Chapter 562: Imperial Aura Over Mexico City
Victor still hadn't settled the matter with Casare.
And then came another good news.
Secretarial aide Martin Bowman rushed in hastily, even... forgetting to knock on the door!
Victor looked displeased, just about to scold him, when the other party spoke directly and decisively.
"Sir, the Governor of Texas has declared independence!"
"Bang!"
Casare wasn't seated firmly and fell straight off the chair.
And Victor?
His pupils shrank slightly, then slowly widened, and the smile on his face spread quickly.
...
In the White House, the meeting room.
Smoke lingered, causing some nausea.
A group of bigwigs were in a meeting, discussing the recent direction of the United States.
"Gentlemen, is your method of thinking and solving problems just smoking one cigarette after another?"
Speaker of the House, Francesca Daniels, expressed her dissatisfaction.
"The Democratic and Republican parties need to unite..." someone started to say.
"Nonsense! Of course we know that! What I need to know now is how to address the consequences of civil war, capital flight, and the President Mountain disaster." The female speaker stood up, picked up a document from the table, and said through gritted teeth, "We have nearly 2000 small to medium-sized businesses collapsed in four months!"
"Our economy is declining, the dominance of the US dollar is disintegrating. At this rate, the system we built post-World War II will crumble instantly..." Speaker of the House Francesca Daniels was still expressing her opinion when she heard a rapid knocking on the door.
Clearly displeased with the interruption, she frowned, "Come in!"
Then the door opened, revealing a very young female secretary with a somewhat pale face and trembling lips.
"What is it!" Francesca asked loudly.
"Texas Governor Paul Constantine Stuart has publicly declared independence!"
Upon hearing this, everyone in the office was instantly in an uproar.
What is Texas?
A land abundant with talents, a place full of hidden dragons and crouching tigers.
A place where you could find three to five guns per capita in their basements?
During the US-Mexico conflict, their combat prowess was the fiercest. If you drag me into your war, I'll beat up you both together!
Even after the civil war, when the U.S. Government demanded the Texas National Guard to enter a state of readiness, how did they respond: "Please give us an official document. We are the Lone Star State, an independent entity!"
And then they confronted the military-affiliated armed groups.
The top was displeased and sent people to negotiate because this is American soil, under heaven, no land is beyond the King's reach!
What did the Texas Attorney General say:
"You have never owned the land of Texas, you don't even have your own map and geography for it, on what grounds do you say Texas is yours?"
If another state said this, it would definitely be problematic, but for Texas...
It's perfectly reasonable!
After all, historically it was independent and recognized by the international community!
After joining the United States, it preserved a right to secede at any time, maintaining equal status in territorial ownership, Texas's land belongs to Texas!
What do Texans say?
We allow the United States to join Texas!
"Quick, bring in the television." Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Craft Waters, shouted in dissatisfaction with the interns' dull reactions.
CIA Director Melia Cruz rushed out, along with several senior staff, to push in a television.
On the "KesDallas News Channel," the Texas Governor Paul Constantine Stuart, dressed in a black suit and wearing glasses, appeared quite genteel. Below the suspended platform, a large audience could be seen.
"Dear compatriots:"
"Today, I stand here, with the deepest respect and responsibility for this land, to announce a historic decision: the Texas Republic will once again become a free and independent sovereign nation."
"This decision is not taken lightly, but is based on our solemn commitment to the future of our descendants."
"For decades, the federal government has consistently infringed on the rights of states granted by the Constitution, imposing the chains of bureaucracy on our way of life."
"They ignore our border crisis, destroy our energy industry, and erode our land rights, education rights, and freedom of faith with federal mandates. Texans have never begged for privileges, but we will never accept being treated as second-class citizens!"
"Why do we choose independence?"
"In 1776, our forefathers established America with the belief of 'liberty or death'; in 1836, our ancestors shouted 'Remember the Alamo' at San Jacinto to win independence. Today's Texans inherit the same courage!!"
The governor placed one hand on the table, pointing to the sky with the other.
"When Washington politicians are engrossed in partisan struggles, when federal courts place radical ideologies above common sense, when our taxes are squandered on agendas damaging to this state— we have the right to choose another path."
"Fellow citizens, the transition period will inevitably come with challenges. But remember: our schools will remain open, sheriffs will continue patrolling, church bells will never be silenced, the provisional government will freeze all federal taxes, and systems like healthcare and pensions will complete a smooth transition within 90 days."
"Some may ask, 'Does independence mean isolation?' My answer is: Texas will never close its doors to freedom. We will open trade, investment, and friendship to all partners who respect our laws—be it former federal brothers or new allies across the ocean."
