Wizard Lord:I can Extract Anything

Chapter 391: Chapter 391: Out-of-Control Weapons

Bang! The dark gold staff head whistled through the air like a descending tiger, smashing the last floating cannon that glowed with a sinister red light.

As the crystal fragments scattered across the ground, Richard retracted his staff, his brow furrowed as he gazed into the distance with a deep expression.

Crystal Floating Cannons—weapons of the Precursors mentioned by a Third Circle Wizard during the pre-battle meeting. Despite being no larger than an infant's head, their attacks packed a staggering three thousand energy levels. They were incredibly agile, and when necessary, they could self-destruct, unleashing an explosion of up to eight thousand energy levels.

Even a seasoned Third Circle Wizard would struggle when facing multiple floating cannons.

And in this ancient battlefield, this was already the third time Richard had encountered these things. Yet, only half a day had passed since he left the Crystal Spire.

"After all these years, these weapons still possess such abundant energy reserves. Truly unbelievable."

With a casual wave of his hand, an invisible current of air swept up the fragments of the floating cannon and brought them to his side. Though shattered, the materials still held some value.

If he could capture an intact floating cannon in the future and obtain its manufacturing technology, these crystal fragments might still serve as usable raw materials.

Continuing toward the distant shadow, Richard remained vigilant, constantly scanning his surroundings.

This desert was not naturally formed. Countless terrifying weapons had clashed on this land during the great war years ago. This desert was likely the handiwork of those weapon remnants.

Suddenly, Richard came to a halt.

About a kilometer ahead of him, a pitch-black crystal construct lay dormant in the sea of sand.

By all logic, this should have been just another weapon remnant left behind from the war. But Richard cautiously activated his Energy Vision.

In this battlefield, he refused to underestimate anything.

Once Energy Vision was active, the environment around Richard instantly transformed.

In the air, intense energy radiation stretched like beams of light, nearly overwhelming his entire field of view.

"Damn it, Energy Vision is useless here."

Staring at the endless streams of energy light filling his vision, Richard had no choice but to deactivate his Energy Vision.

As the saying goes, one only regrets not studying harder when knowledge is needed. Soul talents could be trained, after all.

If a Soul Wizard were here, they could easily adjust their vision, dimming certain energy light paths to use the ability normally.

But Richard rarely used this soul talent in daily life, so training was naturally out of the question.

Now, faced with such an extreme situation, he could only swallow this bitter pill in silence.

Still, even if Energy Vision was unusable, Richard had other methods.

He pulled out several metal ingots from his pocket and, using Alchemy, crafted a series of components. Assembled together, they formed a six-legged Metal Spider.

Next, he took out a few pieces of Living Flesh and some biological materials, molding them into a low-grade Synthetic Beast core. Using this core as a foundation, Richard quickly fashioned a fist-sized, fleshy Synthetic Beast.

This Synthetic Beast had no function beyond being alive.

But that was enough.

Richard placed the Synthetic Beast into the central compartment of the Metal Spider, then used his mental energy to control the arachnid construct as it moved into the distance.

When the Metal Spider entered a 400-meter radius of the crystalline construct, the object suddenly lit up. A beam of light shot forth, striking the fleshy Synthetic Beast in the spider's central chamber with pinpoint accuracy.

Richard narrowed his eyes. The crystalline construct he had been testing had now risen from the desert sands.

It was a pitch-black Arachnid Automaton, its obsidian-crystal body riddled with scars. Along the left edge of its body were two wounds resembling severed legs. At its front, a multifaceted structure resembling a Crystal Ball emitted a dark crimson glow—the same source that had fired the lethal beam moments ago.

"Opening fire immediately upon contact... It seems the Precursors must have programmed these weapons with a 'shoot on sight' directive," Richard murmured to himself, his grip tightening around the World Tree Staff.

Without Ulysses' assistance or the refuge of a Secret Realm, all he had left were the knowledge and combat prowess he had accumulated over the years.

The unique conditions of this ancient battlefield had stripped him of all external aids. Now, he had to rely solely on his own strength to resolve the situation before him.

Hum! The multifaceted crystal of the Arachnid Automaton emitted an energy pulse, and in the next instant, its body pivoted before charging toward Richard at high speed.

Unfazed, Richard gave a light flick of his staff, and a Spell radiance settled beneath the automaton's feet.

In the next moment, ordinary sand transformed into quicksand.

Missing two legs, the Arachnid Automaton's remaining six inevitably sank momentarily into the shifting sands. Though the delay lasted only a split second, for a Wizard, that was more than enough.

Dark fireballs materialized around Richard one after another—these were no ordinary Fireball spells, but his modified Heart of Annihilation.

Richard held a special regard for this, the first Spell he had ever created. Over the years, while refining the Spell Model of the Fireball spell, he had also continuously optimized the Heart of Annihilation's framework.

Through his improvements, the Heart of Annihilation now boasted a destructive force of 5,000 energy units—its sole drawback being its exorbitant energy consumption.

Even after optimizing it with the Pioneer One Rune, its cost remained five times that of a standard Fireball spell.

With another wave of his staff, five Hearts of Annihilation arced through the air, homing in on the side of the Arachnid Automaton where its legs were missing.

Sensing the approaching fireballs, the automaton's body instantly manifested a faintly glowing web-like structure, its interstices filled with hexagonal Energy Shields.

The collision between the Hearts of Annihilation and the Energy Shields instantly disrupted the delicate balance of fire and water elements within the Spells.

A black sphere abruptly expanded from within the fireball, swallowing half of the Arachnid Automaton's body in an instant.

Richard watched calmly as the remaining four fireballs continued their trajectory.

Suddenly, a beam of light pierced through the black sphere, striking one of the Hearts of Annihilation and triggering its premature detonation.

Then, multiple beams shot out from within the black mass, intercepting all the remaining Hearts of Annihilation.

One after another, the black spheres exploded mid-air, forming what was nearly a curtain of darkness, obscuring the scene behind it.

Soon, the darkness dissipated.

The Arachnid Automaton stood unharmed in place, seemingly unaffected by Richard's spells.

Richard's expression remained unchanged as he swung his staff, sending several streaks of white-purple lightning from its tip, yet they were all blocked by the automaton's Energy Shield.

Immediately after, Ice Mist, Fireball spell, Earth Spike, Storm... Elemental Spells were unleashed toward the Arachnid Automaton as if they cost nothing.

Strangely, however, the power of these spells was remarkably weak, some even registering only around 1,500 to 1,600 energy levels. Without the staff's enhancement, their original power would have been a mere 100 to 200, or even just a few dozen energy levels.

The Arachnid Automaton stood its ground, silently deflecting all these chaotic Elemental Spells with its Energy Shield.

In the next moment, an intense surge of energy erupted from the Arachnid Automaton, its entire body darting toward Richard like lightning. The speed was so fast that Richard couldn't even intercept it with spells.

At the critical moment, Richard swung his staff, summoning an earthen wall hundreds of meters ahead. The next instant, the automaton pierced through Richard's afterimage.

Richard's figure abruptly appeared within the shadow cast by the earthen wall.

"Incredible speed," Richard muttered to himself.

The Arachnid Automaton had now transformed. The polyhedral crystal used for energy attacks had retracted into its body, while two slender Mantis Blades extended from its front. Its remaining six legs now bore serrated edges, crackling with energy arcs.

"Chainsaw Sword?"

Looking at the automaton's legs, Richard instantly recalled the Sacred Guard's anti-magic Chainsaw Swords.

But before Richard could examine it closely, the Arachnid Automaton flashed and appeared right beside him—it was capable of short-range spatial teleportation.

The automaton's serrated limbs tore through Richard's Magic Barrier as if slicing through butter, while the two Mantis Blades at its front straightened instantly, thrusting straight toward Richard's abdomen.

Zzzzt...

A series of metallic screeches, like metal being cut, rang out.

The two Mantis Blades, which should have gutted Richard, were instead blocked by a layer of golden light. Beneath that radiance, a layer of platinum dragon scales had somehow appeared.

"Keh keh keh, got you fooled."

Richard cackled as he swung his staff. In an instant, six crisp snaps merged into one—the Arachnid Automaton's six limbs were shattered by his staff.

In the Wizard World, high-level Alchemy Golems were embedded with numerous combat protocols. These strategies, often devised by Wizards based on years of experience and the golem's capabilities, represented the optimal response to specific combat scenarios. Once conditions matched a particular protocol, the golem would automatically execute it.

As a civilization more advanced than Wizard society, the Precursors' war automatons undoubtedly possessed similar systems. Richard's earlier barrage of weak Elemental Spells had been a ruse to trick the Arachnid Automaton into categorizing him as a fragile spellcaster.

Now, with the automaton charging recklessly and its limbs transformed into anti-magic configurations, it was clear that its built-in anti-spellcaster combat protocol had been activated.

After breaking off the limbs, Rune Chains began to emerge from Richard's body, attempting to seal the Arachnid Automaton.

But before the Rune Chains could form an icy shell, Richard suddenly furrowed his brow.

With a wave of his staff, a Magic Power hand instantly hurled the Arachnid Automaton's body away.

The next moment, a deafening boom echoed as the Arachnid Automaton exploded midair, creating a fleeting miniature sun.

"Another self-destruct mode. Are these Precursors bomb-makers or what? Installing self-destruct on every weapon," Richard grumbled irritably.

But since it had already happened, he didn't dwell on his frustration after venting.

Storing the six severed limbs into his Magic Pocket, he continued chasing after the shadowy figure.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the battlefield, Ulysses—engulfed in black flames—spat out a burst of fire, melting an intact Arachnid Automaton.

Suddenly, Ulysses turned his gaze toward the direction of the explosion.

His voice light, he murmured to himself, "He's really heading this way. Seems I guessed right."

With that, Ulysses swiftly flew toward the shadow's location.
