Chapter 387: Chapter 387: Subduing the Serpent King
"Enter the Secret Realm?"
The Serpent King thought this creature called the Wizard was somewhat ignorant of his own limitations.
That Purple-skinned Toad, as a creation of The Supreme, had its venom meticulously concocted by The Supreme himself. And that Toad King had even surpassed mortal limits—its toxins had already corrupted the very fabric of rules.
Below the level of a World Master, forget about curing it—even enduring the poison without dying, as he had done, was already the pinnacle of strength.
And now this Wizard wanted him to enter that Secret Realm? Could there possibly be a World Master within it? "Wizard, do you mean to say there's a World Master in your Secret Realm?" The Serpent King asked, his tone laced with mockery.
Richard showed no irritation, merely smiling as he replied, "You'll know once you enter."
The Serpent King studied Richard. There seemed to be an inexplicable confidence about this creature.
This confidence wasn't born of ignorance or blind arrogance. Rather, it was a self-assurance rooted in genuine strength.
This Wizard truly believed he could cure the poison.
"Wizard, leaving aside whether I believe you can cure this poison or not—we've only just met. How can I trust entering your Secret Realm?"
The Serpent King flicked his tongue, absorbing all the pheromones in the air.
From the pheromones, this creature called the Wizard showed no signs of tension.
"That's simple."
Richard pulled out a Soul Contract from his pocket.
"I have a Soul Contract here. Sign it, and there'll be no issue."
"Oh?"
The Serpent King's gaze fell upon the contract in Richard's hand. On this scroll of unknown material, he sensed a mysterious power.
A replica of the Fate Contract?
Richard finished writing the contract and sent it over to the Serpent King with a Hand of Magic.
The contents were written in Dragon Language, which the Serpent King could understand.
After reading it, the Serpent King licked the scroll with his tongue.
Like that toad, he too had surpassed mortal limits and possessed unique abilities.
Through his tongue's perception, the Serpent King confirmed the contract's effect.
Once signed, a curse would descend upon both parties. If either violated the terms, the curse would activate.
"Fine." The Serpent King slithered down from the withered tree. "For the sake of our shared ancestry, I'll trust you once.
If you can cure this poison, I'll help you kill that toad."
With that, the Serpent King left his name on the contract.
The contract dissolved into flames and vanished into the air. Richard smiled confidently. "A deal it is."
With that, Richard opened a Mystic Realm Rift and gestured for the Serpent King to enter. But the Serpent King didn't step in immediately—instead, his gaze shifted to Hogg beside him.
"I cannot walk ahead of the son of the Dragon King. It's etiquette among dragons."
Hogg gave an indifferent nod before lazily commanding, "Return."
At the same time, Richard nodded slightly as well.
The Fire Lizard Warriors carrying the Dragon Carriage promptly turned and re-entered the Secret Realm.
Richard gestured again to the Serpent King.
"After you, Lord Serpent King."
The Serpent King studied Richard intently before finally speaking slowly, "You and the Dragon King's son aren't collaborators, are you?"
Richard's expression remained unchanged, his face still wearing that same smiling mask.
"The word 'cooperation' sounds a bit distant, but it does describe our relationship accurately."
"Is that so?" The Serpent King flicked its tongue, skepticism evident in its voice.
"Of course."
Through pheromones, the Serpent King confirmed Richard wasn't lying and nodded thoughtfully. After bowing slightly to Richard, it gracefully slithered into the Secret Realm.
But its grace was short-lived.
"What the hell is this?!"
The moment it entered, the Serpent King sensed something was wrong. It could feel everything in this realm being manipulated by an invisible hand. It didn't feel like entering a Secret Realm—more like stepping into the belly of some colossal beast.
When its eyes focused on the distant object, it let out a piercing shriek. It was hard to imagine a snake could produce such a shrill sound.
"What's wrong, Your Majesty?" Richard followed the Serpent King into the realm and couldn't help but laugh at its reaction.
"What is that thing? The World Tree?" The Serpent King pointed its tail at the distant World Mushroom and shouted.
"How could there be such an enormous mushroom in your Secret Realm?"
"Not the World Tree—the World Mushroom," Richard corrected solemnly. "Call it by the wrong name, and it might get rough with you during treatment."
"Treatment?"
The Serpent King gaped at the World Mushroom, never dreaming Richard actually harbored a World Master in his realm.
A mycelial tentacle emerged from the ground, quickly forming into a milky-white humanoid figure.
"Master, I'm not that petty."
Hearing the World Mushroom's address, the Serpent King's vertical pupils dilated, its eyes nearly bulging out of its head.
"Master? You're its master? No wonder! No wonder!" It stared at Richard as if suddenly enlightened. "No wonder the Dragon King sent one of his descendants to marry you. You must be some kind of—"
"Stop!"
Richard immediately cut off the Serpent King's wild speculation.
"Who told you Hogg and I are in a political marriage? At least make a plausible guess."
The Serpent King blinked, indignant. "How is this not plausible? Look—this esteemed one lives in your Secret Realm, uses your servants. And she said dragons and Wizards cooperate. But dragons don't just cooperate with anyone unless they've been beaten into submission first. So I figured the dragons must have lost a war, chose to cooperate with Wizards, and cemented the alliance with a royal marriage. Isn't that logical?"
Richard didn't know whether to laugh or cry at this explanation. He waved his hand, and Hogg flew down from the Dragon Carriage to stand beside him.
"You got the process right but the conclusion wrong." Richard patted Hogg's head, his smile turning chilling. "The dragons and Wizards did fight a war. But the outcome was the dragons' defeat—a crushing one. The current relationship between dragons and Wizards is that of pets and owners, slaves and masters. Though admittedly, that too is a form of cooperation."
"..."
Silence filled the air.
The Serpent King never imagined that its kin, fellow servants of The Supreme...
Not a single word, line, or content is present in the 69 Book Bar!
These pure-blooded dragons were actually defeated by other races, reduced to slaves and pets of other clans.
After a long silence, the Serpent King finally spoke: "You shouldn't have told me this."
Richard shook his head slightly: "There's no need for secrecy, because this world has already been discovered by Wizards.
Before long, this world will become the territory of the Great Wizard.
By then, you'll still learn all this.
But when that time comes, the Wizards won't negotiate with you like this.
What awaits you will only be submission or death."
The Serpent King flicked its tongue, its pheromones confirming that this creature still wasn't lying.
"You're recruiting me."
The Serpent King finally discerned Richard's intention.
Richard snapped his fingers: "Correct. As a being who has broken through mortal limits, don't you want to advance further?
Or would you rather spend your entire life confined to this world? Gazing at the stars from these poisonous marshes every day, yet never truly seeing them.
Under the Great Wizard's banner, you'd just be a slave, a magic pet, or even an experiment.
But with me, you'll be a subordinate. We'll be bound by contract, each getting what we need."
Faced with Richard's recruitment, the Serpent King fell silent.
Richard didn't press. He believed the Serpent King would make the right decision.
This Serpent King, who had broken mortal limits but hadn't yet made the final leap, was something Richard urgently wanted to study.
This Serpent King held far more research value than that Flame Behemoth mutated by blue fire.
This was a purely flesh-and-blood creature.
"First, heal my wounds."
After a long silence, the Serpent King suddenly spoke.
"You must heal me before we discuss recruitment."
A faint, amiable smile appeared on Richard's face. He knew the Serpent King had already accepted the offer.
"Indeed, let's heal your wounds first."
With a wave of Richard's hand, the Mycelium avatar of the World Mushroom led the Serpent King toward the main body of the World Mushroom.
Ulysses chose to follow as well.
Among Divine Arts, there were many that could remove toxins.
Beneath the World Mushroom, the Serpent King watched quietly as the mushroom's mycelium threads burrowed into its body.
Under the corrosion of the deadly poison, the invading mycelium quickly began to decay.
"This poison isn't ordinary, is it?" the Serpent King remarked with a hint of humor.
"Indeed, it's extraordinary. And you're deeply poisoned—it won't be easy to fully cleanse the toxins."
The World Mushroom's avatar delivered its diagnosis, then glanced at Ulysses nearby.
"Old crow, can your Divine Arts handle this?"
Ulysses landed on the Serpent King, lightly dipping a feather into the poisoned blood.
The moment the feather made contact, it began to sizzle and smoke. Moreover, the deadly poison crept along the feather, attempting to invade Ulysses' body.
Holy light flared around Ulysses, and a beam of radiance fell upon the poisoned blood on his feather.
But the blood merely faded slightly, not transforming into normal blood or clear water as he had expected.
Ulysses exclaimed in awe: "Such formidable Deadly Poison Rule."
"Can you heal it?"
"I can, but you'll need to assist. This serpent is too deeply poisoned—using Divine Arts to detoxify might turn its blood and flesh directly into water.
You'll need to support it with vitality nearby..."
"That's no problem."
After this brief exchange, the Holy light around Ulysses suddenly intensified, and Divine Arts rained down upon the Serpent King like machine-gun fire.
Meanwhile, the World Mushroom channeled an immense amount of life force into the Serpent King's body, stabilizing his teetering vitality.
As the Divine Arts continued to cleanse him, the deadly poison within the Serpent King was gradually purged.
Clear water flowed out from his wound.
Finally, as the sixty-sixth Divine Art was cast, the Serpent King's body suddenly erupted with astonishing life energy.
Freed from the suppression of the poison, the life force he had used to resist it burst forth in full force.
Under the influence of this surge, his wound healed completely in an instant.
Contrary to expectations, the Serpent King did not possess a Deadly Poison Rule akin to a toad's, but rather the Life Rule—somewhat at odds with his identity as a venomous serpent.
"Thank you for the healing."
Once restored, the Serpent King lowered his head in gratitude toward the World Mushroom and Ulysses, his spirit renewed.
Then, he slithered over to Richard and spoke respectfully, "Great one known as the Wizard, I wish to join your ranks and witness the vast expanse of the starry skies."
