Chapter 34: Atop The Throne
Danjin sat alone inside the living room of Phoebe's accommodation. Her eyes wandered around aimlessly across the empty and silent room, feeling like something's missing.
It had barely been a week since she had known the person named 'Katsuri'. Perhaps most of the time it doesn't count as Katsuri had spent most of their time together unconscious.
Their first meeting, she was unconscious.
Then, she awakened as a Resonator and also lost consciousness for a while.
It felt like she knew more about Katsuri's sleeping face than she knew about her living preferences.
What kind of food does she like? Does she prefer the summer or the winter? What kind of shows does she like watching?
"Hm... It's only been a couple hours since we parted, am I feeling lonely already?"
They haven't known each other for long at all. Compared to all her other relationship with the people of Huanglong, her interaction with Katsuri could be compared to a fraction of a second.
"This feeling is new." It had been a while since she had felt like this, that's for sure.
The need to protect the black haired girl had taken over her heart.
Of course, that's not enough to blind her sight on what she truly needed to do.
She would still bring justice on this world, purge it of all its evil.
No matter how bloodied her hand became, she will bring it all down, even if it's the last thing she do.
"...Maybe I shouldn't have sent her with Rover." She contemplated her own choice to leave Katsuri to Rover's hand.
The reason she had sent Katsuri over to them was to make sure Katsuri could familiarize herself with strangers.
While in reality, she doesn't really needed to do that, Katsuri could interact with strangers just fine.
But she lack the initiative to do so.
It felt like if Danjin left Katsuri alone at home for a week, she might starve to death because she doesn't want to interact with the grocery store's clerk.
Katsuri seemed like the kind of individual who would shut themselves in their own room if they're not brought out by another person.
Perhaps with this experience, Katsuri could become more talkative and began to take more initiatives.
That would surely be ideal.
Plus, where in the world would be much safer when compared to the hands of the Hero of Jinzhou?
Her first meeting with the Rover had shown her just how virtuous Rover truly is.
With only a glance, she could tell.
Rover was the most just person she had ever met.
The kind of individual who would do whatever it takes to protect the people.
"It's alright. I'm sure when they returned, she'd share all the stories about her splendid adventure." Danjin climbed the stairs, leading to the second floor.
She opened the door leading to her own room.
Although the bed were a bit messy and the window were open, she still looked inside with adoration.
"As expected, you can't even make your own bed after waking up." She muttered towards herself.
"Don't worry, that's part of your charm after all. But I would prefer it if you'd fix your bad habits. It makes me worried to think about what kind of disaster you'd end up while living on your own."
Suddenly, the sword on her waist began to shake.
Confused, she grabbed the handle. '...I forgot to give it to her.'
Indeed, it was Katsuri's sword.
It was too late already, Danjin's almost certain that Katsuri is quite far away now.
She can't really track her trace since Katsuri doesn't have her own terminal.
Hm, it's decided.
She's going to give Katsuri her own terminal when she has the time.
[Wuthering Waves]
"What the hell do you want from me?" Katsuri tried to keep her stance low, prepared for any and all scenario.
If she could run, she would've done so already- but all roads are blocked by Tacet Discords.
She can't make a run for it, nor could she face off against so many Tacet Discords.
'Is it just me or has my luck been bad lately? Why is it that all my encounters are against enemies out of my level range!? Shouldn't I face the weaker enemies first!?'
Scrit! Scrat!
The world glitched again, this time the interval becoming more and more pronounced. It was like two different timelines were overlapping, trying to create a present that is different from the current one.
In fact, that scenario might be ideal right now. She can't really see any other way in which she'd be able to escape this place alive.
It was another thing that the sunny day variant was free of Tacet Discords.
...Wait, can't she use this to her advantage? It might actually work now that she thought about it.
But... there is no opportune time to really take advantage of that loophole.
Since she's currently stuck in a staring contest against the creature that had destroyed her shelter previously.
"What a weird situation I've gotten myself into. I bet none of them would believe this if I told them about it." She began thinking about her old online friends.
She could just really imagine what kind of things would be thrown her way once she began her story telling.
They would probably just laugh everything off, saying she's been sleeping too much to dream of such scenario.
In fact, what if she's actually dreaming right now?
If so, she really wanted to wake up.
Please, wake her up already!
"..."
Of course, she doubted anything would work out at this point.
Katsuri could feel her spine tingled as she stared at creature with its skin covered in eyes and a black crown seemingly imbedded into its head.
Around it were floating tentacles, all looked to be having a mind of their own with their chaotic movement.
Even just by looking at it... she could feel something crawling at her skin.
Disgusting.
As she was watching this creature, it suddenly elevated closer towards the ground as some tentacles began to form a shape of a throne right under it.
The creature then placed itself onto the throne, as if announcing itself as King.
Then, in a sudden turn of event, the Tacet Discords around it bowed down all at once as if it was rehearsed.
Now, only she was standing face to face against this... can it even be categorized as a Tacet Discord at this point?
Katsuri rubbed her arms.
This... is becoming more and more nonsensical as the second passed.
It was then, all the eyes on the creature blinked simultaneously.
In an instant, it struck.
