Chapter 50:
Chapter 50:
The whole place fell silent.
For some unknown reason, everyone suddenly felt that this rebellious young man, Jiang Feng, was radiating a unique light. It was as if he had a hard exterior, like a hedgehog covered in spikes, but beneath it all, they glimpsed his soft heart.
This kid was rebellious, yes, but there was something undeniably endearing about him. Despite his tough exterior, he had learned English just to follow his mother’s wishes and read those books.
The sensitive director had tears in their eyes.
“What a remarkable child!” they thought. “How kind-hearted he is, even if he scolds Jiang Nan and seems to hate him, he never truly harms him.”
Everyone on set quietly wiped away their tears.
“Xiao Feng, do you miss your mother a lot?” Li Rou asked softly, her heart suddenly moved. She was determined to take good care of him. After all, she couldn’t let the netizens criticize this kid when the show aired.
“Yes,” Jiang Feng replied in a low voice.
“You’ve been studying English for 10 years. Did it affect your studies?” Li Rou asked, trying to guide the conversation. She knew what kind of children the audience loved, and she wanted to make sure Jiang Feng would be well-received.
However—
“I don’t like studying,” Jiang Feng said honestly. “I like playing video games! I want to be an e-sports player, but there’s no school for that. I’ve spent all these years learning English just to read simple books, and this exam has seven subjects! How am I supposed to become an e-sports player if I spend all my time studying?”
Li Rou was left speechless.
It made sense, and she couldn’t argue with his logic. She was dumbfounded.
This kid had his own way of thinking.
“Xiao Feng,” Li Rou continued gently, “if your mother were still here, and she wanted you to take an important university exam, would you do it? If you passed, you’d make her proud. Would you take the test?”
“My mother wouldn’t!” Jiang Feng answered seriously. “My mom always said she’d support whatever career I chose. She doesn’t think a diploma is the only way to be proud of me. As long as I follow my own path, I am her pride!”
Jiang Feng’s tone was firm, like he was discussing something far more important than any exam. His conviction was unshakable.
“Xiao Feng,” Li Rou asked the question on everyone’s mind, “why do you seem to prefer your mother over your father?”
Jiang Feng’s feelings were already clear.
He adored his mother.
And whatever his mother said, he followed, even if it meant doing things he didn’t like.
“I don’t like my mother more.” Jiang Feng interrupted.
“What?”
“I only like my mother,” Jiang Feng said, pursing his lips. “I hate my father. He didn’t care about her at all! He never respected her feelings, made her stay at home, and kept her unhappy every day. I once secretly asked the doctor, and he said my mom’s illness was partly caused by her mood. If she’d been happier, she might’ve gotten better! They drove her to it!”
Jiang Feng clenched his fists, anger burning in his eyes as he glared at Jiang Nan. His hatred was undeniable.
Even Jiang Nan was startled. “Xiao Feng, don’t say things like that! How could this have anything to do with us?”
“It doesn’t matter? Then swear! Swear that if it does, you’ll never get into a top university!” Jiang Feng laughed bitterly. “You’re the ones responsible for this!”
“Xiao Feng!” Jiangnan stammered, but he couldn’t bring himself to swear.
The truth was, before it all happened, Jiang Feng’s father had indeed been close with Jiang Nan’s mother.
“See? You won’t swear because you know you’re guilty!” Jiang Feng gritted his teeth. “Stay away from me! I can’t stand the sight of you! After we finish recording this show, I’m moving out. I’ll live in my hometown!”
The argument between the two escalated again.
But this time, the atmosphere among the crew grew heavy.
After all, Jiang Nan was still just a child, but his evasive eyes betrayed a guilty conscience.
So maybe, just maybe, Jiang Feng’s accusations were true.
Li Rou’s emotions were complicated and uneasy.
If what Jiang Feng said was true, it would be devastating for him.
It would mean that his father had married the very person responsible for his mother’s death.
