Yes! He's the god of acting

Chapter 20: The Fusion

"He should be heading back to find Henry by now."

The rickshaw bounced along the gravel road, William sitting with a face dark as storm clouds.

He couldn't figure out which link in the chain had broken, allowing Beker to suspect him so quickly—even willing to pay out of his own pocket to send him away, all for the chance to interrogate Henry alone.

But the problem was, all his options were now blocked.

Even if he turned back to find Henry, setting aside whether he could reach home faster than the Enforcers, the moment he left the rickshaw, Beker would know. His guilt would be impossible to wash away.

Now it all depended on how Henry handled the situation...

Still, William had already made his decision. If his identity was exposed, he'd flee directly from District Two. After all, it would take time for Beker to chase him from District Three.

As for Henry—he was just an ordinary person who didn't even know William was a Fusion being. Hell, he didn't even know what a Fusion being was. Even if William got into trouble, Henry wouldn't be implicated.

"Brother, you said you had no money," the rickshaw puller called back, huffing and puffing. "Even Enforcer Beker's covering your fare—you're not as simple as you look."

"Hah, definitely not simple." William's mind conjured Beker's image, feeling a knot of bitter anger in his chest. "How much longer?"

"Almost there, maybe ten more minutes."

"No need to rush. Take a few more laps around this street."

"...Huh?"

"Just do it. He's paying by distance anyway." William gave a cold laugh. "If he's got money to burn, I'll help him spend it properly..."

"Well, if you say so..."

"Go where there are people, make sure they see you. That way he can't back out of payment."

"You got it!"

And so the man pulled William around the busiest streets in District Two for over ten laps. The puller was clearly thrilled—just the extra distance alone was worth two or three days of normal fares.

When William finally got out, the man was grinning ear to ear, practically ready to kowtow to this financial god.

Since he was the only one "forced to depart early," with Carl not arriving for hours, William had to head to Ice Spring Street alone to meet with the District Two Enforcers on patrol.

The moment he reached Ice Spring Street, William's brow furrowed.

Yellow police tape sealed off nearly the entire street. The air still carried the metallic tang of blood. The low, broken buildings on both sides stood empty and silent, with only splashes of crimson staining the white walls—a horrifying sight.

William ducked under the tape, his feet crunching on broken stone. It was as if some savage beast had appeared here, slaughtering the entire street.

"What happened here..." William's eyes filled with confusion.

From the distant ruins, several figures in black and red uniforms approached. Seeing William cross the police line, they walked straight over.

"You're the reserve from District Three? Why so early?"

William handed over his transfer orders, blaming it all on Beker—claiming he'd ordered an immediate departure.

The Enforcer nodded. "Early's good, we're short-handed anyway... I'm Sam, currently in charge of Ice Spring Street. You'll be working with me for the next couple days."

"Understood." William paused. "Sam, what exactly happened here?"

"You haven't heard?"

Sam looked surprised. "Night before last—the day of the Gray Realm convergence—a Calamity made it to District Two. Killed half the street's population."

William froze. "Night before last?"

"Right." Sam nodded. "Didn't your District Three Commander Max tell you? This convergence likely released two Calamities... one Level Five, one Level Three.

The one that appeared in your District Three was Level Five, but it seemed less destructive—minimal casualties... Our District Two got the Level Three, and while it's lower level, it's got a real taste for killing..."

Hearing this, William's mind went blank.

He'd always assumed the presence in his mind was the only Calamity that had escaped the Gray Realm... but now there was another?

"What about the Level Three? Did you catch it?"

"If we'd caught it, why would so many of us still be here?" Sam sighed. "After the killing spree, the Calamity just vanished... though an Enforcer witnessed the direction it fled—toward the back mountains."

The back mountains...

William remembered—the back mountains lay between Districts Two and Three.

"These two Calamities are strange though... Usually after a Calamity descends and causes major destruction, it's caught quickly. Partly because of their size, partly because they can't control their urge to keep killing... But this time both Calamities disappeared simultaneously, like they just evaporated!"

William's heart skipped a beat. He asked casually, "I heard there are humanoid things called... Fusion beings?"

"Fusion beings..." Sam shook his head. "You think fusing with a Calamity is easy? To successfully fuse with a Calamity and survive, you need three conditions... First, you have to ensure the Calamity doesn't kill you. That alone eliminates 99% of Calamities, since most have no self-control.

You could say we beat it near death first, but then comes the next problem—you have to ensure your constitution is compatible with it... There's no way to predict that.

A human and a Calamity aren't even the same species. For them to be compatible is like picking up a random rock and finding its natural patterns spell out your name exactly.

Even if you're incredibly lucky and meet the first two conditions, you still have to ensure that after fusing with the Calamity, you won't be driven insane by its will... From what I know, most Fusion beings are madmen who don't live more than a few years."

William pressed further. "So you're saying the probability of Fusion beings appearing is essentially zero?"

"Exactly." Sam nodded. "Though I heard the Fusion faction has been researching ways to improve fusion success rates... How far they've gotten, I don't know."

William had always thought he was a Fusion being, but after Sam's description, he wasn't so sure...

His connection with the "Audience" was built entirely around the theater—there didn't seem to be any fusion process like Sam described... though these "Audience" members did occasionally drive him mad.

At the same time, a thought flashed through William's mind.

If he wasn't actually a Fusion being...

Then was it possible he could master a path of his own... a divine pathway?
