Yu-Gi-Oh: I have a Card Printing Skill!

Chapter 23: Very Bold When Building Deck

Inside the quiet room at the Slifer Red dorm, Yumi is busy restructuring his deck. Although his Sky Striker Ace, HEROes, Exosister, and Kuriboh were good, they still don't fit what he is going for.

Most of his decks are filled with card spirits, giving him the power to draw cards similar to a Yu-Gi-Oh protagonist.

Real card players often used the same series or series that could interact with each other to build a deck. This could ensure the efficiency of the high-speed operation of the deck, reduce the dead draw rate, and facilitate smooth deployment.

But weaknesses were also obvious.

A deck built with a series as its core must have a theme, and the entire deck system must have a core theme. For example, in some decks the monsters were all of the same type, some had the same attributes, and some series relied heavily on a certain core card to operate.

This left the deck with a fatal weakness.

For example, Cyber Dragon. The monsters in the entire system were all Machine, making this deck almost helpless against the power of "System Down".

Even his Sky Striker Deck has a fatal weakness upon facing a stunned deck that locks out Spell Cards, like "Imperial Order".

If the opponent had information in advance and knew the system, theme, and key points of your deck from the beginning, it would be very easy to target them.

No matter how strong the top deck was, it had its own weaknesses. The Yu-Gi-Oh card pool was bottomless. As long as you knew what the opponent was playing in advance, you could easily target them to death.

Yumi has noticed some students have been testing out stun cards, focusing on stopping his spell, and trying to take him down. Still, they failed, unable to combat his ability to draw any cards he needed in his deck.

This reminded him of Yugi Muto, who is very bold when building his deck.

You would not be able to make tactical arrangements based on Yugi's deck construction.

Because there was absolutely no way to do that.

It was no exaggeration to say that the deck of Yugi was a mess. His deck had a lot of messy systems, and each system could be taken out to build a new deck that worked well.

For example, the Dark Magician series, the Magnet Warrior series, the Black Luster Soldier series, the Buster Blader series, the Gaia The Fierce Knight series, the Magician Girl series, etc…

Such a large number of types, attributes, tactical systems, and playing methods were all stuffed together. How to deal with them?

But maybe this was how a true boss was built.

Even Jaden is like this, despite his main deck being Elemental HERO theme, he also has a few miscellaneous cards in his deck.

For example, during Season 4 of GX, when Jaden became a senior, one of his juniors challenged him to a duel. Using a spell and trap locked deck to stun Jaden from playing any spell or trap, and nearly pulling a win.

Until Jaden suddenly pulls out a few non-HEROes or Neo-Spacian monster cards to help him pull off the win, cards that nobody in the real world would ever put into their HEROes or Neos Deck.

Even the third series of Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds! The protagonist, Yusei Fudo, got his deck and motorcycle confiscated and sent to prison. He then used the card gathered from the other prisoners, built a functional deck, and defeated the warden, who had been abusing his power and authority to pick on the prisoners, to took their deck and cards.

This shows that only protagonists could make almost any cards work together, as long as they can draw cards.

So now Yumi, who has a cheat that lets him recreate the protagonist's drawing skill, began putting cards from different series into one deck.

The Duel with Gloria and Grace only tests out his HEROes series, mixed with a few Kuriboh and miscellaneous support cards. Still not even scratching the surface level of the Duel King.

"Hmm... brick hands again." Yumi murmurs after shuffling his deck and draws 5 cards, revealing Polymerization, Sky Striker Maneuver - Jamming Waves!, Dinomorphia Sonic, Monster Reborn, and Berserker Soul.

"Maybe Duel Spirits could only help me so much with drawing cards; the other part still relies on my own abilities to draw cards." He murmurs to himself before disassembling his deck of mismatched cards.

Maybe stuffing series from 7 different decks together isn't going so well.

"Let's try this again." After adjusting the different series to around three. Yumi drew his cards before he smiled.

E - Emergency Call, Sky Striker Ace - Raye, Polymerization, The Flute of Summoning Kuriboh, Take Over 5.

"A playable hand, this is a good start." He murmurs, satisfied, before placing the cards back and testing his card-drawing skill again.

"Master! Why are you leaving me out!?" Yuki-Onna appeared beside him, complaining of being left out of his main deck; she doesn't even have a spot on his second deck.

"Isn't it obvious? You aren't that compatible with Master." Raye appeared, hand on her hip and speaking in a smug tone.

This caused the ghost girl to get a bit angry, but knowing that Raye could stomp her, she didn't say anything and just disappeared back into her card.

Meanwhile, at the duel arena.

Celina was stretching her muscles as she waited for Bastion to come, ready for her duel with the Ra Yellow.

She looked at her deck, recalling just how powerful her roommate suddenly became.

Her thought was cut short as she heard footsteps at the entrance, coming.

"Sorry for the little delay," Bastion appeared, explaining his reason. "Chumley was asking questions on why a Ra was here, and did some last-minute deck building that I lost track of time."

He steps into the duel arena.

"Oh, don't worry about that," Celina held her deck and placed it in her duel disk, "Just be prepared to lose."

"We'll see about that!" Bastion inserted his deck inside his duel disk.

"C'mon, Sy! We're gonna miss the duel!" Jaden yelled out as Syrus was running behind him.

"I'm coming, Jay!" Syrus yelled out as he got to the arena and saw that they hadn't started yet, "Look, I think they are gonna start!"

"Sweet! Wait, where is AIBO?" Jaden questioned, looking around and not seeing Yumi anywhere.

After Yumi and Jaden duel against Gloria and Grace, Celina asks Bastion to play cards with her, as she wanted to test out her strength after seeing her roommate's massive improvement.

Sure, she isn't weak, but compared to Yumi, she really couldn't match up with him if he decides not to hold back.

"DUEL!" x2

[Celina, LP 4000]

[Bastion, LP 4000]

"So, who is gonna start first?" Celina asked as Bastion took a good look at his hand.

"Well, since my deck could go first or second pretty well, your deck could only get well if they are second," Bastion stated as he looked at Celina, "So you can go first."

"Cocky, aren't we? But sure, I will show you how wrong you are. Draw!" She drew her card and took a good look at it.

It was a good hand, but what Bastion said was correct, this deck is amazing going second, going first won't work well with her deck.

But it won't stop her, as she took out a card from her hand, "I summon Lunalight Blue Cat!"

The blue, feminine cat steps onto the field, a playful smirk on her face.

[Lunalight Blue Cat, 1600 ATK]

She then took a card from her hand; "I set a face down and end my turn!"

A card was set behind the Blue Cat.

"My turn! Draw!" Bastion drew his card and looked at it.

He had a perfect hand for this. He took out one of the cards, "I send Duoterion to my graveyard so I can activate its effect."

A dinosaur made out of dirty water appeared as an afterimage behind Bastion, before disappearing. "I can add a Bonding card from my deck to my hand." Bastion took out his deck, took a certain card from his hand, and returned his deck into his duel disk.

Bastion then took the just-added card from his hand, "I think it would be the appropriate time to play it! I activate Bonding - Combustion!"

A couple of test tubes appeared on the field in front of Bastion, "I then tribute 2 Oxygeddon from my deck, and 1 Carboneddon from my hand, so I can make a chemical reaction and get the result of my monsters!"

Two dragons covered in green water and a small dragon made out of carbon both appeared onto the field, only for them to be sucked into one of the test tubes. For a split second, it looked like everything was in control, and then it exploded, making a huge dragon made out of living fire.

"The monster that caused this reaction is my Fire Dragon!"

[Fire Dragon, 2800 ATK]

If Yumi were here, he might voice the thought of many GX fans back in the day.

This was due to Bastion showing a Water Dragon and a Fire Dragon standing beside him during the opening theme.

But only the Water Dragon is shown and got printed into a card, while the Fire Dragon never appears even once. This caused many fans who were interested in the Chemical archetype to feel like they had been tricked and lied to.

"Woah, that is so cool!" Jaden yelled out as he looked at the dragon with sparkles in his eyes.

"No, Jaden, that is hot." Bastion joked.

Everyone: "..."

No one thought that was funny.

"I need to work on my jokes," He muttered while taking a card from his graveyard. "Anyways, I activate Carboneddon's effect."

A card appeared out of his graveyard, to which the Ra Yellow took, "I can banish it so I can special summon a Level 7 or lower normal Dragon monster from my deck."

Bastion took out his deck, took a specific card, and placed it on his duel disk. "I summon Hyozanryu in defense mode!"

A diamond appeared on his field, a massive one in fact, bigger than Syrus. The diamond started to hatch, like an egg, before exploding in dramatic fashion and revealing the dragon that Bastion summoned.

The dragon had light blue skin with decent-sized wings and a massive horn on its head, but was in defense mode due to the effect of Carboneddon.

[Hyozanryu, 2800 DEF]

Celine frowned, seeing this kind of operation now reminded her of Yumi, although not as powerful as his, this is still decently strong.

"I think it's time to attack! Fire Dragon attacks your Blue Cat with Hellfire Storm!" Bastion yelled out as Fire Dragon shot a powerful beam of fire that caused a massive storm that engulfed the blue cat girl, destroying Lunalight Blue Cat.

"Trap card open! Lunalight Resurrection Dance!" The trap card flipped open, causing the sky to darken and a bright full moon to appear high above.

From where they stood, the silhouettes of two figures could be seen dancing up there.

"Not just that, I'll also chain this with my Blue Cat's effect, when she is destroyed by battle or card effect, I get to Special Summon 1 Lunalight monster from my deck!"

Celina pulls out her deck, searching for her cards before placing it down on the field.

"I Special Summon Lunalight Gold Leo!"

A goofy-looking lion girl appeared, waving her hand excitedly before kneeling down with her arms crossed, still having that goofy grin on her face.

[Lunalight Gold Leo, 1600 DEF]

"Now, I'll add Lunalight Crimson Fox and White Rabbit to my hand!" The two figures dancing under the full moon finally descend as the sky turns back to normal, with Celina holding up the two cards she just added to her hand.

"But I'm not done, Gold Leo's effect activates! When this card is Normal or Special Summoned, I can add a Lunalight monster to my hand, then discard 1 card."

The lion girl did a silly dance as Celina pulled her deck out again, picking another card.

"I'll add Lunalight Black Sheep to my hand." Placing the new card into her hand, she shuffled her deck and placed it back into her deck slot, before sending one card to her grave. "I discarded the Card of Compensation! When this card is discarded, I get to draw two more cards!"

She quickly drew two more cards, adding them to her hand.

"Impressive." Bastion complement. "Card of Compensation, this is the first time I've heard of a card like that."

Despite being a nerd who likes to study deck strategy and plan ahead before duels, Bastion knew most cards during the time of DMs and GX eras. Seeing new cards has always somewhat interested him.

He doesn't know about this card is quite understandable, since this is a manga exclusive card, never printed in the real world or shown in the anime.

Celina just smirked. "I know a good card dealer with pink hair."

Since she views them as friends, she doesn't see any harm in revealing where she obtained a few of her cards.

"I see, so this is from Yumi." Bastion murmurs quickly, catching on, since there is no one else on campus who has pink hair.

"Did she mean Yumi gave her that card?" Syrus said, before he began daydreaming about Yumi handing him god-tier cards, and he eventually became the strongest duelist in Duel Academy.

"Isn't AIBO's hair magenta?" Jaden question.

"Well, I think his hair color is a bit more of a magenta from the Crayola color formula, also known as Brilliant Rose, but the name was changed in 1958 to magenta." Bastion said in a matter-of-fact tone.

Celina: "..."

Syrus: "..."

Jaden: "?"

Fire Dragon: "..."

Hyozanryu: "..."

"Right, I also need to work on that too." Bastion muttered while scratching the back of his head awkwardly. Not everyone is interested in random, useless facts.

Besides, Brilliant Rose just sounded like a fancier way of saying pink.
