Chapter 244: The Demonic Spirit Elder
"I've found it!" Lin Langtian's eyes lit up with excitement as he sensed a strange energy from the distant area. That shadowy, tombstone-like shape was likely where the Demonic Spirit Elder's inheritance was hidden.
With a determined look, he gathered himself and shot forward through the dark magic sea, where even the vicious serpents parted to clear his path under the influence of the golden-black glow emanating from him. In this vast ocean of dark energy, the serpents made way as Lin Langtian moved with ease.
It took him more than half a day, but finally, he reached the place his spirit had detected earlier.
As he slowed down, his surroundings shifted from the turbulent waves of black energy to a strange pocket of stillness, a void where not even the serpents dared to tread. This empty zone exuded a foreboding energy that felt like a doorway to death itself.
"So, this is where the Demonic Spirit Elder's inheritance lies…" Lin Langtian murmured to himself. His body instinctively tensed in response to the danger that seemed to surround him, his muscles tightening in anticipation.
Steeling himself, he took a step forward into the dark, silent void, moving carefully. After a few minutes of slow, cautious movement, he stopped. Up ahead, he glimpsed a faint, eerie light glowing in the shadows—a dull grayish gleam that flickered strangely.
Even though there seemed to be nothing physical in that glow, Lin Langtian could feel an ominous, almost suffocating power emanating from it. Something was there, waiting.
Suddenly, his eyes widened as he discerned a massive black serpent coiled in the darkness, its body stretching nearly a thousand feet. Its soulless, deathly eyes stared directly at him, unblinking and cold.
It flicked its tongue, producing a soft, chilling hiss like the sound of death's call.
"A colossal serpent?" Lin Langtian whispered, taken aback by the creature's immense size. This serpent dwarfed the others he had encountered so far, instilling an intense sense of foreboding.
As he examined the serpent more closely, he noticed something odd on its back: a dilapidated stone tablet, glowing faintly in the gray light. This was the same stone tablet he had glimpsed through his spirit.
"Could that be the Demonic Spirit Elder's inheritance?" Lin Langtian murmured, his heart quickening as he gazed at the tombstone-like tablet. He felt certain that the Demonic Spirit Elder's inheritance lay within it.
"But to reach that tablet, I'll have to get past this giant serpent first," he muttered, his expression serious. The serpent lay coiled and motionless, but its emotionless gaze made his skin crawl. Unlike ordinary snakes, this giant serpent radiated a disturbing aura that felt both unnatural and sinister.
Lin Langtian's eyes narrowed as he weighed his options. It would be impossible to defeat a serpent of this size on his own, so he decided to rely on the golden-black light from the Golden Spirit Mirror. As he thought this, the mirror seemed to resonate with his intentions, its glow intensifying.
In that moment, the giant serpent's cold eyes flickered, showing a rare hint of fear as it sensed the golden-black light. This reaction was exactly what he'd hoped for.
"Thank goodness…" Lin Langtian breathed in relief. It seemed that even this powerful creature was no match for the Golden Spirit Mirror, a treasure of the sacred lineage, which commanded a kind of instinctual respect from beings of lesser demonic origin.
Once he felt certain the serpent wasn't faking its submission, Lin Langtian moved forward cautiously, landing on the massive serpent's back and reaching out to touch the ancient stone tablet.
As his hand made contact, a strange sensation washed over him. Dark energy surged from the tablet, surrounding him in a faint black glow, and before he knew it, his form was enveloped and transported elsewhere.
When he opened his eyes again, the dark energy around him slowly receded, revealing an ancient, majestic hall before him. For a moment, Lin Langtian was awestruck, amazed that such a grand structure lay hidden within such a modest stone tablet. It was, without a doubt, the work of a powerful being from an ancient era.
"Who are you?" he demanded as he sensed a presence ahead.
In the dim light, he could make out a figure cloaked in shadow. An elderly man in dark robes appeared from thin air, his body slightly hunched. He stood quietly, exuding an unshakable aura. Though the air around him was still, it felt as though his mere presence could overwhelm this ancient hall.
"It has been tens of thousands of years…" The figure finally spoke, his voice ancient and deep. "At last, someone has crossed the magic sea and entered my domain."
The elder looked up, his face lined and worn with age. Yet his eyes, dark and fathomless as the sea itself, glowed with a strange intensity that was impossible to ignore, leaving Lin Langtian momentarily entranced.
"The Demonic Spirit Elder…" Lin Langtian's thoughts echoed, recognizing the man before him.
