Work Prophet

Chapter 23: Chapter 6: The Name of God

"Heh, who's eager to work with you?" Miss Rabbit muttered under her breath.

But even though she said that, her body visibly relaxed upon hearing Li Yu's praise, and she stopped shifting in her seat.

Taking advantage of the moment, Li Yu added, "I want to establish a more long-term and stable relationship with you."

The girl shook her pair of long ears on her head, clearly quite pleased, but having just been angry, she couldn't immediately agree, so she gave a light cough and said,

"Hmm, I will consider your proposal... to formally accept you as my consultant, of course, you'll have to perform well."

Before Li Yu could reply, she suddenly slapped her thigh hard, and when she lifted her hand, her palm was red.

"You just said you have a potion that can repel mosquitoes, quick! Give me some now! I feel like these annoying creatures are about to drain all my blood these days!"

At her words, Li Yu aimed the Six God Flower Dew at Ireya and sprayed it a few times, covering most of her exposed skin.

Miss Rabbit was initially skeptical, but the buzzing noise around her ears really diminished a lot afterwards, and those pesky little winged things no longer approached her.

"Wow, this is too effective!"

The girl marveled in amazement, then flared her nostrils a couple of times, her face expressing sheer delight.

"It smells so good, is this perfume produced in your hometown? And it can repel mosquitoes, it must be very expensive."

"14 dollars and 30 cents per bottle, and it gets even cheaper if you buy more," said Li Yu.

"What's a 'dollar'? And where did you run off to just now? Why do you always appear and disappear suddenly? How do you do that?"

"I was just about to tell you," Li Yu said with a serious expression, "I'm actually not from this world."

"I know you're not from this continent, you told me the night we first met,"

Miss Rabbit was still eagerly inhaling the Floral Dew because it was truly fragrant, smelling better than any perfume she had used before, even surpassing the high-end products from the south, so she wasn't paying much attention to Li Yu's words.

It wasn't until he further explained, "The world I'm talking about is not limited to the Bratis Continent, it includes the various nations and city-states beyond the straits as well."

"Then where are you from?" Ireya felt her geographical knowledge was insufficient.

In fact, since she was born, she had spent most of her time in Green Field, only traveling a significant distance when her father sent her to Duolin City's Temple to serve the Silver Moon Goddess, and even then, her activities were still confined within the western territories.

The girl had never been to the Royal Capital and only had vague notions of the outside world based on hearsay.

As for places even farther away, she couldn't even imagine them.

"I've noticed that in your poems there is mention of gods living in their golden Divine Country on Holy Mountain."

"Uh... you're not trying to say you come from there, are you?" Ireya looked incredulous, "Can you name more than five gods of the Bratis Continent?"

"I'm not familiar with them," Li Yu said, "but I do indeed come from a similar place."

"There's a limit to how much you can boast, you're saying your hometown is in a Divine Country?!" Miss Rabbit burst out laughing, but seeing that Li Yu's expression didn't change, her laughter slowly faded.

Especially when considering the incredible feats Li Yu had shown before, his ability to record voices, along with his sudden appearances and disappearances, Ireya finally began to seriously consider a certain possibility.

"Are you a god?"

"I'm not a god, I'm just a Prophet."

"What is a Prophet?"

"They're the spokesperson for a God in the mortal world. My God is different from the ones you worship—they won't easily leave Their Divine Country."

"How do They respond to their believers?"

"Through Their spokesperson on earth."

"Ha," Miss Rabbit grew more skeptical as she listened, "so you're saying everything here is up to you. What's the name of your God?"

"Saturday," answered Li Yu. "In my hometown, everyone adores it, longing for its arrival and mourning its departure."

"Saturday? Never heard of it."

"That's normal, we're all new here."

"The Red Lion Empire has always been tolerant and enlightened. Although not very welcoming, it doesn't exclude Foreign Gods. But I must say, you arrived too late. Most people here believe in the gods of the Holy Mountain, and we are very devout."

"Do those gods respond to your devotion?"

"Uh... occasionally. After all, they are usually quite busy. They've got their own things to do—ensuring day follows night, plants can sprout, seeds can grow from the earth, ships can sail through storms, and sometimes they even fight each other out of jealousy."

Ireya thought about the terrible experience of praying to the Silver Moon Goddess without any response and felt her own conviction wavering as she spoke.

"I came to this world for a reason," Li Yu continued.

"Really? And what might that be?" A woman's intuition told Ireya that what was about to follow could be significant, and although she'd won the election, she still had a pile of troublesome matters unresolved and wasn't keen on stirring into another muddy situation.

So she preempted him, "I am just a small country Lord, and the Arias family is no great Empire house, so I'm afraid I can't be of much help to you and whatever entity you represent."

"Some things are stronger when they're built from ruins," Li Yu countered. "But you don't have to worry too much. If you don't want to cooperate with me, that's okay. I won't force you, and for the time being, I won't leave you either."

"Why not?"

Li Yu pointed at the necklace around Miss Rabbit's neck, "Because it's what guided me here."

The Ancient Spirit of the Arias family?" Ireya was stunned. Although Li Yu had mentioned seeing something similar before, Miss Rabbit had always remained dubious.

"Your God is related to the Ancient Spirit of the Arias family? How is that possible? You are thoroughly human, without a trace of Arias blood in you."

"Perhaps our understanding of this object might be somewhat skewed..."

Li Yu's words were cut off midway by Miss Rabbit, "Unless you can prove it to me!"

"What kind of proof would you like?"

"You claim that your arrival is because of this necklace my father left me. Then surely, you must know how to awaken the Ancient Spirit residing inside it!"

In that moment, Ireya looked as though she had thrown out Goldbach's Conjecture like Goldbach himself!

After all, the Ancient Spirit itself was just a legend passed down among Noble Families. Since the necklace had come into the possession of the Arias family, only her father, Blood Eye Ruse, had claimed to have seen the Ancient Spirit within it, and even Ruse himself had not been able to awaken it again.

Miss Rabbit wanted to use this approach to discreetly persuade the self-proclaimed prophet of a Foreign God to give up the idea of missionary work on the Bratis Continent.

But to her surprise, Li Yu simply nodded and said casually, "Sure, I'll just bring the battery next time."

???!
