Georgie's POV

After Class, Me and Sheldon go to our usual spot to eat lunch quietly.

The Library.

I sat across from Sheldon in the library, the usual spot where we ate our lunch together.

I had tried many times to get him to eat in the cafeteria, but he always rejected the idea—complaining about the noise and the chaotic environment.

"Are you sure you want to come to the bar tonight?" I asked, biting into my sandwich. "It's loud and full of drunk people."

Sheldon took a bite of his own sandwich and looked at me.

"It's fine. I'll bring my earplugs," he said matter-of-factly. "Besides, I'm only doing it once—for now."

I nodded.

Sheldon was overly sensitive to everything, including sound.

He could hear high-pitched frequencies that most people couldn't.

That's what made him such a special kid—not in a bad way, but in an incredible way.

He was just too spoiled, which made him oblivious to the world around him.

Before I could say anything else, Veronica and Tam walked in with their own lunch.

Veronica sat beside me with smile on her face and placing her lunch on the table.

"Hey, Sheldon," she greeted before turning to me. "I heard Janna 'greet' you this morning? With a 'smile'."

I sighed.

"Yeah. Why?"

I already knew where this was going.

"No reason," Veronica said casually as she started unpacking her lunch.

But I noticed the slight pout on her lips, despite her saying it wasn't a big deal.

Smirking, I leaned closer and kissed her cheek.

"You're my girlfriend. Why are you getting jealous?" I teased, gently pinching her cheek.

"Stop it!" Veronica swatted my hand away, clearly annoyed—but I could see the small smile forming on her lips.

Tam and Sheldon just stared at us.

And out of the corner of my eye, I caught Miss Sheryl watching, looking slightly gloomy—and maybe even a little jealous.

Veronica huffed and suddenly pinched my thigh, giving me a deadly glare. "Don't talk to her again, alright?"

I raised my hands in mock surrender.

"If she doesn't talk to me first, I won't talk to her," I assured her. "But I can't just ignore her completely." I met her gaze, my tone serious.

"It's just politeness, and I have no other intentions. You're my girlfriend, and I love you. You just need to trust me, alright?"

I brushed a hand through her hair gently.

Veronica let out a soft snort but didn't push my hand away.

"Alright. I believe you." she finally said before pressing a quick kiss to my lips.

Tam groaned in frustration.

"Ugh. I hate watching you two be all lovey-dovey."

Sheldon squinted at us in pure disgust.

"Could you not do that in front of me?" he deadpanned. "It makes me want to vomit."

Veronica, realizing she had gotten carried away, quickly pulled back, her face slightly flushed.

"Or," Sheldon continued, "I will ban you from eating lunch with me."

I chuckled hearing sheldon saying that, but I know he didn't mean it.

"Sure, sure."

As I returned to my sandwich, I heard a deep sigh from Miss Sheryl.

She muttered something under her breath, too quiet for any of us to hear.

"What is Miss Sheryl muttering about?" Curious, I turned to Sheldon. "Wait, Shelly. Let me guess…" I smirked.

I put on a dramatic, melancholic voice.

"'Oh, look at them… so young, so full of hope… so oblivious to the fact that one day, they'll grow to hate each other over stupid things—like the way they chew their food.'"

Veronica and Tam stared at me like I had just committed an unforgivable crime.

Then, they both turned to Miss Sheryl with pitying looks.

Sheldon, however, shook his head.

"Not accurate, but the context is similar," he corrected.

"She actually said something along the lines of—"

"'Ah, youth… so passionate, so full of promises… and look at me now—spending Friday nights with three cats and a glass of cheap wine.'"

Veronica and Tam gawked at Sheldon.

I, on the other hand, burst out laughing.

Miss Sheryl must have noticed, because she suddenly walked over to us.

"What are you guys talking about?" she asked.

I gestured for her to take a seat.

"We were talking about you," I said casually, dropping the bomb.

Tam choked on his drink.

Veronica smacked me hard on the arm.

"OUCH!"

I rubbed the sore spot as Veronica glared at me.

Miss Sheryl sighed.

"Well, I'm not surprised," she muttered. "It's not like you guys talking about me makes me any less of a person."

Her voice was so empty.

I felt my smirk fading.

Her tone—it had no positivity in it at all.

She had completely given up on life.

Before I even realized it, I blurted out—

"Why did you give up?"

Silence.

Everyone froze.

Even I was shocked at myself for saying it.

"I'm… sorry," I muttered, looking at Miss Sheryl with sincerity.

Miss Sheryl sighed again and tried to stand up.

But before she could leave, Sheldon spoke.

"Why didn't you answer Georgie's question?"

I held my breath.

I hadn't meant to push her that far.

But…

I hated seeing her like this.

For the first time, I noticed her fingers trembling slightly.

Her shoulders were shaking just a little.

Then, instead of walking away, she slowly sat back down.

Like gravity itself felt heavier on her today.

Veronica and Tam exchanged uneasy glances, but I ignored them.

I just waited for Miss Sheryl to calm down.

Then, I turned to Tam and Sheldon.

"Tam, Shelly—can you two be the librarians for a while?" I asked, my tone firm.

Tam let out a defeated sigh, "This is the heaviest lunch I've ever had." he muttered under his breath.

But he nodded.

Sheldon, on the other hand, looked excited.

"Oh boy!"

Before Tam could react, Sheldon run and dragged him toward the librarian's desk.

Now, it was just me and Miss Sheryl.

After a long silence, she finally lifted her head and looked at me.

"What do you want, Cooper?"

3rd POV

Miss Sheryl's eyes sharpened as she stared at Georgie, like a soldier guarding the last stronghold of her defenses.

"What do you want, Cooper?!" she said, her tone heavy with distrust.

Georgie didn't respond immediately.

He simply looked at her.

Some students glanced their way, intrigued by Miss Sheryl's sudden outburst, but after a moment, they lost interest and returned to their book.

Miss Sheryl exhaled, her shoulders relaxing slightly.

She was waiting for Georgie to say something.

"Nothing," he finally said.

"I don't want anything from you."

Miss Sheryl raised an eyebrow.

"I just want to know—why did you give up? What made you stop fighting?"

Veronica remained silent.

She didn't want to get in the middle of this.

She knew Miss Sheryl was gloomy and pessimistic, but she had never bothered to ask why.

Neither had the other students.

Not even the other teachers.

They already know Miss Sheryl is like that.

Only Georgie cared enough to ask.

It was… weird.

Miss Sheryl leaned back in her chair, closing her eyes briefly before speaking.

"Because I know hope is just a meaningless word people throw around to make themselves feel better," she murmured.

"I've lived it. I've seen it."

Georgie didn't respond.

Neither did Veronica.

Especially Veronica.

She had felt that same emptiness before.

Her response had been to act out—to become rebellious.

But Miss Sheryl had already gone through all those emotions.

She had already given up.

Veronica glanced at Georgie, then at Miss Sheryl.

"…I've felt that way before," she admitted softly.

Georgie shook his head.

"It's not just you."

He turned back to Miss Sheryl, his gaze firm.

"Everyone has felt that way at some point."

"But a lot of people don't give up."

Miss Sheryl let out a small, bitter laugh, but there was a flicker of something tired in her expression.

"What do you know?" she said.

"You're a future superstar—or at least, that's what people are saying. Unlike us, the adults, we're just trying to stay afloat—trying to breathe in a river that keeps pulling us under."

"But you can swim, right?" Georgie countered.

Then he sighed.

"Hufft… I don't know why I'm even talking to you about this."

His tone turned slightly teasing, slightly sarcastic.

"But thanks. You just made me even more determined not to give up on my dreams."

Veronica understood what Georgie was doing.

And so did Miss Sheryl.

It wasn't subtle.

"I can swim," Miss Sheryl admitted. "But some people don't want to be saved—even when they need saving."

"For me, just staying afloat is already a miracle, they don't need a pity from other people." she added.

She knew she was talking to a high school kid—a kid who hadn't been broken by life yet.

"Alright, then. If you ever need anything, you can call me, Miss." Georgie smiled at her. "I know you're a good person—that's why you're always nice to Sheldon and the rest of us."

Miss Sheryl stood up.

"It's my job, Cooper," she scoffed. "If I wasn't getting paid, you'd see me grumbling and being an evil bitch to all of you."

Georgie chuckled as she walked back to the front counter.

But his smile faded when he noticed Sheldon lecturing a student who was trying to borrow a book.

"Really?"

Sheldon's voice rang across the library.

"You want to borrow this book?"

Georgie saw Sheldon's face contort into a look of mocking disbelief.

"How did you even find this book? With what? Really? In Texas?"

Georgie facepalmed.

Then he called out—

"Sheldon, just come finish your lunch already!"

Veronica chuckled.

"Why do you even bother with Miss Sheryl?" she asked, looking at Georgie.

"I was trying to set an example for Sheldon…" Georgie sighed. "But I changed my mind."

"I just wanted to know why Miss Sheryl is like that."

He leaned back.

"I think it's deeper than anything she's saying. But… she doesn't want to be helped."

Veronica nodded.

She could understand that.

When someone's hope was shattered into pieces, they didn't always want to put it back together.

If Georgie hadn't reached out to her when he did…

Maybe she would've ended up like Miss Sheryl.

Or worse.

Dead.

"Sheldon, calm down." Tam muttered as they walked back to the table.

"I can't believe how many students break the rules every day," Sheldon huffed. "And I definitely can't believe how many of them have nonsensical ideas."

Georgie and Veronica exchanged an amused glance.

"What happened this time?" Georgie asked.

Sheldon sat down, picking up his sandwich again.

"They wanted to check out a book on gold mining," Tam explained with an awkward smile.

Sheldon glared at him.

"Really? And how exactly do they plan to find a gold mine in Texas without proper equipment?!"

Tam shrugged.

"With a shovel?"

Sheldon groaned, rubbing his temples.

"Oh boy…"

And with that, he gave up on the conversation entirely.

3rd POV

After school, Georgie walked toward the parking lot with smile on his face. He look at someone at parking lot right now, Miss Fenley was already waiting by her car, smiling.

But that smile vanished the second she saw another woman beside Georgie.

"I'll see you tonight?" Georgie asked, looking at Veronica.

Veronica glanced at Miss Fenley before turning back to Georgie.

"Yes," she said softly. "Be careful on the way there, alright?"

Then, without hesitation, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him into a deep kiss.

She didn't hold back.

Georgie felt her warmth, the possessiveness behind her touch.

Minutes passed before she finally pulled away.

She locked eyes with him.

"I love you."

Georgie smiled.

"I love you too."

He pressed a soft kiss to her forehead before walking toward Miss Fenley's car.

Miss Fenley stared at him, unimpressed.

He smirked at her, his eyes playful.

She rolled her eyes but didn't say anything as he got into the car.

They drove in silence for the first 20 minutes.

The only sound came from the radio playing softly in the background.

Georgie never stopped his smile for the past 20 minutes!.

Of course, Miss Fenley noticed.

She pull over and turned off the car engine before facing him still with dumb smiling face!.

"….."

"What?" Georgie raised an eyebrow. "Aren't we supposed to be heading to the studio?" he asked, feigning innocence.

Miss Fenley snorted.

Instead of answering—

She climbed onto his lap.

"You're not going anywhere," she murmured, grinding her hips against him.

Georgie's smirk widened.

He smacked her ass.

"Then let's go to your place first," he teased.

Miss Fenley ignored the suggestion.

"No," she whispered.

"I want you. Now."

Then she kissed him greedily.

Georgie responded with a knowing smile.
