Chapter 358: Chapter 358: The Demon King?

Chapter 358: The Demon King?

"This… is the Chaotic Demon Flame?" Lin Langtian murmured, staring in awe at the enormous black dragon slumbering not far away. Though the dragon's eyes were closed, its powerful aura was palpable, a pressure so intense it left him momentarily breathless.

The sheer size of the dragon was overwhelming, and its presence radiated a strange, dark energy that filled the space. "So, the Chaotic Demon Flame actually takes on a dragon form," he whispered, still stunned by the revelation.

"Not surprising," came the voice of Spirit Aunt in his mind. "When certain elemental beings reach a high enough level, they develop their own consciousness and even form a physical shape. The dragon, being at the top of the food chain, is a common choice for these entities. Judging by this one, it might've even come in contact with real dragons before," she added.

"Real dragons?" Lin Langtian's eyes narrowed at the thought. As one of the four ruling tribes of beasts, dragons were powerful beings unmatched across the continent. If this flame had indeed encountered dragons, it must be an incredibly formidable force.

"So, what should I do now?" Lin Langtian asked, his face tense as he eyed the slumbering dragon in front of him.

"From what I sense, this entire Inferno Demon Space was crafted by a powerful figure from Yuan Gate to contain and restrain the Chaotic Demon Flame," Spirit Aunt explained. "You've already made it this far, which is half the battle. Now, while the Chaotic Demon Flame is still sealed and dormant, you can use the demonic seed within you to suppress its dark energy and, with any luck, tame it."

"Be cautious," she added sternly. "Do it gently. Waking it up would be catastrophic."

Lin Langtian nodded, understanding the gravity of her warning. The power of the Chaotic Demon Flame was far greater than that of the Vermilion Phoenix Flame; any slip-up could have dire consequences.

After a moment's hesitation, he took a deep breath and began to approach the massive dragon. With each step closer, he felt the pressure intensify, as if the dragon's aura itself was pushing against him, making it hard to breathe. The thought crossed his mind that maybe this flame spirit truly believed itself to be a dragon.

Bracing himself, Lin Langtian advanced further, cautious of every step. Soon, he was directly before the enormous dragon head, suspended in the air at its brow. In comparison, he was as insignificant as an insect before this towering form, barely the size of a single dragon scale.

The closer he was, the more he could feel the sheer awe-inspiring presence of the Chaotic Demon Flame. Just the area of one dragon scale alone dwarfed his entire body.

"Place your hand on the center of the Chaotic Demon Flame's brow," Spirit Aunt's voice instructed him. "That's where the seal is strongest. If your spiritual energy can infiltrate there, you might just have a chance at taming it."

Following her guidance, Lin Langtian looked at the dragon's brow, where a single scale the size of a person bore intricate, web-like patterns. Fine, dark lines wove across its surface, forming runes that looked like massive, interconnected webs encasing the entire dragon.

"This is… a seal?"

Realizing the purpose of the markings, Lin Langtian noticed how these dark runes sprawled outward from the central brow scale, covering the dragon in an intricate lattice of restrictive symbols. It was the seal placed by the three chief masters of Yuan Gate.

"What an incredible seal," he marveled, feeling the immense power it held. Knowing he couldn't waste time, he stepped forward and placed his hand on the central scale. To his surprise, instead of burning, the scale felt cold and carried an ominous chill.

As the dark energy crept into him, his demonic seed kicked in, absorbing the evil power entirely. Free from the sinister aura, Lin Langtian closed his eyes and cautiously extended a tendril of spiritual energy from his brow, guiding it toward the scale.

Thump!

The moment his spiritual energy entered the dragon scale, there was a low, deep sound, as if he had pierced through a barrier. In the blink of an eye, his consciousness was transported into a dark, otherworldly space.

Purple-black flames filled this space, and at its center lay a miniature version of the black dragon, coiled and unmoving with its eyes shut in apparent slumber.

Seeing the tiny dragon, Lin Langtian recognized it as the essence of the Chaotic Demon Flame. If he could claim this core flame, he could gain control over the dragon's power—and with it, the ability to create new flames to fortify his forces.

Suppressing his excitement, he took a steadying breath and let a sliver of his spiritual energy drift carefully toward the small black dragon.

But just as he neared the dragon, its eyes snapped open, revealing cold, purple-black flames in its gaze that fixated on his spiritual form with chilling intensity.

The shock of being noticed froze Lin Langtian's mind. The Chaotic Demon Flame wasn't asleep at all.

"Who are you? How did you get in here?" The dragon's voice echoed through the space, dark and cold. Its eyes, filled with icy malice, scrutinized Lin Langtian closely.

Then the dragon's expression shifted, surprise flickering across its features. "Strange… there's something familiar about your aura."

Upon hearing the words, Lin Langtian froze, quickly realizing that the "familiar feeling" the Chaotic Demon Flame sensed was likely due to the demonic seed in his core. This demonic seed, the source of Lin Langtian's outer-realm power, had formed by absorbing demonic energy—an energy also present in the Chaotic Demon Flame, thus creating a shared aura between them.

Seeing that the Chaotic Demon Flame had discovered one of his biggest secrets, Lin Langtian's expression shifted repeatedly. Even that master of Yuan Gate, Ren Yuanzi, hadn't been able to detect his demonic seed. Yet, here was the Chaotic Demon Flame, discerning it in an instant.

Realizing he'd been exposed, Lin Langtian took a deep breath and concentrated, commanding the demonic seed within him to spin rapidly. Since the secret was out, he figured he might as well give the Chaotic Demon Flame a shocking display.

Hum, hum!

Under his control, a dark and sinister energy spread out from Lin Langtian's core. Black mist poured from his body, swiftly enveloping the surrounding area like a raging black storm. The air grew thick with an intense, frigid evil that closely mirrored the ominous energy emanating from the Chaotic Demon Flame.

"What… kid, are you a demon?" The Chaotic Demon Flame's massive dragon eyes widened at the sight of the dark force, and its startled voice filled the space.

As a powerful ancient flame that had merged with demonic energy, the Chaotic Demon Flame knew of demons. In ancient times, countless demonic warriors had fallen to its power. In the flame's memory, only the foul demonic creatures of the outer realms wielded such energy.

After Lin Langtian unleashed the power of his demonic seed, the Chaotic Demon Flame naturally assumed him to be a demon, as it knew such beings could take on human forms as well.

"I'm not a demon," Lin Langtian replied unexpectedly, immediately rejecting the flame's assumption.

"Hah! Lying demon!" The Chaotic Demon Flame's dragon eyes bore into Lin Langtian with a fury that seemed to burn hotter by the second. "You carry this evil power—if you're not a demon, then what are you?"

Demons were hated by all, not just by humans but by all life on the Tianxuan Continent, including the sentient Chaotic Demon Flame. For it, the hatred of demons was rooted deeply.

"Curse you, vile demon! You dare invade my domain? Die!" Believing Lin Langtian to be a demon without question, the Chaotic Demon Flame roared with rage. The space quaked, and a massive black dragon emerged from the sea of flames, filling the sky above.

The dragon stretched over a hundred meters long, exuding a pressure that could only be described as pure, dark majesty. Its form seemed to twist and writhe with sinister energy, shrouded in coils of ominous black mist that made it seem like a creature of nightmares.

Roar!

With a deafening roar, the giant black dragon lunged toward Lin Langtian with lightning speed. Its decision to treat him as a demon caught Lin Langtian entirely off-guard. He'd planned to explain the origin of his demonic seed and perhaps even use it to tame the Chaotic Demon Flame. But the flame gave him no chance, diving straight into battle.

"This foolish dragon!" he muttered under his breath. As the massive dragon charged, he knew he couldn't afford to be careless. His hands moved swiftly, forming seals as dark mist surged from his body. An icy, chilling voice escaped his lips.

"Devouring Abyss!"

At his command, Lin Langtian extended his hand, his finger tracing a line through the air. In response, a rift appeared, forming a massive black chasm several hundred meters wide in the empty space before him.

The abyss, which looked like the gaping maw of an ancient beast, pulsed with dark energy and surged toward the charging black dragon with immense force.

Boom!

The black dragon collided with the Devouring Abyss, generating a thunderous explosion. The impact's shockwave was so powerful it cleared away the surrounding dark mist like a storm blowing through clouds. At the point of impact, dark energy clashed and writhed, each force trying to consume the other in a fierce battle.

The collision's intensity grew with each second, until the very space around them seemed to shudder and crack, as though unable to withstand the energy.

Dazzling black light shone from the epicenter, forcing Lin Langtian to squint against the glare, though he quickly forced his eyes open to watch intently. He knew the strength of his demonic seed, having previously used it to overpower Mokushu, a Life and Death Realm master. Yet even against a Chaotic Demon Flame in a sealed state, he was struggling this much.

Imagining the strength of an unsealed Chaotic Demon Flame, he felt a flicker of fear—he probably wouldn't withstand even a single blow.

Roar!

Just then, the dragon's roar filled the space again, but this time there was a hint of anguish and fear in its tone. Lin Langtian watched, shocked, as a golden glow began emanating from the Devouring Abyss, covering the dark rift with a regal sheen.

To his surprise, the once-dominant black dragon recoiled in fright. The balance between their forces shifted, and the dragon, seemingly overwhelmed by the light, started to lose ground.

The Devouring Abyss seized the opportunity and flared with brilliant black-gold light, hurling itself heavily into the dragon.

Roar!

A pitiful howl rang out as the abyss swallowed the dragon whole. The massive creature's body disintegrated, shattering into dark flames that faded into nothingness.

"What immense and pure demonic power! Wretched brat, who are you exactly? A demon general? Or perhaps… a demon king?"
