You’re The Baby’s Father ?

Chapter 4

Chapter 4

No matter how things had turned out, the situation had deviated too much from the original story, and that made Enria uneasy.

More than anything, the fact that it was the Magic Tower—rather than Rahar—seeking her life left her completely at a loss for how to handle it.

The reality of It all was so overwhelming and suffocating that she could hardly breathe.

With her head throbbing, Enria furrowed her brows repeatedly.

“Well, in any case, since my sister asked me to protect you, I will honor her request,” Rahar said.

He looked at Enria with a face that seemed somewhat irritated, then continued speaking.

“Letting the former mistress of my sister’s future husband die wouldn’t be an issue, but my foolishly kind sister still cares enough to be concerned.”

At those words, Enria’s expression stiffened slightly.

His words had rubbed her the wrong way—no, they had really rubbed her the wrong way.

Perhaps the fact that the man she had to be most wary of in this life had shifted from Rahar to the Magic Tower made her fear of him lessen a little.

Embracing her displeasure fully, Enria spoke to Rahar.

“Mistress? You shouldn’t speak like that in front of someone. It’s quite ungentlemanly.”

Rahar’s eyebrows shot up at her remark, but Enria didn’t care and continued.

“And I told you—I’m not a mistress anymore. In fact, I never was. Your sister and my ex-lover aren’t even married yet.”

“Well, even so, their engagement has been public knowledge for several months…”

“That’s why we broke up,” Enria cut him off, her voice firm.

Rahar stared at her in silence for a moment before letting out a short sigh and responding.

“Well, let’s say that’s the case.”

“It’s not as if—it is the case.”

“Yes, yes, I’ll think of it that way.”

“…Anyway, thank you for saving me.”

Enria lowered her head slightly as she expressed her gratitude, causing Rahar’s expression to become somewhat complicated.

“Well, in any case, you need to hide from the mages of the Magic Tower. Settling in one place would be too dangerous, so for the time being, it would be best to move from place to place—”

“But I’m pregnant.”

“—Move around and hide… Wait, what?”

Rahar’s words came to an abrupt halt.

“Search every single corner without exception.”

“Yes, sir!”

“Yes, Your Grace!”

The knights, who had bowed deeply to Caldeon, quickly turned and left the room.

Without hesitation, Caldeon turned as well, pressing the communication device to contact Fioren, the leader of the empire’s most renowned intelligence agency.

[Yes, Your Grace?]

“Someone has taken Enria. She must be found immediately.”

Arsen, Caldeon’s aide, who had been handling paperwork in the background, cast a worried glance at his superior conversing with Fioren.

It had been his Idea to relocate Enria to a secluded place, ensuring that she wouldn’t interfere with Caldeon’s marriage—an arrangement directly overseen by the emperor.

The estate had been meticulously chosen, filtered through countless options to find a place no one could easily discover.

Yet, Count Dalbreon, that cunning serpent, had plotted against Enria.

Dalbreon was the business partner of Count Kaznaren, the man who had worked tirelessly to ensure Roseanne Kaznaren became the Grand Duchess.

Desperate to remove Enria, who could obstruct Roseanne’s impending title, they had somehow managed to uncover Caldeon’s secret: that he had sent Enria to Endeli.

Fearing for her safety, they had begun making preparations to counter Count Dalbreon while searching for a new safe location.

Then, a letter from Enria had arrived.

Arsen didn’t know what was written in that letter.

But the moment Caldeon received it, he had abandoned everything and rushed to Endeli.

‘And yet… right before his eyes, she disappeared into another man’s arms. A mage, no less. What the hell is going on?’

Arsen let out a long sigh, lowering his gaze to the pile of paperwork he had been stuck with all day.

The realization that he would be working overtime until Enria was found made him want to cry, but he held back and continued with his work.

Rahar blinked a few times before cautiously asking again.

“You… did what?”

“I said I’m pregnant. Ah, but don’t misunderstand. Just because I’m pregnant doesn’t mean I plan to go back to the Grand Duke’s estate. And of course, Lord Caldeon will never know about this for the rest of his life.”

“…Good heavens.”

The color drained from Rahar’s face.

“What else was I supposed to do? I only found out after we had already separated. It’s not like I could get rid of the baby. I agonized over this decision for a long time, but in the end, I decided to have the child.

Of course, you might think that this baby could become an obstacle to your sister’s happiness. And yes, I can see how that might be the case. But I swear, neither my child nor I will ever get involved with Lord Caldeon again. The fact that he is the father will be a secret I take to my grave.”

Enria did her best to convince Rahar, afraid that the revelation of her pregnancy would make him reconsider killing her.

At first, she regretted telling him, but it was something he would have to know sooner or later.

She had no idea how long she would be on the run, and she could end up in another life-threatening situation like today.

Not to mention, her belly would start showing soon enough.

Since Rahar had already decided to help her, he would eventually find out, and she figured that telling him too late might only breed more resentment.

But seeing the way he was staring at her, frozen and pale as a sheet, she couldn’t help but regret it.

She feared that he might change his mind and kill her on the spot, so she braced herself, carefully considering an escape route.

Not that running away would guarantee her safety.

After all, the one hunting her now was none other than the archvillain of the original story—the Lord of the Magic Tower.

‘Then… should I go to Caldeon and ask him to protect me?’

He had surely cast her out of the Grand Duke’s estate because his relationship with Roseanne was more important to him.

There was no guarantee that he would protect her now, especially when he was planning a future with Roseanne.

But could she trust the man in front of her?

Not at all.

Rahar was dangerous—he had killed Enria in the original story for the sake of his sister.

The fact that he was here now, helping her only because of his sister’s request, proved that he was no different from the Rahar in the novel.

‘What the hell is happening to me?’

Enria pressed a hand to her throbbing forehead and gazed out the window.

She had only wanted to live a peaceful life, yet somehow, she had ended up in this nightmare.

She had no idea how to survive when not only Rahar but also the original story’s villain, the Lord of the Magic Tower, was after her life.

As she was lost in these overwhelming and despairing thoughts, Rahar suddenly spoke.

“Then we’ll need to find a place where you can rest safely.”

Enria’s eyes widened in shock.

But just then, Rahar, who had been scanning outside the window, suddenly tensed.

His face hardened in an instant, and before she could react, he grabbed her arm and pulled her into his embrace.

BOOOOM!!

A deafening explosion erupted, shaking the entire carriage violently.

Holding Enria tightly, Rahar threw open the carriage door and leaped outside.

At that moment, a massive fireball hurtled toward the carriage, breaking through its magical defenses, which had already been half-destroyed.

The carriage was obliterated in midair in an instant.

“Kyaaaah! Ahhh!”

“Hold on to me!”

As Enria, caught in midair, let out panicked screams, Rahar shouted at her.

Desperate to survive, she clung to him, squeezing his waist so tightly that he momentarily stiffened.

Then, he quickly spread his hands, clapped them together, and began chanting a magic spell.

In an instant, a transparent golden barrier formed around both their bodies.

The fireballs that came flying toward them exploded like fireworks as they clashed against Rahar’s barrier in midair.

At the sound, Enria let out another scream and clung even tighter to Rahar’s waist.

His body wavered slightly.

For a moment, he was thrown off by how tightly she was holding onto him, but as more fireballs came hurtling their way, he quickly bit down on his thumb, drawing blood.

His blood scattered Into the air, and in an instant, sharp wind arrows materialized, piercing through the incoming fireballs and destroying them.

It was only then that Enria remembered—Rahar and Roseanne were powerful mages.

Of course, it was only natural. The Kaznaren Count’s family was famous for its lineage of mages.

A family of magicians that had refused to join the Magic Tower and had instead allied with the imperial family.

Because of that, they had long been enemies of the mages from the Magic Tower.

And in the latter half of the novel, Roseanne and Rahar waged war against the Tower with Caldeon’s help.

‘Now that I think about it, Roseanne totally carried that fight.’

She had contributed more than the male lead, Caldeon.

Recalling this, Enria realized that since Roseanne had ordered her brother to protect her, perhaps she didn’t need to fear the Magic Tower’s master after all.

Just then, as if by some cruel twist of fate, Growen Marsion appeared before them.

Draped in an extravagant robe that screamed “mage” to anyone who saw him.

“Well, well. I didn’t know the imperial lapdog also worked as the Grand Duke’s mutt,” Growen sneered, twisting one corner of his mouth as he looked at Rahar shielding Enria.

Enria stared blankly at him.

‘Wow, what a wickedly beautiful face with such an evil smile.’

Her mouth fell slightly open at the thought that struck her so forcefully.

He had the perfect villainous smirk, the kind that belonged in a movie.

If he went into acting as a villain professionally, he’d probably be a massive hit.

She must have been completely overwhelmed by everything happening because even in the midst of this chaos, she was thinking about something so absurd.

Enria glanced down at the empty air beneath her feet, trying to get used to the sheer surrealism of the situation.
