mastery. The more I work with weapons, the more skilled I become. Cold weapons ofcourse." He smiled slightly and asked as he continued to examine his surroundings. "What are yours?"

Austin nodded as soon as he heard the answer. "I could tell from how easily you mowed down the zombies."

"Mine is mechanic. Then Austin turned his head and looked at Elura.

"Elura's is multitasking." Elura nodded.

"But we haven't figured it out yet, the explanation of the blessing is very limited." Austin shook his head.

"I see…" William nodded. "What did you do before the disaster?" He asked curiously. He believed he could solve their problem because he felt something.

Austin answered on behalf of both himself and Elura.

"I was a mechanic, and Elura was a waitress."

"Mechanic: Repairing mechanical tools +50% Damage detection +50%."

"Multitasking: You can perform multiple tasks at the same time Capacity +2(Max)."

William shook his head. "It's very simple."

He then walked over to a car and pulled Austin over to him. "What do you see?"

Austin shook his head and looked carefully. "I don't see any problems... At least, there don't seem to be any problems with the engine."

William shook his head and pulled Austin aside. "Now turn around." After Austin turned around, he went to the same car and removed a few screws, parts, and pipes from the engine.

Then he brought Austin to the front of the car. "Now take a look, but don't get too close."

Austin nodded and looked carefully at the car's engine for a few seconds. Then he began to feel something strange.

It was as if there was a noise coming from the engine. Some of the parts he saw were making a different sound than normal. He reached out and touched the parts of the engine he couldn't see. Suddenly, he found the problem. Then he found two more problems.

Then he heard William's voice. "That's it. Could you have found the problem this quickly before?"

Austin shook his head. "No, I couldn't have found these problems without completely dismantling the engine."

"That's it, that's your blessing.

Then he turned to Elura. "I think your ability is much simpler and easier to understand. I assume you worked at a very intense pace before the disaster?"

Elura nodded. "That's right, I was a head waitress."

William pulled two nails from the boards by the roadside and gave them to Elura.

He then took her to the front of a car and told her to write something with both hands at the same time.

Elura was a little hesitant at first, but she decided to give it a try and started writing.

Contrary to her expectations, she was able to write beautifully with both hands.

"That's your blessing. Actually, both of your blessings are perfect. Especially you, Austin, your ability will be very helpful to the people in shelter."

Austin nodded. Being able to help people survive was good news for him.

"At least I'll be useful," he thought.

"Both of your blessings are quite useful. I've already thought of a few useful systems, but I don't know the situation in shelter where we're going. How many people are there? Are they all soldiers, or are there civilians? What are their abilities? Without knowing these things, any systems we set up will be meaningless, but our top priority will definitely be survival." William gave the pair a short but effective speech. Then he turned around and killed a zombie running towards them by throwing his dagger.

The dagger happened to hit the zombie right in the middle of its forehead.

"That's why we must first become stronger. Since the system has given us a way to gain power, we must use it to the fullest. We must discover what the system is and how it works, and act accordingly. We must uncover its secrets and rise above them."

William walked over and pulled the dagger out of the dead zombie's head. At that moment, he heard a notification.

[Throwing Mastery I: Increases the accuracy of small weapons such as daggers, knives, and similar weapons. +5%]

William smiled in a manner befitting his face. "We are the pioneers of this new world system. We must experience the summit; we must be explorers."

William pointed to Elura's belly with his hand. "For them."

Elura looked at her belly and clenched her teeth.

Although William was younger than them and perhaps less experienced in life, he was definitely a better speaker than them.

Elura clenched the machete in her hand. Then she looked at Austin next to her. His situation was no different from hers; he was full of ambition and determination. No one could understand a father's ambition and determination for his child.

She reached out and touched Austin's clenched fist. Austin's hand relaxed and gently held Elura's hand.

They looked at each other and nodded.

William smiled when he saw them.

He didn't want to be alone.

His blessing seemed to condemn him to a compulsory loneliness, but he would do everything in his power to prevent that.

On his journey, he would gain brothers, sisters, uncles, nephews, and many other non-blood relatives, and he would bury the loneliness his family had left him with as best he could with new friendships.

William turned his back on the pair. To hide his tears.

He looked up at the sky and took a deep breath.

"I think the weather is going to close in." He could see rain clouds drifting in the distance, and the wind had grown cooler. This pointed to one thing: the summer rains that came a few times each year.

William began walking ahead.

As he cleared the way for the couple, he crippled most of the zombies instead of killing them, trying to help them level up a little.

After a while, they came to a crossroads. Austin and William looked around and found a few broken and fallen signs. They looked at the names on the signs on the map and figured out exactly where they were. On the left was Old Telludure.

People had built a city called New Telludure because of the environmental conditions and flat terrain. Old Telludure, on the other hand, remained small, lifeless, and frail, with a very small population. William had never been here.

He had no memories of this place, even with his father and mother.

The right side led to the main road going to the east of the continent and the country. So the eastern option was completely impossible.

"What do you think?" William looked up at the sky, which was beginning to darken. "Shall we spend the night at Old Telludure?"

Austin and Elura looked at each other. They shook their heads at the same time.

William was still unsure about traveling at night, even though he had learned many abilities that helped him hide at night, and like everyone else, he was afraid.

In the middle of nowhere, alone, in the dark, he was sure that the silence would suffocate him. That's why he was looking for a place to spend the night, and most importantly, a place where they could shelter from the rain.

Old Telludure was only a short five-mile journey.

"Later, we can take the small village road on the map, and there may not be any cars on the road, so we can find a car and continue on our way."

Austin shook his head. "The village road sounds scarier. Who knows what we'll encounter on the way?"

Elura agreed with Austin. "So far, we haven't seen any animals bigger than small zombie deer. What if we encounter a zombie predator? I'm sure it will be much stronger than normal."

William frowned and thought for a few seconds.

Elura was right. It was a known fact that bears roamed these mountains. Not just bears, but wolves, snakes, and even bison a little further northwest... Things could get even more dangerous from here on out.

William heard a few birds chirping, but he hadn't had the chance to see any live animals yet.

That was what he feared most. What if wild animals had a system like humans? What if they had also become stronger and gained levels? These things were not unheard of in movies and TV shows.

That was why he was afraid. Now, the thought of not being the predator at the top...

William shook his head and pushed these thoughts aside. By this time, they had reached the entrance to the village.

Austin and Elura, working together perfectly, stabbed a fat zombie wearing a straw hat and jeans overalls from both sides.

In no time, the couple reached the zombie's brain and tore it to pieces.

William's ears heard several sounds.

"Get away from the crops.

After saying this, he lunged forward and stuck his katana into the crops on the ground.

It was a snake. A dead, zombie snake. Although it was a level one, the EXP it gave was the same as an ordinary zombie.

He then saw a few rats, zombie rats, and eliminated them one by one.

They continued walking toward the village along the main road.

The village did not welcome them, who were city dwellers, warmly.

Cold, lifeless eyes. Fortunately, the highest-level zombie was third level.

When William, Austin, and Elura attacked the zombie villagers, the only sound that came out was the low growls of the zombies.

Occasionally, the rapid breathing of the three living humans could be heard.

Today, they would go to bed exhausted.
