Chapter 5:

Chapter 5:

Though Song Lin hadn’t officially left the family, she moved out the next day after Jiang Feng suggested it. With her savings, she rented a small two-bedroom apartment.

Jiang Feng spent most of his time between Song Lin’s new place and school. He was determined to make sure things didn’t unfold the same way as they had in his previous life. While He Minglang had become popular in part due to his good looks, another major reason was his excellent grades, which contrasted sharply with the original Jiang Feng’s poor academic performance.

In comparison, He Minglang had garnered sympathy—seriously ill, pitiful, yet brilliant in his studies. But now, with Jiang Feng in control, that wasn’t going to happen. The content of the college entrance exam was relatively easy for him, and after just a few days of studying, he had already mastered the material.

One Friday, after class, as Jiang Feng was walking home, he was suddenly stopped.

“Jiang Feng, why don’t you want to donate bone marrow to my brother?”

A girl in a red dress stood in front of him, her voice filled with anger. “You promised before, and now you’ve gone back on your word!”

It was He Mingxue, and standing beside her was Xu Qingya.

He Mingxue glared at him as though he were her worst enemy. “Are you so jealous that Uncle Jiang cares more about my brother than you? Is that why you’re refusing to help? This is a matter of life and death!”

She sneered coldly, “No wonder Xu Qingya broke up with you. A selfish person like you doesn’t deserve her!”

Xu Qingya stayed quiet, looking beautiful in her blue and white dress, her fair skin glowing in the sunlight. When she saw Jiang Feng, her heart skipped a beat.

She had been checking her phone constantly these past few days, but Jiang Feng hadn’t sent her a single message. Even in class, he avoided her. After school, he would vanish. Seeing him now, after several days, felt like a strange relief.

In the sunlight, his face was striking. He had cut his hair into a neat, stylish look, revealing his sharp, almond-shaped eyes. Even in the simple school uniform of blue and white, he looked effortlessly handsome. His entire aura had shifted—he wasn’t the same Jiang Feng she had known.

After their breakup, Xu Qingya had to admit, Jiang Feng seemed to have become even more attractive. But when she thought of He Minglang still lying in a hospital bed, she bit her lip. “Xiao Feng, it’s just a bone marrow donation… Why did you change your mind? I’m so disappointed in you—you weren’t like this before.”

He Mingxue scoffed. “It’s just bone marrow, but my brother’s life is at stake! How could Uncle Jiang have such a heartless son like you?”

Jiang Feng cut her off, clearly unimpressed. “He Mingxue, have you done the matching?”

“What?”

“I asked, have you done the bone marrow matching?” Jiang Feng repeated, a hint of curiosity in his voice. “Or do you not care enough about He Minglang?”

He Mingxue’s face turned bright red, and she hesitated, caught off guard. From her guilty expression, Jiang Feng instantly understood—she hadn’t even gone for the test herself.

She had the audacity to criticize him, yet hadn’t bothered to do what she was demanding of him.

Jiang Feng’s mocking smile made He Mingxue furious.

“Jiang Feng, what’s with that attitude? You’ve already been matched—why won’t you donate?” she fumed. “Do you think I wouldn’t do it? If my brother hadn’t stopped me, I’d already have gone for the test! It’s just a bone marrow extraction, no big deal! Do you think everyone’s as selfish as you?”

Her words echoed, but Jiang Feng remained calm. He had no intention of letting others dictate his choices, especially when their own actions didn’t match their words.
