Chapter 380: Chapter 380: Conflict and Lin Dong’s Power
Chapter 380: Conflict and Lin Dong's Power
The brown-robed middle-aged man sitting on the stone platform looked up in surprise when Lin Langtian asked about the black, broken bead. With a skeptical look, he muttered, "Hmm? Why would you be interested in that?"
"What if I told you it's a hidden, world-class treasure? Would you believe me?" Lin Langtian replied casually.
He knew that everyone here was quite shrewd. Even if they didn't understand the full value of what they found in the Demon Region, they were always cautious—treasures that first appeared worthless could sometimes turn out to be priceless gems.
But Lin Langtian took a different approach, openly stating his interest. He was confident that this would actually make the vendor less suspicious. After all, even he had only noticed the faint reaction of his Golden Spirit Wheel Mirror to this unremarkable, broken bead.
Sure enough, the middle-aged man was taken aback. Most buyers would try to hide their interest, but this young man announced it openly. Thinking this over, he studied the bead carefully but failed to detect any unique qualities. He'd inspected these items countless times and had found nothing noteworthy—especially not with this bead, which gave off no energy fluctuations. Convinced that Lin Langtian was bluffing, he relaxed.
"Well, do you want to sell it or not?" Lin Langtian asked, holding up the bead with a calm smile.
The man finally gave a quick laugh. "Of course, I'll sell. No reason not to."
"What's the price?" Lin Langtian asked.
The vendor hesitated, his eyes gleaming, then said, "Twenty million Nirvana Pills."
Behind Lin Langtian, Song Yun and the others frowned, irritated by the inflated price. Pang Lie took a step forward, shooting the vendor a cold look. "You really have the guts to pull this on our senior brother from Yuan Gate? Aren't you afraid of offending us?"
The man shrugged with a smirk. "Selling mystery items is risky. Imagine how I'd feel if this junk turned out to be a treasure after all? You're from Yuan Gate, sure, but I still need to protect my investment, don't I?"
"There aren't that many hidden treasures left in this world," Song Yun said, smiling as he countered, "One million two hundred thousand Nirvana Pills—that's fair."
Hearing this price, the vendor frowned. He didn't recognize Lin Langtian's group, but he knew they were high-ranking. After weighing his options, he sighed and said, "Fine. One million two hundred thousand, and not a pill less!"
Lin Langtian nodded and tossed over a spatial bag. The vendor checked it with a grin, then said, "Pleasure doing business. It's all yours."
Unbothered, Lin Langtian stored the black bead in his own spatial bag. Just as he was about to speak to Song Yun, a sharp popping sound burst across the area.
Glancing up, Lin Langtian saw a brilliant firework rise, exploding into the symbol of Yuan Gate.
Song Yun raised an eyebrow, then turned to Lin Langtian. "Senior Brother, that's our sect's distress signal. Some of our fellow disciples might be in trouble. Shall we go take a look?"
At first, Lin Langtian was disinterested. But then, something crossed his mind, and he gave a slight nod. "It's close by. Let's check it out."
Without another word, he sped toward the source of the signal, with Song Yun and the others close behind. They arrived swiftly at the scene, only to find the area packed with people, layered in rows three or four deep, with loud voices echoing through the space.
Lin Langtian's eyes fell on a nearby building. Motioning for his group to follow, he entered and rented a private room with a clear view of the area below.
In the middle of the crowd, a large space had opened up between two groups standing tensely apart. On one side was Yuan Gate's delegation, and on the other, disciples from Dao Sect.
"Dao Sect… of course it's them. No one else would provoke us like this," Song Yun murmured, quickly assessing the situation. "That's their Senior Sister Ying Xiaoxiao and their top disciple, Wang Yan. It's no wonder Jiang Tao, our Water Division Spirit Commander, sent a distress signal."
Lin Langtian remained expressionless, showing no sign of intervening. Although Dao Sect was their rival, Jiang Tao wasn't close to him, so he felt no need to get involved.
Seeing that Lin Langtian wasn't interested, Song Yun and Pang Lie exchanged glances and held back any further comment. They had followed Lin Langtian long enough to know they should follow his lead.
"Senior Brother, look, it's Lin Dong! He's here for the tournament too!" Mo Tie exclaimed, pointing excitedly toward the figure entering the scene.
At this, Lin Langtian's gaze sharpened. He spotted a young man of solid build and deep, piercing eyes—not traditionally handsome, but exuding a sense of resilience. It was unmistakably Lin Dong.
"Destined as he is, it seems that Dao Sect is indeed a good place for Lin Dong to grow," Lin Langtian muttered, narrowing his eyes as he sensed the powerful energy within Lin Dong. While his own strength was still above Lin Dong's, he could tell that the gap between them was no longer as vast as it had been back in the Great Yan Dynasty. Lin Dong was catching up, and though this left Lin Langtian feeling slightly uneasy, he was not entirely surprised.
With a slight shake of his head, Lin Langtian shifted his gaze to those around Lin Dong. Besides Wang Yan, who had previously lost to him, and Ying Xiaoxiao, whom he'd met briefly, there was also a young girl in the group. Though she looked about the same age as Su Rou had been back then, her height was more striking, and she stood elegantly in a red dress.
The girl was undoubtedly beautiful, yet it was something else that drew Lin Langtian's attention—the faint, unusual energy coming from her. He even seemed to hear a soft, musical chime within that energy.
"Oh, so that's Ying Huanhuan, the reincarnated Ice Master," Lin Langtian thought, noticing the affectionate way the red-dressed girl looked at Lin Dong. She was said to be the disciple with the most potential to inherit the Symbol Ancestor's legacy among the Eight Masters of the Ancients, with strength and talent considered among the highest on the continent. Of course, her most notable future title would be as the wife of Martial Ancestor Lin Dong and the renowned Mistress of the Martial Domain in the Great Thousand World.
As Lin Langtian reflected on these things, the tension in the scene continued to build. The air filled with the sounds of people soaring through the skies as, one by one, figures began to descend from above, forming into two opposing groups. Within minutes, each side had gathered over a hundred people, and the gathering intensity left the crowd buzzing with awe—after all, these were two of the Super Sects.
The Treasure Seeking Zone, usually a mix of adventurers and cultivators, was filled with people's watchful and entertained gazes, including Lin Langtian and his group, who observed from the building above.
Lin Langtian suddenly looked up toward a distant point in the sky as he sensed something approaching. A figure wreathed in dazzling lightning appeared, descending from the sky with an imposing, thunderous aura that drew all eyes to the Yuan Gate disciples he joined.
"Haha! So, Dao Sect's losers dare provoke Yuan Gate? Come on, let's see who falls first!"
The lightning-clad figure's voice boomed across the field, brimming with arrogance and challenge. At that moment, all the Dao Sect disciples' faces darkened.
"Oh, the Little Thunder King has arrived," murmured Song Yun, watching with a tinge of glee. "It looks like Dao Sect's side is in trouble."
Lin Langtian shook his head, unconvinced. "Not necessarily. Lei Qian's strength doesn't quite match his ego. Don't be surprised if he stumbles badly."
At this, Song Yun and the others looked puzzled. Despite their lack of admiration for the Little Thunder King, they couldn't deny his power. They doubted anyone in Dao Sect could truly go up against him.
"Senior Brother, could you mean… Lin Dong?" Mo Tie asked, catching on. During the Hundred Empire War, though most of the Flame Alliance's fame was built by Lin Langtian, Lin Dong's achievements shone brightly as well. Now that Lin Langtian had risen rapidly within Yuan Gate, it was unlikely that Lin Dong had done nothing with his time in Dao Sect.
"Lin Dong…" Song Yun and the others exchanged glances, looking skeptical. Not having been there during the ancient battlefield trials, they couldn't understand how monstrous both Lin Langtian and Lin Dong's talents had been.
Lin Langtian simply offered a knowing smile. "Lei Qian won't have it easy this time. Just watch."
As he spoke, the confrontation in the field reached a fever pitch. Lin Dong took a step forward, unleashing his energy, and transformed into a streak of light, shooting straight at Lei Qian.
"What's he doing?" sneered Jiang Tao, one of the Yuan Gate disciples, as Lin Dong charged forward. Song Yun and the others also doubted that Dao Sect had anyone besides Ying Xiaoxiao or Wang Yan who could spar with the Little Thunder King.
Seeing Lin Dong's approach, Lei Qian's lips twisted in a smirk as fierce lightning exploded around him, creating a roaring lion head of pure electric energy on his raised fist. "Thunder Lion Fist!"
Lei Qian's punch resounded with a thunderous roar as waves of violent energy surged outward, shattering the ground around him like spiderwebs.
Both fighters moved at blinding speeds, closing the distance in a flash, looking as if Lei Qian's powerful punch was about to overwhelm Lin Dong completely.
Yet at that precise moment, Lin Dong's lips curled into an odd smile, his hands forming a mysterious seal. A wave of energy burst forth, and Lei Qian's thunderous punch suddenly froze mid-air.
Though the freeze lasted only an instant, in a battle between powerful cultivators, that instant was all Lin Dong needed to decide the outcome.
In that split second, Lin Dong sidestepped like a ghost, passing right by Lei Qian.
A deep thud echoed across the arena as the two figures crossed paths. The crowd's eyes widened, astonishment overtaking them as a sense of awe spread.
Lei Qian's face turned red before his chest seemed to explode with invisible force, sending him hurtling backward. He crashed into a massive stone, shattering it into dust upon impact.
The crowd fell silent.
