Wizard Starts Farming With Mini Skeletons

Chapter 128

After running for quite a distance, Clayton finally turned around to see what had actually happened. But when he looked out over the sea, the water appeared calm—there was no sign of anything unusual. That confirmed it: the problem hadn't come from the ocean.

He scanned the surroundings and eventually spotted smoke rising in the west, far from where he stood. Clayton wondered if the commotion had finally broken out among the crowd near the gate. He hesitated—should he approach, or avoid the place entirely?

Unable to decide, he stalled by pretending to forage nearby. Yet, he found nothing of value. Even after swimming close to shore in hopes of catching fish, he came up empty-handed. The creatures he encountered were either zero-star monsters or not magical beasts at all. Some had barely any meat, lacked magical energy, or were simply poisonous and full of bones.

After delaying until almost noon, Clayton couldn't take it anymore and decided to leave. He mounted his flying broom and soared over the sea.

Once in the air, his mood began to lift for the first time in a while. But just as he was starting to enjoy himself, the water beneath him suddenly darkened.

Swoosh!

Out of nowhere, a massive jaw—resembling that of a crocodile—lunged toward him!

Sensing danger, Clayton poured more energy into his broom, shooting higher into the sky.

He managed to dodge just in time and finally saw the monstrous creature clearly—an odd, fish-like beast with crocodile jaws and glimmering rainbow-colored scales that shimmered under the sunlight.

Since he was airborne with no foothold, Clayton figured the creature couldn't reach him anymore. He just had to keep dodging its attacks. But just as he started to feel safe, a water arrow suddenly shot toward him!

Clayton panicked and tried to evade it, but the attack was too fast—it grazed him. Fortunately, his magic armor held up well and he wasn't injured. Still, the impact threw off his balance, and he nearly fell from the sky.

From the corner of his eye, he saw the creature readying another shot. If he didn't act fast, he'd be knocked out of the sky for real.

He quickly fired a water cannon at the beast.

Bang!

Still airborne, the creature had no time to dodge. Clayton's attack hit directly. It wasn't strong enough to injure it, but at least it disrupted the water arrow.

Clayton let out a breath of relief and quickly stabilized himself to flee.

Splash!

The crocodile-nosed fish crashed back into the sea.

Clayton grew even more cautious—now that it was back in its natural habitat, it would be even more dangerous.

Swoosh!

It leapt from the water again, jaws wide open!

Clayton hastily pulled a magic scroll from his pouch.

Swoosh!

Thick black smoke surged toward the creature.

The beast was hit and briefly stunned—its eyes turned blank. Clayton grinned. It worked!

He launched another water cannon to capitalize on the opening, but before it landed, a glowing halo appeared around the fish. A solid barrier formed, and its eyes snapped back into focus.

Bang!

The water cannon slammed into the shield, but the fish remained completely unharmed.

Frustrated, Clayton had no choice but to flee. The beast dove back into the water, preparing to strike again.

Watching its movements, Clayton felt the tension—and fear—rising.

Swoosh!

The creature leapt again, mouth open wide, ready to swallow him whole.

Clayton hastily used another pollution scroll. The same effect occurred—the fish was stunned, but moments later, the halo returned, snapping it back to consciousness.

He repeated the pattern—pollution scroll, then attack—but the creature's scales were simply too tough. It was like firing toy guns at armor.

The beast recovered again, now dangerously close. Clayton didn't have time for another spell.

Luckily, the shore was near. Relief flooded through him—he was almost safe, and his chances of escape were rising fast.

But suddenly, the fish twisted mid-air and whipped its tail at him like a massive club.

Clayton cursed aloud.

"Damn it! I was this close! Why is this fish so damn stubborn?!"

He quickly activated his Water Dome spell.

Boom!

The dome clashed with the creature's tail, sending Clayton hurtling in a different direction.

But instead of being upset, he smiled—the force of the impact had thrown him exactly where he needed to go, and he wasn't injured.

As he flew through the air, he glared at the monster.

"You're lucky I'm in a hurry! If I ever get the chance, I swear I'll fry you up to vent all this frustration!"

Swoosh!

Clayton shot forward and finally crash-landed near the beach.

Boom!

"Cough… cough…"

He choked as water rushed up his nose, then staggered away from the shore. His body was spent, and he stumbled with every step.

Once he was truly safe, Clayton collapsed onto the ground.

Boom!

Another explosion rang out. Clayton looked up and saw the fish had reached the waters near the shore—it was launching water arrows.

But due to the distance and uneven terrain, the attacks couldn't reach him. Clayton sighed in relief. His efforts hadn't been in vain.

He could've stopped earlier near the beach, but he'd judged it too risky and forced his exhausted body further inland. That decision had saved him. The fish continued trying to attack, but eventually gave up and disappeared.

Only then did Clayton allow himself to rest. He summoned his skeletons to stand guard and began tending to his wounds.

It took a while before he felt even remotely better. By then, the sun was already dipping low. Not wanting to get caught in the dark, he pushed himself to continue toward the trial gate.

He walked cautiously, flanked by his mini skeletons. This time, he didn't care much about gathering materials—his top priority was simply to arrive on time.

In his rush, he nearly got lost. Luckily, he remembered parts of the route from the memories he had absorbed from that ragged group.

After walking for quite some time, he spotted a crowd in the distance. Excitement surged within him. He approached carefully, mindful not to startle anyone.

Even with his cautious steps, a few people glanced his way. Clayton didn't mind—his careful approach wasn't to avoid notice but to show he wasn't looking for trouble.

Once he arrived, he realized everyone was staring intently in one direction. Curiosity took over. He followed their gaze, and just as his eyes were about to catch what had everyone so captivated—he froze.

His heart skipped a beat.

Standing in the crowd was a figure he knew all too well. Their eyes met instantly.

It was none other than—Rodent.

Clayton held his breath. Inwardly, he asked himself,

"What the hell is he doing here?"
